Gay rights are human rights too.

Actress and advocate Laverne Cox is slated to produce an MTV documentary called  "Trans Teen: The Documentary," about transgender youth all across America. It’s scheduled to come out in the fall. 

From a press release sent to the Huffington Post:

This one-hour documentary will take viewers inside the lives of four trans youth –- young people who, until recently, may not have even felt safe sharing their lives with others. Ranging in age from 14 to 24 and hailing from diverse neighborhoods across America, each of the four cast members has their own unique story to tell. But this isn’t a story about being an “other” –- it’s about being human. They all share the courage and determination to live their lives authentically, as the person they were meant to be. With varying levels of parental and social support, they will share their brave journeys as they learn to overcome challenges like intolerance, bullying and general confusion about who and what they are.

This. This is what we need to see more of. Laverne will do an incredible job with this, and I cannot wait to see it.

Robin Roberts is on the number one morning show in America. As one of the most well-respected and recognized television personalities, she’s given Good Morning America viewers an intimate look at her breast cancer diagnosis and treatment, allowing cameras to capture her while going through chemotherapy and much of her time was spent in hospital beds instead of her anchor chair. After a successful recovery, it was only a few years later that Robin learned she had MDS (myelodysplastic syndrome), a blood condition that can affect those who have gone through extensive cancer treatment.

GMA fans have seen Robin’s triumphant return twice now, as she had a bone marrow transplant from her sister, Sally-Ann, that gave her a brand new life. (Robin now considers herself two years old, counting her transplant day as her rebirth.) And with that rebirth has also come an even more special insight into the woman that is Robin Roberts. This past March, Robin let viewers in on one of the most important relationships in her life, one that helped her through two miraculous journeys and recoveries that have made her the happiest and healthiest she’s ever been: Her partner, Amber Laign.

I am learning every day to allow the space between where I am and where I want to be to inspire me and not terrify me.

What would you say to LGBT hating parents? I need to get out...but I'm scared

What would *I* say? That is hard- if they HATE LGBT people, I don’t know why they would be talking to me! I would probably appeal to their reason for having a child. I’d ask if they loved their child. Provide educational things for them to think about (PFLAG.org) and then talk about the damage they are doing to their child by not accepting them as they are. Suicide, depression, and more. Would they rather their child be gay or dead? 

What should YOU say to YOUR parents? Something along the lines that I described. Let them know that their choice is to have you in their lives or not. If they decide they don’t want you if you are queer- then you know that your life will have to go on without them You will need to create your own family- families by choice- people who love you but aren’t blood related. Then, someday, they may realize what they’ve lost and come to understand that they were wrong and that they have “evolved”. I hope they can evolve faster than that though.

To help a contestant struggling with his own sexuality, Bob Harper made the decision to come out publicly as a gay man on “The Biggest Loser.” Bobby had admitted on the show that he was gay, but he’d yet to be able to come out to his father. “I haven’t talked about my sexuality on this show ever,” Bob said in a confessional. “And now, meeting Bobby, I really do believe this is the right time. I want to show Bobby that he doesn’t have to live in shame.”
