“Our needs and wants are our summoner’s.” He answered easily. “And our goals and ambitions are whatever our current summoner’s ones are.”
They were familiar questions he was used to, things that his previous summoners used to ask. Some were curious enough to wonder what would happen to their celestial spirits when they long passed on, but honestly, there weren’t much that would be changed.
He idly scratched his chin, leaning forward on the bar counter. “As someone who lives forever, I can’t say I have anything to look forward to.”
“We were originally created to protect.” He said. “And when we were created, we were instilled with the desire to protect our summoners.” He exhaled, and looked over at the script mage. “I know that there are some people that thinks we celestial spirits are nothing more than slaves to mages, but we are created to be protectors for humans.”
“I wonder who created you that way. An entire culture made to protect humans. If you had that kind of power... to spend it on us.” Levy’s thoughts drifted slightly as she thought about Loke’s predicament. So attached and tightly woven into the fabric of humanity. Protectors.
A sudden thought hit Levy. “But what if humans we to lose magic?” Her voice was a tad frantic. “I mean we could easily end up like those in Edolas. What, what would happen to you? You’re technically immortal but...” would Loke and the other simply waste away? Or would they continue on without the presence of humans?
“Without any summoner, no chance of returning to this world, would you go on living?”

Levy laughed. “Old Mira was scary. I mean, so was Erza but at least Erza liked me. I doubt Mira did back then.” She smiled nervously at Gray’s encouragement. It wasn’t as if she wasn’t used to people being encouraging towards her. She knew well that her talents were a needed thing in the world. She just never quite fit in with the combat-orientated Fairy Tail.
“Thank you, Gray. I appreciate the encouragement.” She said softly. Her eyes drifted downwards and towards the window, watching as thick forest blurred by. “It’s difficult you know, in this world where overwhelming power is so valued. I know my talents lie elsewhere, and they have their use, but even now. I need a bodyguard for this job. I can’t defend myself well enough.” Levy felt tired already. “But I’m just complaining. Sorry about that Gray.”

Levy’s smile dropped a little when Gajeel turned away. She didn’t catch his blush. “Hey, everyone who reads a lot gets blurry eyesight after a while. There is nothing wrong with it. Just because you wear glasses doesn’t mean that you’re not as good as anyone else.” Levy reached out without thinking and grabbed his hand. “Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.” She smiled encouragingly. “Besides, you can at least reach things you need.”

In The Night - Open Starter
Levy waved a quick goodbye to Mira before the guild door creaked shut behind her. It slammed hard, leaving Levy alone under the moonlight with nought but a satchel and a pile of books in her arms. She walked down the path she knew well, hoping to get home with no trouble. After all, it was rare for the small girl to be out alone so later. Her own fault of course, for wanting to take her time working with an old tome she’d received as a mission reward.
Her sandals clacked on the streets of Magnolia, echoing loudly. No one else was about, all at home in their beds. A cold gust of air stole past her and raised goosebumps on her skin. She shivered. Something about the shadows seemed unsafe that evening. She knew she was being foolish, but she couldn’t help her elevated pulse. A clatter from behind her made her pause.
“Who’s there?” She called. Both hoping for an answer and not.

Levy looked up from her book with wide eyes before a smile bloomed on her face. She jumped up from her seat, excited. “Ooh! A new book? It looks so cool.” She said in obvious awe. Levy was a known lover of any book that looked mildly interetsing. “But, but what is it?” She couldn’t remember asking Elfman for a book...

“Levy!” In obviously high spirits, the tall boy made his rushed way to the blue-haired girl, rather victoriously holding a book high up. “Levy! I finally found you!” He was obviously excited about this; “Look, look! I finally found it!” Elfman proudly declared, showing a slightly thick book.

Levy sank into Cana’s embrace, her tears falling harder at the familiar sensation of having warm and comforting arms around her. How long had it been since she’d last felt that in earnest? Too long really. “If I leave him, where do I go?” She whispered.

Levy blinked in slight disbelief when she looked at Gajeel. He looked... really, really good. Levy had no idea why he neglected to share this little tidbit of information with he rest of the guild but she realised that the fact that he’d only shown her made her feel special. “They suit you,” she said softly, reaching up to tuck a few warrant strands behind his ear and adjust the frame.

Levy shrugged slightly. “You guys were strong for kids our age. I mean Erza was terrifying, as was Mirajane back then, but you two seemed like the average couple of rowdy boys. It gave me a bit of hope you know. ‘Even though I’m pretty average, I’ve still got potential’. That kind of thing. It’s difficult to explain I guess.”
Levy laughed it off, but everything she had said was the truth. She’d always felt a little incompetent compared to some of the guild members, but seeing Gray and Natsu keep on trying despite being beaten half to death by Erza twice a day made her feel a bit better.

Levy blinked and leaned forwards a bit in interest. Her ‘must-learn-as-much-as-possible’ instincts were kicking in. That was certainly something she’d never heard about. Knowing Aquarius and Scorpio as she did she hadn’t thought that celestial spirits weren’t actually really romantically inclined.
Her mind casually jumped right over his comment regarding Gajeel as if it was unimportant, even though her telltale blush said the opposite.
“That’s something I didn’t know. Um, how do I ask this without it being rude,?” levy furrowed her eyebrows, “Are all celestial spirits asexual? Or aromantic? I mean, you don’t have to answer if you don’t want to. I’m being insensitive.”
Levy winced. That had certainly not come out right.
He stared at her in amusement as a fervid light immediately appeared in her eyes. Levy only looked like that whenever she’s pursuing knowledge. He never thought she’d ever directed that sort of gaze on him though. He didn’t know what to feel, but he felt a little like a beetle under a microscope.
…Right, bad metaphor. He never wanted to be compared to a beetle.
“You’re not rude. You’re just the first to ever ask this sort of thing.” He reassured her. “How do I phrase it? Um, humans have sex because they have a biological need to procreate, right? The female celestial spirits can’t… well, they can’t get pregnant, and the males can’t get a female human pregnant, so we all have pretty low sex drive.” He shrugged. “Not that we can’t have sex though.”
“I said we’re not really made to love romantically, not that we can’t. You saw Scorpio and Aquarius, right?” He asked rhetorically. “I can’t speak for the others, since I have no idea. We don’t tend to talk about such things.”
Levy listened to his explanation attentively, nodding every so often. Everything he said made perfect sense. Levy felt a bit silly for not realising a lot of it sooner.
“I get it. Your explanation was pretty thorough and well thought out. I just have one question though. I mean, a lot of the reason humans still go about on this planet - exist almost - is because of the need to procreate The desire to keep the race going. For you, celestial spirits I mean, is that desire to keep going shifted on to needing to protect? I mean you can’t die, so other than personal needs and wants there must be something you all strive for.”
Levy didn’t know if she was getting much to deep and personal now but the question had been bothering her, and she wasn’t the kind of person to sit still when she knew that she had a potential way of answering a question.

i want to write relationships that are complicated.
i want to write the on-again-off-again relationships. i want the screaming matches and the cancelled dates and the hurt feelings and the second guesses and second chances.
i want to write people who completely shake up each other’s daily routine and flip their entire world on its axis. i want them to drive each other crazy and question why they bother sticking around and then remember the way their partner laughs or see them in a moment of vulnerability that tells them ‘this is is why i stay. this is why i love you.‘
i want to write relationships with struggles. with class differences and financial divide. two people who are so completely different they somehow complete each other. i want the jealousy and the feelings of inadequacy that goes with it.
i want to write people who aren’t afraid to be honest with their partner. who aren’t afraid to say ‘yeah you’re being an asshole’ followed by 'but i still love you, you idiot.’
i want the first time they see their partner cry and the morning after their first intimate night when everything feels so right.
i want people who get so used to one another that they stop going the extra mile. i want the 'you don’t make the effort because you already have me’ argument.
i want relationships that challenge each other to be better people and make each other question their beliefs and moral compass.
but most of all, i want to write relationships that are real. that make you feel something. i want to go on the emotional rollercoaster right along with them.
that’s what i want.
