Ozai, pinching the bridge of his nose: *sighs* Boys?
Ursa: Homicide.
Ozai: Oh! That's good!
Ursa: No Ozai that's bad. Marriage is better than murder.
Ozai: Is it?
Ursa, glaring: You're still alive.
Ozai: Okay, well maybe she can murder first then marry.
Ursa: Murder the guy then marry him?!
Ozai: No! I meant murder as a background. It could be a meet up. A bonding experience.
Ursa: I don't want our daughter marrying someone who approves of murder.
Ozai: Why are we discussing her marriage? Why are you making me discuss her marriage?
Ursa: Fine, you find her a boy she murdered but not quite. One who disapproves of violence but isn't afraid of her, preferably a fellow prodigy, to marry and you do this all last minute.

anyone who follows me knows that i always look deeply into the show’s politics. im not denying that azula did bad things. im not denying that non fire nation people suffered and died for azula’s ideology.
katara and aang and sokka and zuko were all babies, but so was azula. they were all YOUNG CHILDREN. trying to survive in corrupted, violent, abusive, traumatic environments. katara and aang and sokka and zuko were just lucky enough to make it out.
she drove herself insane trying to be what her father wanted her to be, trying to avoid his violence! i don’t understand how yall can have so much sympathy for zuko and even mai and ty lee and NONE for azula. it’s ridiculous and you’re all nerd losers

Zuko craved acceptance.
Azula craved love.
Where Azula was accepted, Zuko was not.
When Zuko was loved, Azula was not.
Both were raised in an abusive household, and both lost their mother. Both had expectations set on them from the moment of their birth, and they both failed to meet them— one failing due to the results of her father’s demanding and damaging expectations, and the other failing because he refused to become like his father and went on his own path instead.
Both committed crimes because they were chasing after the one thing that was not given to them by those whom they valued.
Both despised each other due to their differences, and yet that was what they envied of one another. Zuko’s qualities which made him be loved so easily, and Azula’s qualities which made her be accepted by their father and the rest of their people.
Zuko wasn’t accepted because he wasn’t Azula.
Azula wasn’t loved because she wasn’t Zuko.
They were 2 sides of the same coin— two halves of a single weapon.
“Don't think of them as separate, 'cause they're not. They're just two different parts of the same whole.”
