I would like to know your opinion but I personally really enjoyed Daemon and Rhaenyra’s interactions. The way he lost it about the prophecy (and this tracks with his character because he thinks the ghosts in Harrenal are all an invention), how he gets violent and how Rhaenyra doesn’t even balk and immediately destroys him emotionally. And how the last shot is them holding hands in front of the fire (we were always meant to burn together). Idk I feel like it really embraces the gothic aspect!

personally ? I think it made total sense and I’m glad (?) they had the courage to write it. matt acted the hell out of that moment too : he has his hand around her throat, he’s hurting her but there’s an animal sort of tenderness to the way he presses his forehead to hers. he’s not in control. and just like you said, she goes right for the throat not one second later! she’s saying to him : you’ll act when I tell you to. because ultimately, I was the heir and you never were, not even for a second. I’m the crown. you’re the sword. now get in line! the basis of their marriage always was : ‘we are meant to burn together.’ and that’s exactly what they’re doing! they are companions pushing themselves to the extreme. we saw the companionship, the relief of gothic mirroring - now we’re seeing the violence of it! ‘dreams didn’t make us kings. dragons did’ and he whispers that with a sort of despair because he wants her to see it, he wants her to join him in and wage war because he NEEDS her to need him. nothing has changed between them! and it will never change! the last shot of them in front of the fire summarizes the ambivalence at the heart of their relationship : we see the quiet, loving posture of daemon as he tells her the news. but as ever with them, the news is death and the escalation of violence! war is what brings them together. visenya and aegon to the bitter end!
