It was 1978 and I was 5 years old, I remember it clearly because this was the year LEGO released The LEGO Space Command Centre, 493.
This is one of my earliest memories of building a LEGO set.
45 years later and sets from that pivotal point for the LEGO company are now referred to as Classic Space.
The Command Centre boasted many unique and innovative lego bricks for its time, many of which made their way through to many current sets today.
The colours and styling was also unique, with its striking Azure tone and contrasting brightly coloured Spacemen, later to be immortalised as Benny in The LEGO Movie.
The packaging was unique to the time also, as I vividly recall the bold font and flip-top box.
The Command Centre set featured a unique and much beloved grey baseplate, with a fantastic moon surface and crater mould to complement the
Build.
This was one of many LEGO builds that started me on my awesome journey.
