Blinky Palermo “Shortly before his death in 1977, German painter Blinky Palermo created his most significant cycle of paintings, dedicating it "to the people of nyc." The work consists of 15 parts, composed from 40 painted aluminum panels arranged in combinations of cadmium red, cadmium yellow and black. Recalling Piet Mondrian's late series New York City (1941-42), and works by such American artists as Robert Ryman and Brice Marden, To the People of New York City (1976) is distinguished by its prescribed hanging and pacing, and its rhythmically changing formats, which also bring to mind the Jazz performances that Palermo sought out during his time in New York, where he had maintained a studio from 1973 to 1975.”

a revisit
It’s nostalgia, melancholy inducing to return to this old “art” blog here. I fell in love with so much through this forum. Images. Potential energy. Dreams. The refreshment that is the work of creative minds. As I unexpectedly revisited it this evening, I began to feel that certain way again that I hadn’t in a long time. I remembered what it’s like to have free time and open space within to have feelings stirred and passion bubble, visions fertilized. Art is coping with the absurdity. It reminds me of wanting to break free, wanting to be free by leaning into the absurdity, chasing after the wind.

Letha Wilson at GRIMM
A lone palm stands peaceful and unmolested above the collision of man-made material and nature photography that is Letha Wilson’s ‘Steel Face Concrete Bend (Kauai Palm)’ at GRIMM on the Lower East Side. Inside a steel frame, concrete printed with a landscape photo abuts an actual photographic print as man and nature messily come into contact. (On view through April 22nd ). Letha Wilson, Steel Face Concrete Bend (Kauai Palm), unique c-prints, concrete, emulsion transfer, steel frame, 38 x 32 x 1 ½ inches, 2018.
