something about the fact that when azula's lightning is coming towards him and zuko is running for it, he isn't thinking at all about grounding himself, isn't even trying to channel the lightning, he's not even outwardly angry azula has broken the rules, or mad at his sister, he's resigned himself to his fate, just...

it's the betrayal under ba sing se and the fact that azula knew katara and zuko had grown briefly close and vulnerable to one another that makes him taking lightning for her (like specifically katara and not another character) so important. azula aimed at katara because she knew zuko and her had emotional depth to their relationship, she saw it in the catacombs and she saw it again before she challenged her brother to an agni kai. zuko had failed to protect katara once and she damn right knew that he couldn't betray her again

ever think about how katara putting her hand on zuko's scar & touching her thumb to his lips under the crystal catacombs was probably the first time zuko had let someone close enough to touch it after his father had burnt him

my favorite zutara thing is that when zuko asks katara what he can do to gain her trust and she says "oh I don't know maybe you can bring my mother back" he just legit thinks "welp, can't do that so what's the next best thing" and takes her to get revenge
