i often think about how sonic and shadow's affections. pre-relationship, they're mostly unaware of each other's physical boundaries and settle for fist bumps, occasional saves, and other forms of minimal contact.
but after, sonic discovers just how much shadow likes hugging, especially if they hadn't seen each other in a while. how much he likes kisses, holding hands, and just generally being touchy.
sonic isn't used to it, as shadow didn't seem the type, and isn't sure how to respond at first. he's always caught off guard, his steady sentences lose coherency, and sonic is a little scared.
not because there's anything wrong with the contact, but because this is the most contact sonic had ever received consistently.
yeah, he gets hugs from amy and tails every once in a while. he spars with knuckles, there's bound to be touching. he pets and carries the chao. but it's different with shadow. with shadow, every single touch is deliberate and sincere and full of love and a desire to protect.
even when it isn't deliberate and just instinct ( shadow giving a kiss goodbye, shadow holding his hand while crossing a street, shadow carrying him to safety or medic aid ), sonic can still feel shadow's care. it takes him a minute to fully process and accept.
when he does accept it, though, he gives shadow affections of his own. at first, it begins with reciprocating the touches without the shock ( like sinking into an embrace ), but it slowly becomes sonic initiating as well.
one day, after shadow gives a kiss on the cheek as a goodbye, sonic returns it. silence is between them for only a few moments before shadow becomes a mess and can't form a coherent sentence himself.
turns out, shadow was in a similar boat.
sonic finds comfort in that and laughs as the two hug.

i have a hc that sonic has never cried in his life, so when he does, it physically hurts and he's caught off guard and doesn't think how to think or feel. the stinging in his eyes is uncomfortable, the way his throat closes up aches, and his chest burns with every breath he takes. it gives him a panic attack, as it feels like his entire resolve, the walls he's built to protect others, has cracked and he doesn't know what to do.
in a worst-case scenario, he runs off, away from his friends, because of the harsh wave of shame he suddenly feels. sonic doesn't understand why he feels this way, what even happened to cause this, he doesn't have a clue. he's faced several dangers, so many alone and with his friends, why the hell does it hurt now?
he can't breathe, he can hardly see, and he barely feels his legs. that would send him into a panic the most. why can't he feel his own body? why does he feel out of it?
it'd be the most emotional sonic had ever been, i think, and it throws him off extremely. he tries to get back to normal, to forget that it happened, how awful ( yet oddly relieving? it hurt in a bad and good way? ) it made him feel, but it's always in the back of his mind and it even sends him back into mutism for a while.
emotions are difficult for a lot of people, and they can take a lot of time to fully process.

currently thinking about one fic i wrote where shadow kept referring to himself as "foolish // a fool", because of his romantic feelings for sonic and how they would ( or wouldn't ) make him act around him. and then he told himself he would be a fool no longer when he finally confessed his feelings.
it wasn't even intentional when i first wrote it, but i eventually realized and decided to make it a theme, since i am nothing but a lover for the sad gay dramas. as long as they have a relatively happy ending, of course ( or a bittersweet ending, i can't have a depressing one ).
might use that language again in some of my future fics, cuz i really feel like shadow would refer to himself as a pining fool.

another sonadow hc - sonic keeps getting asked to do errands from people in the city, eventually wearing himself thin, before shadow becomes the most blunt ass motherfucker ever to anyone else who keeps asking for sonic to do smth, all the while carrying his exhausted partner like a sack of potatoes.
person - oh, sonic, could you-
shadow - ( death glare ) finish that sentence, you die.
sonic - ( half-asleep, so his ass is not listening )
shadow generally is polite ( while still sorta blunt ), but when sonic is run ragged, he gets the teeniest bit intense.

i personally find it funny how people seem to think sonic talks a lot and shadow doesn't, but i find it more likely for sonic to not say anything as shadow rants about the idiocy of his coworkers at G.U.N ( not rouge and omega ) or something like that.
while i know it's for character dialogue reasons, i noticed that sonic usually doesn't say anything until someone is done talking and it feels really personal to me, i guess.
i'm gonna blame sonic frontiers, haha

had a sorta fluffy thought of shadow growling at sonic while sonic's smiling with his arms crossed. he growls back at shadow, though his smile remains as he does it. his growl is louder, but it's lighter and might not sound intimidating, since it's all in good fun from his end.
shadow is taken aback, flustered, and never does it again. sonic is confused, but doesn't bring it up.

a hc i have in general is that mobians ( anthros? i don't usually like calling them mobians, but idk ) usually can't talk until they're about 5-6 yrs old, but sonic was a late bloomer and only talked when he was like 10-11 yrs old. a lot of people thought he was just choosing to be a silent little guy, but, no, it's cuz he literally can't talk.
first word he said was "eggman", but in a world both of his parents ( my OCs ) are alive, his first word would've been "fuck", and it's only because his ma was shouting it during a fight with eggman.
in ( most ) other worlds though, here's how it went ( or the notes vers. anyway ):
( character ) - hey, hey, it's okay. you're safe. what's wrong?
