I really don’t know how to explain to you that activism, community outreach, meeting important goals in the realm of social justice, and just generally living life is much easier under the presidency of an average democrat than a republican who was so outspokenly racist, genocidal, inflammatory, misogynistic, and violent that he may have permanently skewed the american right to the furthest extreme possible. I don’t know how to explain to you that the candidate who was so extreme that he brought neo-nazis into the mainstream political landscape needs to be kept out of any political office at any cost. even if it means voting for a center-left democrat who won’t personally sign off on your glorious revolution.

I brought this unused Loki concept to life!!
I’d been eyeing this stunning design by @aleksibriclot for years, and a little while ago (after two years of working on it) I finally finished it! It has all the dark norse fantasy vibes that I wanted Ragnarok to be, and I figured hey, I can make it myself!
I had to up a lot of my leatherworking skills for this one, and I dove into a lot of new skills as well to try to make all the pieces a cohesive whole. It uses lambskin leather, suede cowhide, and veg tan, as well as an entire sheepskin for the cape!
This whole costume has truly been a labour of Loki love and I’m so glad I was able to share all the madness (process) and the finished look!

Issues I've Seen In Recent Books I've Read (Part 1)
In no particular order:
Contrived explanations for things both characters would know. I was reading a book recently where a character who worked for the CIA asked another character for the CIA if the CIA used to torture people, which then briefly turned into an explainer about the CIA's history of torture and why it was bad. The issue here is that the fact that the CIA used to torture people is common knowledge (presumably especially for people who work there), and it just feels like a hamfisted way of explaining it to the reader.
Every character having the same reaction to the same thing. In that same book series, every time any character came out to anyone (and this was a gay book series, so it happened a lot), the character who they came out to said some version of, almost verbatim, "Thank you for entrusting me with that." Not every character is going to have the same literal reaction to something, and this is a great way to show characterization--how does this character react, rather than how does every character react?
Characters accepting things too quickly. Sexual awakenings took five minutes and single therapy sessions were enough to entirely rewrite characters' mindsets on core issues of their identity and how they're living their lives, which is a quick and handy way of speeding things up in writing but begins to strain credulity for the reader pretty quickly.
Forgotten injuries until they become necessary. In a different series, I see a common issue that authors have when they write an injured character: they ignore the injury unless it's plot relevant. An aggressive and traumatizing injury to an arm wasn't mentioned for long swaths of time, including whether it hurt--until a different character would see it. It was mentioned that it was getting infected--but nothing ever came of that. Injuries are often treated as ignorable unless Something Happens, while in real life they tend to be noticeable more continuously.

i watched beyond re-animator for the first time tonight, it was... okay i guess, no wonder they called it bad. but of course since i watched it on a pc, that unfortunately meant i had to screenshot 24/7 throughout the entire movie... tragic.
u can use with credit.

Okay, we're gonna take a minute to just talk about, and appreciate, the DRD design on Farscape.
Look at them:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
They are Friend Shaped. They are disarming. They are useful and helpful. They have so much personality (especially 1812, I'd die for him), and they're essentially something that allows Moya and the crew to interact directly.
One of them is also the first thing Crichton (and kinda the audience) see of Moya. They say "Yeah, the show is gonna be weird, but not always. Look at these Little Guys, they're here to help and be cute." They show that in the insane, complex, scary world of Farscape, there's time for things to just Be Cute.
Thanks for coming to my TED Talk.

Like it's nice when an actor has Good Opinions but I don't. Think it's actually of earth-shattering importance. I don't think we have to wait breathlessly to learn what every actor thinks about everything. If they're in a position to do something sure but I'm not sure why "pressure supporting cast members on a TV show I like to Make A Statement" is a high priority especially when the stakes aren't "make them do something with their platform" but "make it so it's okay for me to keep watching this TV show I like"
