Tunnel of Love
Blue Pyro x Female Reader
AN: your class name is Vet short for Veterinarian
Pyro had a problem, he had a massive choice to make, a choice that would change everything.
He had sat Spy down and held up two identical flame resiatant suits. As if he was asking which one Spy thought looked better.
Sniper looked on, taking a sip of his coffee.
“I don’t get it, they look the exact same”
Heavy shurgged, turning a page in his novel
“To you, but maybe is different for Pyro”
Spy took a drag of his cigarette, looking at the suits with a critical eye. He gestured to the right one
“I personally prefer the two inch inseam with the cleaner hemlines”
Pyro nodded before rushing back to his quarters, eager to take Spys advice.
Sniper handed him a cup of black coffee.
“Was there actually a difference?”
“Of course not, every suit he has is identical, but he wouldn’t leave me alone unless I told him something”
“Odd bloke that one,”
Pyro had always been odd, but the past few weeks, it was really taken up a notch. He had slowly started taking some of the mercs personal hygiene items.
A razor from Demoman, a comb from Sniper, Cologne from Spy, the list went on. While it was strange, the team didn’t think much of it.
Spy handed Sniper a spare cigarette,
“I am all for our firebig friend improving his apperance, whatever that might be”
“What's the use of improving it if we don’t see it?”
Heavy shrugged
“Self confidence?”
But Pyro had a reason, and it was located on the Red Team.
Vet was holding up a pretty good fight, getting to the injured Medic couldn’t. She tossed a med pack at Engineer before going to check on Demoman, carefully avoiding sentries and open sniper spots where she could. She ran into the tunnels, switching on her flashlight.
“Demo?”
She had seen him run in, chasing someone into the tunnels. As Vet went further, she could smell something absolutely foreboding. Smoke.
Vet clicked off her flashlight and immediately turned to get out of the tunnels as quickly as she could.
A thick, gloved hand stopped her from doing so. She didn’t want to look, she really didn’t, she didn’t want to look into the black eye holes of the Blue Pyros mask.
She stood still, waiting for the unbearable heat that came from his flamethrower, but it never came. Vet slowly turned to face him, still waiting for the final blow.
It never came, Pyro cocked his head to the side as if to ask her what was wrong.
“...hi?”
His demenor changed, suddenly elated that she was talking to him. Pyro started to gently pull further into the tunnels, Vet went along. If this is what kept her from burning to death, then she would take it.
As they got deeper, she could see the small, flickering light of candles. Pyro led her to an open area, a blanket laid down on the ground and candles providing light in their dark surroundings. Vet could spot the man-sized lump wrapped in a tarp and shoved to the farthest wall. She knew it was Demo, it was an awful sight but at least he was covered.
Pyro had her sit down on the blanket, holding both hands out to tell her to stay put. Vet did as she was told, fear making a home in the pit of her chest. He came trotting back with a basket filled with MannCo sponsored goods. Vet was stunned, it was filled with jams, dried fruit, and even small chocolate bars. These goods only came once in a blue moon, it would have taken him months to collect all these. Pyro shoved the basket in Vets arms and sat down across from her, gauging her reaction.
“You- you got me these?”
Pyro nodded eagerly and clapped his hands.
“I don’t know what to say,”
She really didn’t. Sure, she had noticed that Pyro never targeted her on the field, but she had assumed that she wasn’t a threat to him. So he never bothered to track her down, but this? This was a confession.
“I’m sorry, I don’t have anything for you, I didn’t know-”
Vet spotted a rip in his suit, exposing charred skin. Demoman must have done some damage before he met his end.
“But I can help with that, let me see your arm”
Pyro was all too happy to thrust his arm over to her, nearly vibrating with excitement. Vet pulled out her supplies and got to work treating the near 3rd degree burn.
“You didn’t feel this?”
Pyro shook his head, followed by a shrug.
“I guess you’ve become numb to it, handling fire like you do”
She treated him like he was glass, careful to not irritate the surrounding scarred skin.
“You should really see your Medic for this, my work won’t last you long”
He looked fascinated at the bandaging she had done, like it was the most precious gift he had ever recieved.
“I wish I could give you more but…but maybe next time?”
Vet couldn’t believe what she just said, did she really just sign herself up for this again? Had she officially lost it?
Pyros head snapped up and starting clapping again with glee.
“Okay, we can do that…without any burnt bodies though”
Pyro nodded and crossed his heart with his finger, making a promise.
At this point, Vet had been gone for awhile, she didn’t know where her team stood in the match. Pyro didn’t seem bothered, but they couldn’t stay there forever.
“Pyro, this has been fun, but we should get back. Our teams need us,”
His shoulders slumped forward but he nodded anyway. Standing up and holding his hand out to help her up. Vet took it, taking note that he was being extra gentle with her.
Pyro never let go over her hand, leading her out the tunnels with ease. When they got to the entrance, he hesitated to let her go
“It’s okay, like I told you, we can do this again,”
This seemed to put him at ease, before he let go. Pyro pressed his mask to Vets cheek before running back down the tunnels. Leaving Vet perplexed and with a basket full of goods. Her cheeks were burning red after his “kiss”. Vet wasn’t exactly sure what happened, but she would be prepared with gifts and treats for next time.
After the battle was over and each time went to recover from their wounds. Blue team watched as their Pyro looked through a book about flower meanings.
Scout look shocked
“I didn’t know he could read-“
Sniper elbowed him
“If it keeps him busy and away from fire, then shut it.”
They could talk all they wanted but Pyro didn’t care. He had a second date with the cutest girl in the world, and he hoped it would lead to many more.

Smoke and the Stars
Spy x Reader
AN: In this story, your class name is Vet, short for Veterinarian.
Being elbow deep in Demomans organs was a bi-monthly activity Vet had to endure.
Not that she was complaining, once she got her first paycheck, she would do this every week if The Administrator asked. Her free hand reached up to swat the bottle of bourbon Demo was trying to pick up
“Stop that, At least wait until I get the new liver in”
“Aw, you’re no fun lassie,”
“You know what’s not fun? Liver failure”
Demo huffed and rolled his eyes as Vet slid the freshly sourced liver into place. Grabbing the Medigun above to seal the wound. Vet removed her blood stained gloves and handed Demo his well earned bottle.
“It would really help if you waited a few hours before drinking-“
“See you at dinner lass!”
He was already out the door. Vet sighed and cracked the bones in her sore back.
While she had gotten her degree in Veterinary Medicine, Miss Pauline assured her these men were close enough to animals. So far, she was right, Vet was sure that animals would leave less of a mess than her team did.
One of Medics spare doves cooed around her, hopping on her tool tray for attention. Vet smiled and rubbed the birds head with her finger
“Oh I know, I wish I could treat you instead.”
The dove cooed again before flying off to one of the many treat trays she had set around the operating room.
Vet opened the double doors out to the waiting room, going over her checklist.
“Alright boys, who’s next-“
Scout shoved himself infront of her before she could finish, trying to look sauve as possible with missing teeth.
Vet side stepped him and went about with her business. With Medic handling Heavy after an ubercharge gone wrong, she was left especially busy.
“Engineer?”
The Texan shook his head and leaned back in his chair
“Just came here for painkillers, arms been acting up”
Vet hummed and gave him a small RX bottle, moving down her list.
“Spy?”
Spy was something to say the least, she had never met someone so elegant and standoffish in her life, not to the mention his nasty habit of chain smoking.
Spy pulled away from his cigarette, letting the smoke spill from his lips.
“Trouble breathing,”
Vet did a double take
“You didn’t say that earlier?”
“I had an appointment with my tailor,”
Vet groaned, and motioned for him to follow her back into the operating room.
As she got set up again, she warily eyed the cigarette he held.
“Please put that out while you’re in here, trying to keep it clean”
“I know what Medic has in his fridge, and it’s not clean at all”
“I’m not Medic,”
Spy put out the cigarette anyway, standoffish? Yes, but a gentleman first.
With the Medigun positioned, and his suit unbuttoned, Vet got to work.
“You wouldn’t have trouble breathing if you didn’t smoke”
“Do you harass all your patients like this?”
“Only the fun ones,”
She smiled warily at him, Spy could see the exhaustion etched permanently on her face. He knew this was adding onto her pile of never ending work, but addiction is hard to break.
“It’s my escape, how else do you expect me to put up with Scouts insufferable antics?”
“Ignoring him like I do”
“You have more patience than me,”
Vet carefully removed one half of a blackened lung, quickly going to search the fridge for a fresh lung
“Thats the first ever complement you’ve given me, I’m honored Spy”
“It was an observation, not a complement”
“Keep telling yourself that”
The conversation slipped into comfortable silence. Spy closed his eyes and relaxed while she worked, he would never admit it. But he preferred her work over Medics, maybe it was her gentle touch rather than Medics harsh treatment. Or the rare moments of quiet she offered compared to the rest of the base.
It was almost like he could let his guard down, almost.
“Done.”
Vet closed him up and repeated her cleaning process, Spy’s fingers immediately found a cigarette and lighter.
“Absolutely not,”
Vet snatched the lighter
“No smoking in here, anywhere else sure, but I told you not in here,”
Spy admired her tenacity and unwillingness to back down, it made for interesting conversation. Another rare find throughout the base.
But still, he rolled his eyes and made his way to the exit. Vet right behind him to bring in her new patient.
“You’re work is always appreciated Doctor, but I’m afraid your insight will be ignored”
“Nicotine patches are a thing-“
“Nicotine patches don’t have elegance,”
He held out his hand for his lighter snd Vet reluctantly dropped it in.
“Being healthy is elegant. I just want the best for you boys”
Spy came to the conclusion Vet was a wonderful Doctor, but would make a terrible Spy. Always so open and honest, her emotions worn on her sleeve and ready to help at a moments notice.
Spy nodded at her before making his exit, momentarily considering her words.
But the lighter still flicked on and smoke once more filled his lungs.
Vet watched, a disapproving look on her face.
Scout tried to approach again but was shoved out of the way by a frantic Pyro. Holding up a stuffed animal with a tear in it. She knew she still had a long day ahead of her.
Weeks later, Spy found himself on the rooftop of TwoFort. Taking a drag of his comfort while looking up at the night sky. Vet was right, this was a nasty habit, but damn if it wasn’t warning him from the inside. It seemed like she was on his mind more and more nowadays.
Spy hated it, he hated feeling distracted, he hated how he wanted to talk to her and be in her presence.
He chalked it up to finally having worthy conversation partner, nothing more, nothing less.
“Mind if I join you?”
Speak of the devil and she shall appear
Vet closed the roof door behind her, dressed in more casual clothes that Spy hadn’t seen before.
Giving her a once over, he decided that it was a good look for her. Something that she would wear more often in her down time.
“Please, by all means,”
To his surprise, she took a seat right next to him, not complaining about the smoke
“No condescending comments today about how cigarettes are ruining my lungs?”
“I can’t make you stop, and this isn’t the operating room. I don’t like it, but you can do what you like,”
He considered for a moment putting it out but quickly disregarded the thought.
“What beings you up here in the night? Not pulling an all night are you?”
Vet chuckled and shook her head, opting to lean on the railing.
“No, just couldn’t sleep, how about you?”
“Wondering why I ever took this job”
“I thought it was the pay”
“No amount of money could pay me to deal with some of our colleagues”
Vet nodded and looked up at the sky
“I can relate, but if you left. Who would entertain me?”
Spy barked out a laugh and rolled his eyes
“Surely I am not your first choice of company”
Vet shrugged, lazily looking over at him
“You’re quiet, I like quiet. Let’s me clear my head and just exist for a moment”
Spy’s fingers twitched, something foreign rising in his chest before shoving it back down again
“Then you are most certainly foolish,”
“I don’t think I am, I think you’re just used to being alone,”
How could she say that so causally? This would be a borderline declaration of love where he was from. But this was just how Vet was, always upfront and truthful.
“I prefer solitude,”
“Then why are you still talking to me?”
“…you are an exception,”
Spy refused to make eye contact with her, looking out into the desert. But Vet didn’t mind, she didn’t need to see his eyes to know his sincerity.
She didn’t press him about hie comment, something he was grateful for. Instead they spent the hours in the rare quiet, basking in each others company and the stars.
Smoke was everywhere, Vet couldn’t see anything but smoke. Wheezing, she stayed close to the ground, trying to find her way out of the burning inferno.
She could hear the screams of Sniper and Scout burning. The hot cement burned her skin, embers eating away at her slowly. Vet knew the opposite Pyro was coming for her next, but she couldn’t leave fast enough. The smoke entering her lungs and weighing her down. She was so tired, she just wanted to sleep.
Vet closed her eyes and rested her head on the floor, ignoring the pain going up her cheek.
She assumed the footsteps behind her was the Pyro coming to finish her off. A hand grabbed at her, pulling her up with little hesitation.
Fingers snapped in front of her face, trying to get her to focus.
“Vet? Vet! Answer me!” that lovely French accent flooded her thoughts. But she could only moan in pain.
Spy swore and swiftly supported her weight, trying to get her out of the smoke filled barn. He had never seen her like this, so hurt and so vulnerable. He would be lying if he said he wasn’t panicking.
Spy couldn’t ignore the tightness in his stomach and the growing dread in his heart, not this time. He was able to ignore every iota of emotion towards Vet up until now, now she was badly hurt. This wasn’t how he imagined his first time holding her, but he couldn’t think on that now.
“Come on Mon Coeur, just a few steps forward”
“I can’t-“
“You can, don’t say such a thing”
He picked up his space, offering her rare words of encouragement while he navigated their escape. Heavy was able to hunt down the Pyro while Medic treated Vet. Spy watched on, making sure the wounds healed.
Whether she knew it or not, Spy dedicated himself to her safety from then on. Of course, she could still Respawn, but he would rather see her unharmed rather than see her suffer from the hands of combat. This was how he showed his dedication and loyalty, and Vet knew it. It was something understood between the both of them.
“Out late again?”
Spy heard the door of the roof shut, a sound that brought him comfort now.
“The stars require my company Mon Coeur,”
“The stars aren’t the only ones”
Vet took her usual spot next to him, just a few inches of space between the two.
Spy put out the cigarette he had lit just moments before, waving the smoke away quickly before it could reach Vet.
Vet didn’t say anything about it, she just smiled.
“Are you ever gonna teach me French?”
“There is no such time to learn the complexities of my language with our occupation”
Vet hummed snd looked up at the sky, moving a little closer to him.
“That’s a shame, you speak it so beautifully,”
Spy had long given up at the suppressing the warmth in his chest that she brought him, it was his new addiction.
“Another day Mon Coeur, I promise you”
Vet nodded and leaned her head on his shoulder, the both of them looking up the stars.
The two fell into their familiar silence, they could have spoken more but they didn’t need to. Spy already knew how he felt, and Vet knew it too. She always had.

Roses are red, Sniper is Blue
Blue Sniper x Reader
AN: Your class name is Assist in this story
Blue Sniper could hear his teammates dying. Even worse, he could see the Red Team heading towards his current hiding spot.
“Shit, shit, shit!”
Sniper hissed, quickly taking into account his weaponry.
Sniper rifle? Out of bullets
Machete? Currently sticking out of a red scouts body
Jars of piss? He has a surplus of them.
He ran through the options in his head, he could fight. Which depending on which red team member he was facing, meant that he wouldn’t be blessed with a quick death.
Or he could hide, seemingly a better. More risky option.
Sniper shoved his body behind a stack of Mann Co. barrels. Squeezing his body in-between the cheap metal and the wall.
Seconds later, the door was kicked in. Sniper could see it bounce off the wall before the Red Medic strolled in, syringe gun at the ready.
Sniper immediately started sweating, remembering how Blue Spy couldn’t respawn for a week because Red Medic kept his head in the fridge. Who does that?
Following the Medic was someone he saw plenty of, but didn’t know much about. Assist.
“Doc, you’re sure he’s here?”
“Of course I am! I saw the reflection from his rifle”
Assist step further into the room, spotting the dropped sniper rifle
“He might have already ran-“
“And leave his weapon?”
“If he was desperate enough, he has no backup. Blue team is gone expect for him,”
Assist only confirmed what sniper already knew.
He tried to keep his breathing even, doing his best not to he seen.
He had only seen Assist through his scope, and while she wasn’t bad to look through his weapon. Sniper realized she looked even better in person.
And while he prides himself of distancing his emotions from his work. A pretty girl is a pretty girl, and Sniper can appreciate that. He is only a man after all.
He counted the seconds off his head, hoping they would leave soon. Assist stepped closer, moving around boxes.
“Medic, I don’t really think he’s-“
She kicked over a barrel, just catching Snipers shades in the shadows.
“Here…”
“Did you find him?”
Assist just stared at him and Sniper stared back. She blinked, Sniper could see her weighing her options in her head before taking a breath.
“No,”
Sniper watched with confusion as she placed the barrel back where it was. Once again, hiding him completely.
“He’s not here Medic”
“The coward probably ran…and I needed new organs too”
Medic whined, holstering his weapon.
“There’s literally a dead Spy outside, you killed him”
“His organs aren’t fresh…and I already have his spleen,”
“Gross”
Sniper watched as the two walked off. Opting to stay completely silent until they were a safe distance away.
He drug himself up from his hiding spot, taking a deep breath of fresh air as he did so.
He was sweating, his heat beating too fast and his hands shaking. Somehow he knew it wasn’t from the close encounter with death he just had.
“…bugger”
Sniper considered himself a rather sane individual, but what he was doing was anything but the sort.
Sneaking into Red Base at night? Might as well be signing his death warrant.
He didn’t even know why, he was doing this, it just felt right. From a distance, Sniper quickly set up his scope, peering into the glass. From across the way he could see the Red Lounge, every team member either relaxing or nursing their wounds after todays fight.
There was only one member Sniper was concerned about. Assist was dozing off on the couch, Sniper all too familiar with how Red Team runs her ragged during battles.
And so he waits, he waits and waits until Assist drags herself up, stretching to get her blood flowing.
Tracking her through his scope, he watches her bid her team goodnight and exit the lounge. From there it wasn’t hard to follow her movements to her quarters. Through the slits in her blinds, Sniper could just make out her form. If he wanted to, he could have increased his scope and glanced at her changing into nightclothes. Using restraint, Sniper put down his scope and lay still, not daring to move until he saw the light in her room go out.
It was easy enough shimming up the drain pipe to her window, placing a Blue rose he had stolen from Pyros garden on the edge of it.
‘There, we’re even’ he thought while running back to his own base. This was settled, no more sneaking up to a pretty girls window. Whatever debt he owed to her was paid.
That’s what he kept telling himself anyway. During battles, Sniper had a habit of “checking in” on Assist. It was only natural to keep tabs on your enemy.
“Just to keep her in sight” he mutters to himself, following her figure around the war zone. Red didn’t have the lead this time, Blue team was back for blood. And blood they did have.
The ground was soaked in it, the hot sun doing little to help. Sniper adjusted his scopes on Assist, getting to view her closer.
He frowned, sucking his teeth when he saw she wasn’t doing well.
Assist had backed herself into a semi hidden corner, using the shelter to patch her wounds up.
Sniper took his gaze away from his scope, looking around the field for her teammates. It wasn’t often she was left alone, especially if she was insured.
He got his answer when he spotted his Pyro lighting a bonfire with the bodies of Red Team, all but missing one of course.
Quickly switching back to his scope, to his shock, Assist was gone.
“What the hell?”
Sniper reevaluated the field, trying to spot any glimpse of her. The fight wasn’t called off yet, so she was still alive.
“Come on Bird, where are you?” Sniper muttered, his focus on his own team gone.
He received his answer once the door to his sniper perch was broken into.
Assist dragged herself up through the door, covered in blood and god knows what else. How she made it up the latter was a miracle itself.
Groaning and spitting curses to herself, Assist seemed preoccupied in shutting and locking the door again, placing a crate over it for safety. Not realizing her real threat was in the perch with her.
Sniper just watched carefully, he knew she wasn’t the type to give up easy, but this was a whole new level.
It wasn’t until she started to move a second crate that he spoke up.
“That’s really not necessary”
Assist shrieked at the sudden voice, nearly losing her balance whipping around to face Sniper
“How long have you been here?”
“The whole match, how long have you been bleeding?”
“The whole match”
Assist went to grab her hunting knife but remembered she didn’t have it, she didn’t have anything. Sniper felt a twinge in his chest, he didn’t want her to see him as a threat. He could be nice, he could be gentlemanly.
“Calm down Bird, it’s just us up here”
“That’s what I’m worried about,”
She was a smart girl, not being quick to let her guard down.
Sniper slowly set his rifle down, and kicked it across the room. Skidding to a stop against the wall.
“There, and I don’t have my machete on me either, I’m not gonna hurt you,”
He put his hands up to show he wasn’t a threat. Of course he still was, who else was picking off her teammates during the fight.
It took a minute, but Assist relented. Dropping like a rag-doll to the floor, leaning back against the crates. Sniper joined in, sitting across from her.
“Feeling friendly today?”
“Just towards you Bird,”
Assist smiled, using whatever little energy she had left to do so.
“Aren’t you sweet,”
“Just returning the favor”
She laughed and Sniper wanted to hear that sound more, preferably off the battle field.
“I have a strange suspicion that you were the one to drop off that rose,”
Blood was soaking the wooden floorboards now, whatever medpack she had gotten only helped minimally.
“Had to pay off my debt somehow,” Sniper took off his hat, setting it down beside him
“Women like flowers don’t they?”
Assist nodded, her smile still lingering
“I do, but I prefer babies breath myself. Roses are my third favorite”
“Only third?”
She hummed in confirmation, Sniper saw her getting ashen by the minute. It wouldn’t be long now with her rate of blood loss.
Assist blinks over at Sniper, a question lingering in her eyes.
“Does that make us even? A flower for a life?”
“Not even close Bird, I think I still owe you”
Not that he minded owing her, especially if it meant seeing her more often.
“Mm, maybe we could make it even”
“I’m listening,”
Assist took a deep breath, a rattle forming in her ribs.
“Win the match for your team” she nudges her head towards his rifle
“A life for a life”
“I don’t think you wanna do that Bird”
“You would be doing me a favor sending me to respawn, better than letting me bleed out here…on this dirty ass floor.”
Sniper laughed, but it didn’t distract from the pit forming in his stomach. He had taken out her teammates no problem, but her? He wasn’t sure he could detach himself from that.
“Bird-“
“Just made it quick, and make sure my next flowers are even prettier”
“And how are you sure you’ll be getting flowers?”
“Just a hunch”
She winked at him, a playful smirk gracing her lips.
He hated how he was willing to go along with her plan, just because she asked.
Slowly, Sniper stood up and retrieved his rifle. The pit in his stomach getting bigger and bigger with each step he took towards her.
“You sure about this Bird?”
“Just make it quick, you can pay me back later,”
Assist tipped back her head and closed her eyes, completely relaxed.
“…I’ll get you the biggest bouquet at the store”
A shot rang out and Blues victory was declared. Victory was sweet, but not for Sniper. For the first time in years, he could feel his hands shaking holding his rifle.
Assist stepped out the respawn machine, stretching her aching muscles. Scout immediately threw an ice pack at her, Assist barely dodging it
“Well there’s princess, taking your sweet time huh?”
“Give me a break Scout, I held out longer than you did”
Engineer clapped her on the back, guiding her towards the mess hall
“Good work today, we’ll get them next time”
Assist thought wistfully back to her conversation with Sniper, she wouldn’t mind a next time. Maybe with less blood loss though.
“Yeah, next time,”
It took her awhile to get back to her room, after a long day. All she wanted to do was curl up and sleep. Until she got a glimpse of something on her windowsill. Opening the window, she retrieved a Bouquet of babies breath tied with blue bow.
She smiled to herself, looking out to see if her admirer was still watching. Assist leaned over the windowsill and blew a kiss into the night air. Hoping he saw it wherever he was.
Snipers cheeks burned at the gesture, as he made his way back to his own base.
All he could think about was how he could leave even prettier flowers at her window.

Trial by Fire
Pyro x Female Reader
AN: your class is called “Assist” in this
“Have you guys every noticed how creepy Pyro is?”
Scout drew another card as Spy took a drag from his cigarette, barely casting Scout a glance.
“The unstable psychopath that we’ve been colleagues with for years? Yes Scout, we’ve noticed. How observant you are”
Demoman barked out a laugh, throwing his head back. Nearly tipping out of his chair, Engineer being the one to stabilize him.
It was a calm night at base, a rarity in their profession. While Scout, Spy, Solider, Demo, and Engineer played cards. Medic and Heavy were lingering behind them, discussing the differences between Russian and German literature. Sniper was settled in a cracked, leather chair, hat over his eyes to catch the sleep he often didn’t get.
“Go Fish!” Solider slammed an Ace on the table.
“Solider, we’re playing Texas hold ‘em, not Go Fish,”
Engineer handed Solider back his card, him being the only one at the table to had enough patience for the merc at the moment.
“Go to hell Spy, that’s not what I meant,” Scout snapped out, trying to lean over and see what hand Demo had.
“Then pray tell, what do you mean?” Spy glanced at Scout, smoke billowing from his mouth.
“I mean, every time Assist is around, so is Pyro. He followers her like a lost puppy”
Spy paused, shifting his eyes to the far corner of the room.
Assist wasn’t doing anything out of the ordinary. Just playing on her game boy, while Pyro loomed behind her, watching her play.
Spy narrowed his gaze before looking back at the hand he had, Shifting his card around.
Engineer drew another card, clearing his throat to speak.
“Now that you mention it, it’s pretty rare that I’ve seen Assist alone…”
“That’s what I’m talkin’ about! He hasn’t left her alone since she got to base”
“What? You suggesting he’s got feelings or something?” Engineer quickly slapped a hand over Demos mouth, glancing up to make sure Pyro didn’t hear.
“Keep your voice down, the last thing I wanna do is piss him off…”
Thankfully Pyros attention was still focused on game Assist was playing.
Spy sets down his cards, a royal flush.
“So what if he does or doesn’t have feelings? Frankly I would like to know less about our firebug colleague”
Engineer, Demo, and Scout reluctantly fold. Solider slams down another card.
“Go Fish! Final offer!”
Engineer pulls Solider back again, getting him out of Spy’s face.
“I agree with Spy, no need getting in his business”
“I disagree”
Engineer jumps at Medics sudden appearance behind him
“I apologize my friend, but I think it’s rather interesting…why don’t we test Scouts theory”
Demo stands up abruptly, grabbing his bottle of hooch
“I’m out, enjoy killing yourselves”
While Spy counts his winnings, he turns his attention towards Medic.
“And how would you go about such an experiment?”
Medic grins, pushing up his glasses
“Well…”
Trial 1:
“A check up?”
Assist looked confused, she had just gotten hers at the beginning of the year. Behind her, Pyro tilted his head
“Yes yes, just the standard checkup. Blood work, psychical, making sure your bones are in the right place”
“Why wouldn’t my bones be in the right place-“
“That’s why you need a check up,”
Assist looked wary, but knew it’s probably best to trust the good doctor
“Okay, I guess if it’s necessary…”
“Excellent! It will be quick, no worry”
Medic rushed her into the medical bay, Pyro tailing behind her.
“Ah ah, I’m sorry Pyro, you must stay out here. Doctor - Patient privacy, you understand.”
Pyro stared blankly at him before taking a seat in the waiting room.
Hands clasped and eyes ahead.
“She’ll be back out in a bit”
Medic smiled before going into the medical bay himself.
3 hours, Assist had been here for 3 hours while Medic checked to see If any of her bones were missing.
“Doc, I’m not trying to doubt your expertise but-“
“Almost done! These X Rays can be hard to read”
In reality, he was keeping an eye on the timer. Hours had passed and it was time to see if his theory had been right.
“Done! All good, no bones are missing”
Assist hops off the patient table, making her way to the doors with Medic behind her.
“Didn’t know it would take so long”
“Bone medicine isn’t an exact science, it takes time and effort”
Medic opens the door for her and just as he thought, there sat Pyro. Sitting in the exact position he started in.
Pyro jumped up once he saw Assist, having a complete change in demeanor.
“Mmmp! Mhmm Mphm Mhm”
“Doc says I’m all good, but I’m starving”
Medic watched as the two walked off, Pyro talking animatedly with his hands.
Very interesting indeed.
Trial 2:
Assist sprinted through Two Fort, hands filled with metal to give to Engineer. She glanced behind her to the Blue Scout that was tailing behind her.
She gritted her teeth and pushed herself harder. While she was sneakier than Scout, she definitely wasn’t faster. His footsteps got louder behind her and she felt him grab her scalp and yank her down to the floor.
“Fuck!”
Assist hit the floor hard, the metal she was carrying clanging down around her.
“Sorry doll, if it’s any consolation, I won’t bash in your pretty face”
“It’s not you dick!”
Assist hissed between her teeth, preparing herself for the uncomfortable feeling that came with respawning.
Cloaked with a butterfly knife raised was the Red Spy, ready to attack.
He stopped once he saw a flash of red and felt the warmth of flame thrower.
The Blue Scout screamed and crumpled to the floor, twitching as the flames consumed him.
Pyro stood unmoving and unwavering until the Scouts body was nothing but ash.
“Mmm Hhpmm?”
“My head hurts…”
Spy watched as Pyro helped Assist to her feet, gathering up some of the metal she dropped while he did so.
“Hmmm Hphmm”
“But I need to get these to Engineer-“
“Mphm!”
“Medic is probably busy-“
Pyro put his hand on the small of Assists back and gently pushes her forward, holding the metal she collected for her.
Before they leave the room, Pyro turns and looks right at the spot where Spy stood.
It felt as if Pyro was looking right at him.
Spy ignored the shiver that went down his spine as the pair left, making a mental note to avoid the arsonist for the day.
Trial 3:
Another successful job meant another long ride back in the van. Night had fallen and Engineer was plucking at his guitar strings as everyone unloaded. He tried not to look at Pyro and Assist, the former sleeping on her friends shoulder.
Everyone but them two knew about this “experiment” and Engineer wanted nothing part of it. He preferred to stay out of trouble and not charred.
The van came to a gentle stop once they were back at base, Heavy making sure to make the least amount of noise possible to not wake up Assist.
Engineer watched as everyone left the van in a drowsy state, all expect for Pyro and Assist. Pyro looked motionless, Engineer couldn’t gauge if he was asleep or awake.
Either way, he couldn’t just leave them in the van.
Cautiously, Engineer approached, moving to gently touch Assists shoulder to wake her up.
A gloved hand caught his wrist before he could do so.
Engineer looked into the black void that was Pyros mask.
He swallowed before gathering his nerve to speak.
“She can’t sleep here tonight Pyro, you know that,”
Pyro just stared back at him
“She’ll be sore tomorrow when she wakes up…”
After a few silent moments, Pyro let go of his wrist and gently shook Assist awake.
“Mmm? Back already?”
She stood on two shaky legs, stretching out, Pyro following suit. Assist bid Engineer Goodnight as Pyro helped her out of the van, guiding her in her half asleep state.
Engineer was left in the van, alone with his suspicions and the night critters
Interlude:
“In conclusion, he is not a sociopath like I thought, but something else entirely. His feelings towards Assist prove it”
Medic cheerily declared, hands clasped behind his back,”
Spy twirled around a cigarette, leaning back in his chair
“And what do we do with this information?”
“I’ll tell you what we’ll do,”
Scout piped up, putting both hands on the table. His face sporting a smile that went ear to ear
“We’re gonna tease the hell of him”
“Lad, do you really think that’s a good idea?”
Demo took a swig of his drink
“He’ll make s’mores over your corpse”
“The bastard has a crush, and I’m not supposed to tease him? What is this? Summer camp?”
Spy flicks ash in Scouts direction
“Whatever you do boy, leave us out of it. I have a feeling Pyro is onto us”
Scout laughs
“No way, I’m not missing this golden opportunity”
Spy flicks his lighter closed
“I look forward to speaking at your funeral”
Trial 4:
A hand slammed itself on the table, almost spilling Assists drink. Pyro being the one to steady it.
Assist let out a sign before glancing up, not please to have their dinner interrupted
“Can I help you Scout?”
“You. Me. Dinner tomorrow”
All action in the cafeteria stopped as all the attention turned on them.
Engineer covered both of Solider and Demo man’s mouths. Medic leaned forward on his elbows, curious to see how this would turn out. Heavy said a quick prayer for Scout while Spy huffed, rolling his eyes.
“I’m sorry?”
“You know we’ve got something between us, so let’s make it official,”
Scout leaned in closer while Assist leaned back to maintain distance.
Everyone wasn’t watching Scout, but Pyro to see his reaction.
Nothing, so far it was nothing, Pyro sat still and stared at Scout, his expression unreadable.
“…no, I’m good Scout, but thanks? I guess?”
A collective sigh of relief swept through the Cafeteria, no murder would be committed today.
Scout shrugged and backed away
“Hey babe, it’s your loss”
Never once did Pyros gaze leave Scout, like he was hunting him.
Medic looked disappointed if anything
“I’m surprised Pyro didn’t do anything, I was hoping for more conclusive results”
Spy passed a cigarette to Medic, then his lighter
“Be grateful we don’t have to mop blood off the floors”
End of Experiment:
Thwip Click
Thwip Click
Scout turned in his sleep, the unknown sound starting to drag him away from his unconscious state
Thwip Click
He sat up and rubbed his eyes, glancing at the clock reading 3:00 am.
Scout grumbled and went to go back to sleep but the light in the corner of his room made his blood run cold.
Thwip Click
Pyro was flicking his lighter on and off, staring right ahead at Scout. Repeatedly making the flame spark and extinguish.
“Heyyy Pyro, watcha, watcha doin buddy?”
Thwip
This time, the lighter stayed on as Pyro stood to his full height
“I didn’t mean anything by it, I was just teasing you know?” Scout started to sweat, realizing now that his actions do have consequences.
Pyro took one step closer
“I won’t do it again okay? I promise I’ll leave her alone, just please don’t hurt me”
Scout begged, and Pyro stopped in his tracks.
Click
The lighter went out, leaving Scout in the dark. He searched blindly for something to defend himself with, but before he could. The door opened and Pyro left, leaving Scout unharmed physically but not mentally.
At least now he knew better than to mess with what belonged to Pyro.
