Wasn’t there a politician from Namibia named after Adolf Hitler?
//Oh dear Jesus. Yes, I know exactly who you're referring to.
To those who don't know, there's a politician called Adolf Hitler Uunona who won a local election as the councilor of the Ompundja Constituency in 2020.
He told a German tabloid that yes, his father did name him after Hitler but also that his father "likely didn't know what [he] stood for". Uunona himself didn't see anything wrong with it as a child until he learned about it growing up.
He also reassures that he doesn't want to subjugate Oshana (the region he's from) nor does he want world domination.
He goes by Adolf Uunona btw.

CAN WE GIVE A BIG CONGRATULATION TO MISS CHRISTINE MBOMA?
Mboma won 2nd place for Namibia in the Women’s 200m! She’s the first Namibian woman to win a medal!
//If she seems a bit familiar, it’s because a while ago both she and her teammate Beatrice Masilingi were barred from the 400m because of their naturally high testosterone levels. Before anyone say anything, they’re both cisgender. Despite this, they could still compete in other sports leading to Mboma to win silver in the 200m. While disappointed in the controversial ruling, Mboma is happy to have won.
Since I’m talking about this testosterone levels rule, I must say: terfs do not interact with this post. Fuck off <3

//PLEASE CLICK FOR A BETTER RESOLUTION TUMBLR DON’T MAKE ME CRY
Hi!!! I want to go over and give a bit more details about the reference sheet and under the cut, I wanna talk a bit about this blog. Nothing to worry about. Finally got to update her appearance aaaaaaaaaaa-
First, Namibia has small box braids. I know in the past I used to be really lazy and not put in the effort that she does in fact has braids and I’m sorry but I’ll put in the effort now. Here are some videos by black artists on drawing box braids and black hair in general [1, 2, 3].
Next, I wanna go over her canon outfit. As you can see, she has a different pattern than I usually go for. Yeah, so whenever I draw her, it’s always in this style with a simple shirt and a long African printed skirt that I got from here. The pattern I usually draw her in is called Ondelela (2) & is associated with the Ovambo people. I’ll explain more about traditional dresses at a different time, but know that this particular dress is something you would see her wear more often than not but that she has other patterns skirts/dresses.
And finally, just her clothes in general. Something that I don’t think I talk about before is that she tends to wear more lighter clothes. As you can see, all her clothes have lighter colors and, as the name suggest, more on the casual side. Namibia herself don’t really go out of her way to wear the most fashionable clothes. Plus, Namibia can get pretty hot so she would wear more loose and light clothes. She’s real easy-going and her outfits reflect that. I hope so at least.
Hey, so I was thinking about coming back; this blog was really fun and there’s so much more I want to do and discuss. However, I am a very busy and anxious person with college, finding a job, and perfectionism, not to mention my low motivation lol. So to do this, I hope y’all don’t mind very slow updates on this blog because we all know how slow I can get. I just wanna get that out there that yeah, I’m dead but every once in a while, I’ll come back with a little something and go back to being dead. Right now, I’ll focus on updating her bio, pfp, header, organizing the blog, and planning out posts/asks.
Okuhepa! <3

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all y’all.
Have Namibia enjoying some lebkunchen. Yes, lebkunchen. It’s another thing Namibians have adopted into the culture. Aside from eating and drinking tasty, traditional foods and drinks like braais and Epwaka respectively, Namibia also goes to church then spend the rest of her time with family and friends to celebrate Christmas.
She might have made a sandman too since it’s currently summer in Namibia.

What's your favorite type of music? Also is there any song/artist from your place that you'd like to suggest?
Oh you’re really gonna ask the big questions, huh?
My favourite genre has to be Kwaito music. Namibian Kwaito is, as Ees describes it, a “very African-orientated music, party music, feel-good music”. I love dancing hard to it. R&B, Afro-pop, and Reggae are also really lekker. I listen to them quite often too.
As for your second question, I’d like to say
Tumblr media
There’s so many artists that deserves more recognition.
Some kwaito artists are Ees, The Dogg, Gazza, and Sunny Boy.
Some Hip hop artists are Gal Level, Black Vulcanite, and Jericho.
And here’s a few others to look up: PDK, Exit, The GMP, Lady May, Ben Tabeus, Blossom, Jermain Casper, Stefan Ludik, Nianell, Jackson Kaujeua, Ras Sheehama, John Rock Prophet, Michael Pulse, Bedrock (The Band in the Sand), Big Ben.

Hello! I like to bring to the attention of the African elephants. As y’all know, the elephant population is on the decline due to habitat loss, poaching, human-elephant conflict, and the illegal ivory trade.
EHRA stands for Elephant-Human Relation Aid. They focus on conservation for the African elephants in Namibia and even help uplift rural communities who live closeby.
Due to the global pandemic, EHRA has been struggling financially. They have stated that they “cannot survive this year” if they don’t get immediate help. I urge you to donate to the EHRA. Please, it would mean a lot if you donated, even a bit.  Please reblog and share <3

ALL BLACK LIVES MATTER EVERYWHERE.
ZIMBABWE NEEDS YOUR HELP (please read and signal boost!)  there is little to no coverage on this crisis worldwide. Rally for it just like you have for Black Lives Matter in the US, Yemen, Australian bushfires etc.

Namibiavis is known from Arrisdrift in Karas, Namibia
Tumblr media
Physical Description: Namibiavis was a primitive Hoatzin - a group of weirdo birds that only have one living representative, distinctive for its frugivorous diet, smelly farts, visible baby claws, and weird plumage. However, despite showing the extent of Hoatzins in terms of range and their earliest evolution, Namibiavis hasn’t been very thoroughly studied. Still, there are some things to say about it. It had longer and straighter wing bones than later forms, and it had a more splayed apart shoulder area. Otherwise, it seems to have been similarly stocky and chicken-like, as in other Hoatzins. It probably had bright coloration like the living species and similar weird body traits.
Diet: It is reasonable to suppose that Namibiavis also ate fruit and plants, like the living Hoatzin, though without more fossils it is difficult to say.
Behavior: Given that Namibiavis is known from partial remains that are poorly described, it’s difficult to determine what it’s behavior would have been, beyond similar to the living Hoatzin. Given its stronger wing bones than the living type, it’s possible that Namibiavis was still a decent flyer - a condition supported by the fact that it is basal on the Hoatzin family tree. It probably was a noisy bird though, like the living Hoatzin. Beyond that, it’s a guessing game.
Tumblr media
By Scott Reid
Ecosystem: As of now, the environment of Namibiavis is not well known; it seems likely that it lived in a tropical and wet environment, such as a wet forest associated with a river system. It is not known to have lived with any other animals.
Other: Namibiavis is of vital scientific significance - it’s one of the earliest confirmed Hoatzins, helping to understand where this mysterious (and difficult to place) group came from. In addition, it’s presence in Africa helps to show that Hoatzins as a group have not always been just from South America - but rather, from the entirety of the neotropics. This widens the range of Hoatzins extensively, potentially pointing to even more diversity from the group than we even know now.
