On the subject of Tim's bi awakening, I think it's absolutely hysterical that Tim practically only realized because he was told straight up that they were on a date, like
Tim: the circumstances are bad but at least I got to see an old friend :)
Bernard, moments after being freed by Robin: man I really hope I can finish that date I was on earlier
Tim:
Tim: oh my god

PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF EVERYTHING GO BUY A COPY OF BATMAN: URBAN LEGENDS #6
(if you are financially able to do so)
The best way that we can let DC know this is what we really want is by absolutely selling the fuck out of this comic. Go buy it. Honestly it will probably be a collector's item because it's a key issue since it made Tim bi canon. You won't regret it. Get it.

And we’re back with the script for Batgirl INC Chapter 3 pt II!!! I’m sorry it’s been so infrequent, but I’m looking over all our existing scripts and editing them here and there as we never intended people to be able to see them aside from the creative team. With rumblings of Cass possibly becoming Batgirl again in the comics in some capacity over the next few months this is an exciting time to start posting more and more!
This half of the chapter is where the cast truly starts to expand and would have been the first appearances in person of not only our versions of Huntress and Misfit, but also Dick Grayson. If people are interested in our versions (our Misift is Latino, for example) I can dig up our profiles and extra lore we had assigned to them!
We also introduce in this half an element we were to employ for the comic once Cass got into Gotham and interacted with people proper. As we disliked the trope of the silent poc (usually Asian) character, and the fact that Cass in original canon had to have a metahuman re-scramble her brain to even speak, we simply made the choice to put emphasis on a language barrier and extend that barrier to the reader. I will follow up this post with a breakdown of this particular feature of the comic.
Remember as you read you’ll be seeing character reveals/names that normally would not have been revealed yet to the comic reader and would have been a broader surprise as an effort to include as many underutilized Batfam and Batfam adjacent characters.
Enjoy!

The World Of Batgirl Inc: Cass Pt. II
In keeping with the concept of language barriers being a big thing with Cassandra, for the comic had it continued in visual form we came to the (perhaps unusual) idea that we would be extending language barriers between Cantonese and English to the readers too. Part II of Chapter III would have been the first use of this feature.
Our idea was that Cass, if she is in the vicinity of characters that don't know Chinese her lines would have been written out mostly in untranslated Cantonese characters. I would assume most of our readers would not know what she is saying much like the characters around her. Those who can speak and or read Chinese however would not only understand her but would also be able to see the discrepancy between what she's saying and how people are actually reacting to her. You would also be able to understand her humor and wit a bit more. So yes, readers who are multi-literate would get full context while those who aren’t (myself included) miss out, the way Cass would in actual interactions.
This means in general translation regarding Cass would only occur when:
We are in Cass's mind seeing her thoughts (narrator boxes/thoughts, admittedly more of a Steph feature.)
There are other fluent to casual Chinese speakers present in the room of a near proximity that they may hear her and speak with her ( ex. Her parents, League members like Pru and Onyx, Tim Drake, who is 1/4 Taiwanese in INC, Damian Wayne and possibly Barbara Gordon) implied via <> brackets. This is already shown in Chapter II where all speakers on the boat knew Chinese.
Sometimes if two or more Chinese proficient characters are in a room and are speaking to one another, but there are majority other non-Chinese speakers present, their conversation will not be translated.
Likewise from Cass's perspective, in places where she is present most written language or word say on storefronts or signs will be written out as gibberish as to further emphasize language barriers and her dyslexia and its resulting illiteracy. At times people speaking English to her will also be written out as complete gibberish thus putting the reader in her shoes even further.
Cass thus in comic must use her body language to articulate herself once she realizes people don't understand her; additionally carrying the tradition of her using her hands and movement to articulate but without the need for her brain to have to be zapped by a metahuman in order for her to use words at all.
For comics we believe it would have been somewhat of a bold choice and, potentially, may render many pages essentially unreadable for many western fans. Silent. I believed this would be a way to additionally approach the concept of isolation from Cass’ original canon without resorting to the silent poc (mostly asian) ninja trope as she an entity skirts that line as-is!
As we moved along the comic the idea would be not only Cass would learn English, but everyone else in the main comic will also learn Chinese, something I feel is very important and translation would gradually increase as the story went on and characters learn.
