I was worried about the CW, now I’m also worried about CBS.
https://t.co/OmrgzonMd3
Speaking of Walker, now in its fourth season, it is the most watched series on the CW, headlined by one of the network’s biggest stars of the past two decades, Jared Padalecki. Like All American, the series also didn’t undergo major cuts last summer as the drama, filmed in Texas, already had been produced pretty efficiently. But I hear its license fee is so low, just over the $500K per episode threshold, that it may not make sense for CBS Studios to continue to deliver the show to the CW at that price even if the network wants it.
According to sources, it is very hard for U.S. studios to produce drama series for the current size of the CW license fees without going the international co-production route. Doing it in the U.S., even in states with tax incentives, is virtually impossible without major production compromises, like cutting further the number of filming days, significantly limiting shooting locations and opting against big lighting packages, which would make for inferior product that would be hard to sell internationally.
There's another piece of news about All American, in that it was given two more episodes this season to help wrap-up certain storylines that will allow them to switch out cast members and reduce costs, if needed, for the next season.
Now, before everyone runs to the doom and gloom, notice that this information is speculation at this point, i.e., "may not make sense." CBS may ask for a higher licensing fee and the CW may be willing to pay it if Walker is the type of show they want for their brand moving forward.
But also, it appears, based on the episode titles for 4.12 and 4.13, along with the general theme of this season (The Quiet), that it's possible Walker is setting things up to reduce their cast if they get renewed for a Season 5. It would be easy to ship August off to the military and reduce Stella's appearances to recurring instead of regular. As the article points out, Walker is the most watched series on the CW right now, which could help CBS negotiate a higher licensing fee while the production team works to reduce their overall costs.
I'm not going to go all doom and gloom right now, this is all just speculation based on what appears to be one person's understanding of the industry. Could they be right? Sure. But I'm not going to worry about it until there's an official announcement. What I am going to do is continue to watch Live and on the CW app within the next week.

BUFFY SUMMERS IN BECOMING PART II
open your eyes, mom. what do you think has been going on for the past two years? the fights, the weird occurrences… how many times have you washed blood out of my clothing, and you still haven't figured it out? well, it stops now! no, it doesn't stop! it never stops! do— do you think i chose to be like this? do you have any idea how lonely it is, how dangerous? i would love to be upstairs watching tv or gossiping about boys or... god, even studying! but i have to save the world, again!

Having a hard time making edits this week due to my Mac not wanting to talk to my keyboard & mouse. This looks like a bug related to security updates to the drivers, so I'm hopeful Apple will fix it soon. Maybe even before I give in and take my Mac to the Genius bar.
I did get the update to the update installed, but it seems to be only partly helping. LMK if you discover any good workarounds in the meantime!

TBH I don't understand Amazon's strategy. They've made world-building spectacles with massive casts, probably because everyone wants their own Game of Thrones, but. Wouldn't it also be profitable, and much cheaper, to make their own The Office or CSI or Modern Family?
https://www.justjared.com/2024/03/13/the-most-expensive-tv-shows-of-all-time-game-of-thrones-isnt-even-in-the-top-5/
Top 2 most expensive shows were amazon… not sure how that bodes for a small, not well established production company like CMP getting anything made… obviously Amazon has zero problem spending money on things that don’t have a positive roi but it seems to mostly focus is money throwing at larger properties.
It's possible Amazon funds smaller projects, but since Amazon's at the bottom of the list of watched streamers, people may not hear about them. As for CMP, we're nearing a year on from their deal and no projects have been announced. So, the Ackles got a year's worth of free money for doing nothing. Not a bad deal!

I can't believe of all the magic gimmick episodes to make a mess of that BTVS managed to fuck up a time loop. A Buffy time loop episode should be the stuff of legend up there with The No Talky One and The Singy One but no. Life Serial time loop I'm sorry but you're nothing to me. Buffyverse magic is always vaguely defined and the rules change by the episode but the time loop spell Jonathan put on Buffy is so underexplained and overpowered that it severely takes me out of the scene
No one else in the shop but Buffy is aware that they're looping or time passing so is the spell just sending Buffy back in time and no one else? But then how can the Trio watch what's going on with the Magic Box cameras in real time with Buffy/the audience. Are they also looping? Does Jonathan's spell reset time for literally everyone except the three of them and Buffy? Because that means Jonathan, by means of magic bone, is repeatedly sending the entire world back a few minutes, keeping the memories of him, the other casters, and the target intact, until a completely arbitrary task decided by Jonathan is accomplished by Buffy.
Does that mean the awkward customer was part of the spell? Because satisfying an annoying customer was the task Jonathan set out for Buffy, did he just know that lady would be difficult? Did they just wait until a difficult customer showed up and bother Buffy to start the loop? What if none did? Is she a physical illusion or a magic homunculus being difficult under Jonathan's direction? Is she a real person playing out his script under mine control? Because unless it's the contrived coincidence option that's a lot of continuous magic to keep up while also maintaining the time loop, all with what seemed like a damn easy spell.
Why don't we know that spell? Casters' and target's memories unaffected, why didn't the gang cast it on Buffy before The Gift and make the loop breaking condition being defeating Glory without any Scoobies dying? We fail, oh well, try again. We know it doesn't need to be fixed on a room bc it covered the Magic Box and the Nerdmobile (even though trying to leave the shop just reset the loop for Buffy bc this spell just does fucking everything I guess). We know any damage done gets reset bc Buffy broke Giles' glasses and the doorbell and they were fine after a loop so no worries about racking up injuries or wasting the Dagon Sphere. And sure if Jonathan can do it, he of the only reasonably impressive abilities, then experienced Giles or Tara or especially Willow should have no problem whatsoever. And all this for one scene.
Life Serial time loop spell you are my enemy.

Knowing what we now know about how petty JW can be, I always wonder if he got SMG blacklisted by his producer friends over whatever BTW quarrels they'd had. Not only is she legit a good actor, she had buzz: A Maybelline campaign, interviews with everyobe from Howard Stern to Parade magazine, and roles in successful films like Cruel Intentions and The Grudge (which, yes, came out around the time BtVS ended, but that doesn't mean Joss wasn't already spreading rumors or w/e to undercut her). I knew who she was when the show was in its first airing, even though I hadn't watched it yet.
I know that most actors, even ones with a few successful projects behind them, will go through quiet spells. That doesn't require a conspiracy; there just aren't enough well-made, well-promoted shows/movies to for them to star in.
HOWEVER, she was, by most standards, well-positioned to keep going, and then... she slipped out of the public's awareness. She continued to do good work in indie and experimental films, but the big stuff dried up fast. Were Ringer and Happily Never After (ow whatever it was calked) really the best jobs she could get?
