🍂 Navigating the Winds of Change 🍂 . There’s a lot I wish to share with you guys out of the sheer reason alone, that soon enough the time will no longer be right, + to be honest with you, I’d rather you hear it from me, personally than a friend of a friend. I’m going to be updating you guys on a few life altering, seismic shifts that have happened over the last few months + I’ll be sharing them over the course of 3 Fall Equinox Self-Portraits because after all, this is how I best express myself. Let’s get on with it then. Update #003: 🚌🏔🗺 Because of the update mentioned in the first image from this series (visit @the.wolf.wandress to refresh yourself), I have found that the phrase “when God closes a door, he opens 3 more” is not only accurate af, it’s also extremely relevant for me in this time. Earlier this month after our decision, I was offered a job as Creative Assistant, as well as finding an amazing apartment in the mountains of Manitou Springs, Colorado, where I will be moving in less than a week (from writing this). This entire time of packing and getting ready to move has been a real hustle, but having the view of the Garden of the Gods out my new bedroom window is a great motivator. I have the best brother in the world and he will be making the 3-4 day drive with me to help me move while my back continues to mend. I’m a whirlwind of emotion throughout this process. I’m learning a lot about what I’m built of, and I have to be real with you- sometimes it takes moments like this to come along and remind you of your ability to adapt and survive another day. Maybe we don’t like to be reminded of that, but it’s necessary for growth. It can’t be avoided. I feel as though everything has moved so fast this year, my head is left spinning, but I’m still standing. My warrior spirit cannot be devoured. I’ll embrace this season of death and rebirth. Let’s get on with it then. Update #002: As many of you may already know, 2020 brought with it for me a herniated disk in my lower lumbar. This caused chronic sciatic pain to shoot down my left leg for the entire first half of the year. The chronic pain eventually put me on bedrest where I could no longer work. For someone who was embracing a yoga routine over the past few years, + had just gotten a brand new bike to boot, I was now finding myself depressed that I couldn’t do the things I wanted to in life anymore -including something as seemingly small but profoundly not- as dancing around my room. This brought about one of the most stressful situations I’ve experienced to date- having spinal surgery. I’d argue to say that any situation that makes you contemplate your actual life is an experience that changes you. I mean, being asked if I had a living will for “just in case”... 😳 was not a conversation I was expecting at 35 but there I was, unable to experience anything different than what fate was pulling me through. Fast forward to now, about a month after surgery and I’m starting to be able to move again. I mean really move. The other day, I was dancing in the rain to my recent favorite @woodkidmusic song. (“Goliath”, in case you were wondering. It’s pure🔥.) I haven’t gone on my first bike ride yet, or done any heavy lifting or many of my normal functions, it is a daily uphill climb to build back what muscle + flexibility I once had before, but I’m thankful for how far I’ve come. Let’s get on with it then. Update #001: After 3 years of marriage + nearing a total of 10 years together, my husband and I have decided to peaceably divorce. Those who know us, know that we are both very compassionate individuals, so please do not feel sorry for us. This was a mutual decision made out of the absolute best expression of care for the other. I never thought I would be someone in this boat, but I must be honest with you when I say it’s not at all like I had ever feared or imagined. Things rarely are, aren’t they? At the end of the day, I truly believe everything happens for a reason. It is no mistake or failure that we are able to still care for each other, while no longer being a team. Our paths have lead us in different directions, but I will always remain thankful for the time + lessons learned while together. I felt led to share this story for another reason, as well. I know I’m not alone in this difficult, trying time. When we had visited the courthouse to sign our papers, there was a bulletin board bursting at the seams with divorce hearing notices for the many other couples over Central Florida that had to face this tough decision during 2020’s upheaval. I just want you to know it gets better. Fall is for letting things die so new things can grow. And though this is, without a shadow of a doubt, the hardest time I have ever experienced in my life so far (for many reasons, on many levels) I’m grateful for every moment I can continue to learn and grow. 🌊 Coming Up For Air 🌊 . I know. It’s been a hot minute since I’ve posted anything. If I told you it’s been a hell of a year, would you believe me? The truth of the matter is I feel as though I’m finally floating back to the surface to capture my first real gasp of air in quite some time. The waves were no match for my inner warrior. She lives. Still breathing.
