Tex happily relaxed under the blanket, finally drifting to sleep I’m Church’s lap. She liked sleeping next to Church. He was warm, and not too sweaty, and she felt safe when he was with her. He was perfect to fall asleep on after a long workout.

“Vacation is when you’re not working. If you get hurt you’re not working. Boom. Instant vacation.” Tex was really starting to enter the sleepy zone. “Give me that blanket.” She said, gesturing to the one on the arm of the couch.
Church was not nearly awake enough to try and sort out the logic of that line of thinking, but that was probably the point, wasn’t it? Rolling his eyes yet again, he reached over to grab the blanket and unceremoniously toss it onto Tex. “There you go, lazybones.”

Tex had a really weird definition of ‘productive,’ didn’t she? “No, see, that’s medical leave. Vacation days are totally different. Not that I really know the fine details of mercenary benefits, but still.”

“Yes, because the Project is a standard we should all be holding ourselves to.” Bad excuse, Tex. Zero out of ten. Just pass out already so Church can take a picture. “I’m pretty sure you have, like, a thousand vacation days saved up, though.”

“I don’t need breaks. During the project I trained and worked 16 hours a day, and I was fine.” She definitely wasn’t fine, but instead of choosing to unpack that she threw away the whole suitcase. “I’m working way less now, so I definitely have no excuse to take breaks.” She was starting to get sleepy.

“I don’t need breaks.” She relaxed as he ran his fingers through her hair. “I’m better than that.” A faint, pleased smile crept onto her face. She couldn’t possibly take a nap here on the couch. There was so much to do and so little time. She was just too busy to take time for herself, but if she just happened to fall asleep with her head in Church’s lap it would just be an accident, it wasn’t being lazy or taking a break.
