Things that are totally okay: Shipping two dudes together despite one or more of them having shippy moments with a woman in canon. Things that are NOT okay, and are pretty misogynistic, actually: Shitting on the woman herself or trying to make some sort of argument that she’s actually bad and thus people who ship her with one of the guys are bad, or making fanfics or aus that demonize or kill her off so that the two guys can be together. Bonus bad if she’s a mom and you kill her off so that two guys can raise her kid.

30 queer movies for pride
So far I´ve seen Imagine me & you, Maurice, the miseducation of cameron post, Boy erased, Rocketman, Other people, Striking Vipers, Milk and The Adventures of Priscilla, the queen of the desert. Now for an update, I´ve seen 17 out of 30 movies (hope I´ll make it)
Lilting (2014): 7/10
Tumblr media
I´m going to be honest, I only watched this one because of Ben Whishaw. He never disappoints. This one is a great movie not only for its representation of queerness but also for its depiction of grief. Would reccomend.
The Watermelon Woman (1996): 8/10
Tumblr media
This one surprised me. It´s an indie movie directed, written and edited by Cheryl Dunye (that also acts as the main character), a black lesbian. It´s a must watch for anyone as its the first of its kind. The thing that most resonated with me was the need that many queer people have to see themselves in historical figues that we respect, looking and searching for people like us.
Moonlight (2016): 10/10
Tumblr media
AAAAAA this one is so good. I´m actually very surprised it won best picture because its very different from any other oscar winning movie. It has so much soul and uhhg it´s just perfect. Sorry La La Land, but I´m glad you didn´t won this time. Too bad Greenbook won and the Academy got back to its “oscar bait” roots. This is a movie that will surely be reminded as one of the best out there, well, at least to me. Though it didn´t resonate to me as Rocketman did (maybe because I didn´t watched it on the cinema), it sure is one of the best I´ve seen this month so far.
Can You Ever Forgive Me? (2018): 8/10
Tumblr media
Aww watching this was a pleasant experience. It hits all the right notes and it´s always cool to watch a queer movie that depicts things that actually happened. I like that the characters sexuality isn´t the main point of the movie, it´s just a part of their lifes like in everybody elses. It´s funny, it´s dramatic, it´s sad, it´s heartwarming and sincere. Also, the acting? 10/10
Paris is Burning (1990): 9/10
Tumblr media
I usually say I don´t like documentaries but I think that´s just the young me bitching about something she didn´t like because it reminded her of school. With that said I LOVED Paris is Burning (a documentary), talks about the queer scene in NYC in the 80´s. It has many characters with different aspirations and takes on the balls, voguing, drag and more. It´s not just a movie about the queer people who lived in a complicated time and place, but of all of their dreams and how some of them could only stay like that, a dream.
Tangerine (2015): 6/10
Tumblr media
Mainly known as the “movie shot with an iphone”, it´s a movie about the friendship of two trans women. This is definetly one that I´ll go back to later because I watched in poor circumstances, due to internet and subtitles reasons, but it´s a movie everyone should watch. It made importants steps both for the filmmaking industry and the representation of trans women on screen.
In & Out (1997): 7/10
Tumblr media
I love comedy queer movies made in the 90´s. Though it looses some points in the matter of representing gay men, it´s easy to excuse the mistakes because the film has its heart in the right place. The first half of the movie was comedy gold (nothing will ever be as iconic as his dancing, proving again that “I will survive” by gloria gaynor is the ultimate queer anthem) but I felt that it lost its pace on the other half. Would totally reccomend it if you want something light and fun to watch.
Closet Monster (2015): 6/10
Tumblr media
It was an okay movie. I liked the more surreal parts of it, I just think it didn´t talk to me like other movies in this list. It´s an inventive coming of age story, it just wasn´t for me. But I gotta say it, this movie has one of the best kiss scenes I´ve ever seen.
In conlusion, watch more queer movies, guys. They´re out there, in many genres, to all tastes. (just wish they had more for other letters of the LGBTQIA+ community, not just gay and lesbian, but I´m patient) But hey, if you have any reccomendations, let me know!
