I need to draw more full bodies to get better at it and draw more action poses to start showing movement and life rather than stiff little weird doll poses sooooooooo
More of Zaelis's new armor design, but also with his mask and daggers.
The perspective and anatomy feels wonky af to me but practice means getting better so need to do more of these studies.
I am in the process of trying to draw out armor designs for Zaelis and this is the first one I am really liking a lot. So here it is, at least the top half of it. With this done I can finally start drawing him with clothing on!
Now I need to design his priestly robes for when he's being a terrifying charismatic cult leader at the head of the Bhaal Temple's loyal congregation.
And finish designing what his main mask looks like. And his entire mask collection.
i feel like redeemed durge romances hit so hard because of that aspect where it's like.
you've seen what i truly am. what i'm capable of. you've seen the monster that my flesh was moulded around. there is a rot inside me that consumes me day in and day out, and it hungers for blood and death and ash and meat. i fear it just as much as everyone else.
and yet your words, your touch, your every movement around me are all so gentle. nothing but love in every glance. when i am in your arms, my mind goes quiet. you tell me that we will make it through this together, and for the first time, i believe it.
Decided to try drawing up a portrait of my BG1 & BG2 main, a conflicted Paladin struggling against his Bhaalspawn nature. I really am not used to doing flesh tones which look alive and need some major practice with that. And different hair colors.
I was planning on designing Zaelis's Bhaalist priest outfit but ended up doing this instead. Whoops.
Gortash (furious): Why have you betrayed me? Why have you destroyed everything we worked so hard on together?
Dark Urge (calmly): When Orin betrayed me, where were you? When I was being made and unmade in Moonrise, when Ketheric and Balthazar laughed at my demise, when Orin gloated and Kressa Bonedaughter told anyone who would listen about her new pet... when I was being destroyed... where were you?
We talk a lot about how Gortash was Durge’s undoing, and then of course how Durge undid their plans, but here’s another mirror for you…
Durge, walking into Wyrm’s rock, and being hit with such overwhelming force of knowing and not understanding why. In the center of it all is the man who speaks like he’s traced the edges of their being, and all they want is to come home. Foolishly, deliriously, they step forward into his arms, “Enver?”
And Gortash buckles. He can’t help but break, embracing them, cradling their head, fighting back the strain in his throat and the tears welling in his eyes. They live they live they live.
The tadpoled patriars are no concern, and the ones that aren’t will be dead soon anyway. But the Banites.
The Banites see it all. See the wall of their god’s chosen crumble at nothing. They had been faithful - putting their trust in Lord Gortash even when his plans seemingly began to unwind. But now this? This blatant show of weakness? Did he truly speak for the Black Lord?
The change is subtle, but unmistakable. A moment’s hesitation before carrying out a command. A gentle question from a priest. The remnants of whispers in a room when Gortash enters.
Anxiety bubbles in his chest as Gortash clenches a fist around his command - but as he tightens he only chokes himself.
"For what it's worth, I think I always liked you too."
What the hell is going on in Durges mind at that moment? They very much still can't remember anything. All they know are things they've been told, all that happened those last few weeks is nothing but a foggy memory already. But they still think they liked him. Something in them remembers the fondness for Gortash. For their ally, their equal. Their one true companion. The very man who stood beside them for years.
They can hardly even recall their own name, but the name of the tyrant still rings familiar. And their feelings still speak of fondness, in spite of it all, in spite of not even knowing themselves, that's one of the few truths they can identify.
Taking a break from my big project, in honor of the new patch, drew Zaelis again.
Honestly I think I've hit a wall on improvement by just experimentation and sheer practice hours. It's probably well past time to take a look at some videos of other artists explaining how they do stuff. ^^;
As soon as I can get a damn dice skin mod to work again on this new patch (it now crashes almost every time I have to roll, ugh), I may take some vids of the new Durge and Gortash content. Hopefully this gets me writing again.
