Okay very rough concept of him. I'll pretty it up another day, but I needed him out of my head.
Tumblr media
Been working on this guy past couple of days. I always wanted to make an oc inspired by the red Dominican mountain boa. I always thought they were so beautiful. Anyways this is a dragon that can shapeshift into a dragonborn-esque type. I always loved the idea that wings could be used as cloaks from Gargoyles. I haven’t settled on his marking placement yet and only colored the head area so far. No name yet.
I have been silently working away on job, comms and some personal stuff like outlining and note taking and organizing fantasy headworld a bit for my own personal goals. I don’t have any publishing goals as much as that would be an amazing thing but I just want the satisfaction of starting and completing something that’s entirely mine. Something that’s so deep and expansive that I made and can say I did it.
Shapeshifting is a taboo of sorts in this setting and I’m trying to work on a history between races and such. Dragons used to shapeshift but not as much anymore and potentially forgotten amongst many. But back in the day where some cohabitated and some actually lived as a dragonborn did and there were a lot of interesting conflicts and collaborations and so on.
I’m thinking this guy was part of some war between elves and dwarves and he eventually picked a side which resulted in angering the other and mainly due to him taking an elven bride he falls for.
Not sure on exact details but drama.

Good Traits Gone Bad
Exploring good traits gone bad in a novel can add depth and complexity to your characters. Here are a few examples of good traits that can take a negative turn:
1. Empathy turning into manipulation: A character with a strong sense of empathy may use it to manipulate others' emotions and gain an advantage.
2. Confidence becoming arrogance: Excessive confidence can lead to arrogance, where a character belittles others and dismisses their opinions.
3. Ambition turning into obsession: A character's ambition can transform into an unhealthy obsession, causing them to prioritize success at any cost, including sacrificing relationships and moral values.
4. Loyalty becoming blind devotion: Initially loyal, a character may become blindly devoted to a cause or person, disregarding their own well-being and critical thinking.
5. Courage turning into recklessness: A character's courage can morph into reckless behavior, endangering themselves and others due to an overestimation of their abilities.
6. Determination becoming stubbornness: Excessive determination can lead to stubbornness, where a character refuses to consider alternative perspectives or change their course of action, even when it's detrimental.
7. Optimism becoming naivety: Unwavering optimism can transform into naivety, causing a character to overlook dangers or be easily deceived.
8. Protectiveness turning into possessiveness: A character's protective nature can evolve into possessiveness, where they become overly controlling and jealous in relationships.
9. Altruism becoming self-neglect: A character's selflessness may lead to neglecting their own needs and well-being, to the point of self-sacrifice and burnout.
10. Honesty becoming brutal bluntness: A character's commitment to honesty can turn into brutal bluntness, hurting others with harsh and tactless remarks.
These examples demonstrate how even admirable traits can have negative consequences when taken to extremes or used improperly. By exploring the complexities of these traits, you can create compelling and multi-dimensional characters in your novel.
Happy writing!

Hate to do this but had to bring my cat to the Emergency vet care clinic tonight. He had a ruptured abscess in one of his glands and because of the emergency it escalated the cost and so I am in need of some help. Spread the word and donate even a $1 or $3 (I think that’s the lowest for kofi can go I think if I remember)
I’m full on comms. Might take more but I just don’t want to get swamped or too stressed. Donations are just super helpful right now. I’m thinking I’ll try and do some adopts or ych’s instead first. So thank you. 🙏

I have been seeing this post in my notifications getting reacted to so let's put a bright side to this by giving some tips/advice and if you reblog and know of any tips yourself that you do that may help another please add them. With a desk job that can be mentally draining from staring at a screen all day doing tedious tasks or something challenging, collaborative, and so on, I try to find breaks or slips in between to lean back and turn away for a couple minutes or so then go back to work.
If it's slow enough, I'll sometimes doodle on a sheet of paper or in my sketchbook. I try not to "concentrate" or "aim" to make anything big or grand or something from personal stuff. I will randomly doodle whatever comes to mind or let my mind wander. Sometimes, things don't come out. Course I have to make sure I'm on task at work, but sometimes those little breaks or slow moments in between can be great ways to quickly focus my brain to draw and relieve myself from the tedious computer work.
With writing which is seldom rare, lately I have been making bullet points to some of my stuff for my fantasy world. It has helped a lot and has taken a week to refine, go over, edit and add things I would think of after. When I get an idea in the middle of my work, I'll usually open a post it note and write/type it in to add on later so that I don't accidentally forget then add to my notes.
I'm trying to be better about catching those "idea" moments so that way it's not just floating in the air and I don't write/draw it as it will stay lost or too distant for me to capture right again or that feeling when I initially had it because it's too distant. Little things like that reassure me that they're available when I get back to it and act as a reminder for later and something to tackle again. It's been working, and of course, I'm just way too mentally drained some days, and that's okay. I'll just do whatever to rest and go at it again the next day. If I work hard enough to clear up most of the day with deadzone moments to sneak some stuff then I will. Yes its sneaky and not professional but dammit I do my work, my goals, I perform well, I always put everything away before any customers even come in. I manage it well and am always on top of what I'm doing. I been pretty good and just need that outlet to stay creative or else I suffer horrible burn outs.

All the time. Desk job is draining and brain is empty lot of the time.

It's also a combination of other things that add on to the work burn out. We are in a loop that's literally taken advantage of so many people in this fucked up system/country of ours that we are spiralling. We are overworked. There's so many things to worry about and consider while trying to fight back to gain some ounce of control and individuality in it all.
I have my days and I tell myself it's okay to feel like this. Eventually I'll get tired enough to not want to feel like that and do something about it. One step at a time that'll rejuvenate me a bit. And give me some light for a while then breaks in between.
So it is hard to find some semblance of satisfaction and stability but I'm just waiting for that moment while doing what I can. Just do what feels right even if it's nothing. It's okay to have those periods and grieve in those nothings but at some point you gotta get up off your bum and do stuff to curb that to happen less.
It makes me sad that most people around me are so unbelievably burnt out from work and life that they are just truly emotionally unavailable and don't even wanna use their energy for anything beside going out partying once a weekend
It's like watching friends who you've seen be silly and have deep talks work jobs to the point of stress where they are incoherent and respond to messages like legit 6 days later and not in a rude way but genuinely they don't have the mental capacity to do shit anymore
Working jobs and paying bills shouldn't take everything out of people to the extent it really does
Even when I'm off work and I had a shorter shift most of the time I truly have nothing left in the tank after the combo of emotions and physical labor

Opt yourself out of AI scraping.
Like many sites, Tumblr is opting us in to AI scraping instead of opting us out by default, and packaging it like a kindness. We're not calories to consume. You can opt yourself out in blog settings (per blog you use).
