I am so sorry I didn't get the notification for this ask!! That being said, the fandom has been a nightmare, you are so right, and I am so tired of it lmao

We've learned a lot about Buck and one thing I always found very in character for him (even more now that he's canonically bi/pan/generally not straight) is the idea that he's had crushes on boys his whole life.

New kid at school? He's so cool, he let me borrow a pen and then he said we should go biking tomorrow!! His hair is so nice, too, it's so shiny, and it smells nice! All the girls are in love with him, it's funny.

Two weeks later Buck is all mopey and it's because his new friend has a girlfriend. Like he doesn't even spend time with him anymore, it's so annoying. And she's always kissing his cheek and he blushes and his eyes go all big and anyway I hate her.

This is why Maddie has just been patiently waiting for her brother to figure his shit out, she's known the whole time. Buck's not discreet, he's just incredibly oblivious sometimes

i totally agree with you, and i am also a past buddie shipper, actually! tbh my relationship with buddie the ship and the fandom is much more complicated but yk (gestures vaguely). seasons 2 and 3 were will strong regarding eddie's vibes for me, but i agree, the vibes have been slowly changing for the worse with him. i cannot tell if it's mostly because of RG and his vibes, but i can say that due to The Scandal, my entire opinion on buddie has unfortunately been changed into something negative and it made me feel extremely squicked and uncomfortable to watch OS and RG act on screen. for literal years, i winced at every buddie scene because i could not shake the feeling that OS might feel uncomfortable with RG... obviously, i have no proof of that. as you said, maybe RG is nice and all, i don't know him as a person. however, The Scandal made me lose my trust in RG and any perhaps existing genuine willingness to maybe represent queerness in a respectful manner someday. this is why eddie is soooo het to me now lmfao. also, i will be brave and say it................................... he is a bland character to me. he did not have a single compelling storyline since s3. there, i said it. sorry i am nothing if not a petty hater ig LMAO

I liked Eddie as a character but had some bad vibes that I pushed aside and tried to ignore. Then the whole slur thing happened and I thought to myself that the bad vibes I got are because the actor would probably call me a dyke "as a joke" and his (now ex) wife would be the type to say "oh you're a lesbian? just like don't look at me" and the character of Eddie was ruined forever...

I did sort of ship Buddie for a while, but mostly because I do genuinely believe that Buck is very bisexual and incredibly oblivious to the fact that he has a lil crush on his (very het) best friend
