online communities are so strange because people slip away so easily. you can be on here for years, folding people you've never met into the fabric of your daily life, and then they disappear, leaving only ghost posts scattered across tumblr behind. or their blog stays dormant, for weeks, months, years, until you're only still following them because you remember that they love sunflowers or they were kind to you when they didn't have to be or the last thing they posted was sad and raw and you still worry about them sometimes.
and sometimes they come back when you least expect it, years later, even, and there's this sudden rush of relief like there you are, there you are, even though you barely knew each other.
there's a strange kind of love to it. i don't know you and i want to hold your hand across miles and time zones and oceans. i can still see the imprint of you in this community you left. you don't think anyone will notice or care when you're gone, but we notice and we care and we wish you well.
i hope you're all okay out there. i hope the sun is shining on your face and you are breathing deeply. i miss you.

“I’ve got a job for you. Jones. Take care of it.”
“Wasn’t that Parker's job? How’d he screw up this time?”
“Just get it done.”
Liam pulled up the information, scanning the screen as his plan unfolded in his mind. He hung up the phone, then got ready for the job.

Liam waited in the shadows, in exactly one minute, Jones would walk through that door, and go about his evening routine. He was a witness that needed silencing, and Liam would be the one to do it right.
Still calm, he could feel his adrenaline start to rise. He always loved this part, the part right before the kill, it gave him an odd sense of peace like he was doing exactly what he was made for. Liam closed his eyes, enjoying the feeling as he breathed slowly through his nose, then out through his mouth.
With his gloved hands, he slipped one into his jacket and took hold of his trusty ice pick. There were plenty of weapons at his disposal, but this, nothing compared to this.
Liam counted in his head, three, two, one -

About the AO3 "No Guest Comments for a while" warning
If you're not following any of AO3's social media accounts you might be in the dark as to what kind of "spam comments" have engendered this banner at the top of the site:
These spam comments have been posted about a great deal on the AO3 subreddit for the past couple of days. Initially they comprised a bunch of guest (logged out users) bot comments that insulted authors by suggesting they were using AI and not writing their own fics. Some examples, from the subreddit:
But it then escalated to outright graphic porn images and gifs being posted in comments, again by logged out 'Guest' accounts. Obviously, I'm not going to give examples of those, but between these two bot infestations, AO3 has clearly decided to act and has temporarily closed the ability to post comments for users who are not logged in with an AO3 account.
Unfortunately, this means that genuine readers who don't have an AO3 account won't be able to leave comments on fics that they enjoy.
If you are a genuine reader who doesn't yet have an AO3 account, I strongly suggest getting yourself on the waiting list for one. More and more AO3 authors are now locking their fics down to registered users only - either due to these bot comments or concerns about AI scraping their work - which means you're probably missing out on a lot of great stuff.
Hopefully guest commenting will be enabled again at some point soon, but I suggest not waiting until then. Get yourself on that list.
Wait times are going to be longer than usual at the moment, due to the current Wattpad purge [info on Fanlore | Wattpad subreddit thread], but if you're in line, then your invite will come through eventually.

Summary: Once the single bouquet of lilies between a man and a vampire, Lily now navigates her vampirism and complicated feeling for the one who took her life in his hands.

A Year of Whump- Masterlist

I’m joining this challenge @yearofcreation2023 by @oonajaeadira and writeforfandoms, which sounds so funnnn! Masterlist at the end of the post. Info below.
This year, I’m serving 12 servings of whump, one for each month. With a side of comfort and fluff. Emphasis on comfort! I’m also interested in trying some new characters for me.

Preview: A light at the end of the tunnel

Summary: As Ezra struggles post recovery, Cee plays cupid and finds his lost love.
Warnings: recovery, depression, loss of a limb
An: This is the official end of Arte’s Year of Whump. It was so fun, thank you yearofcreation! I know I missed some months, but glad I could close out December. I love this story so much, it’s open for later expansion. More notes at the end…

Sunlight peeked through the curtains, sending rays of light across the bedroom. This might be the first time he’s woken up before sunset in weeks.
His eyes settled on his new arm. It was still a strange feeling, having a robotic limb. But it did provide a small comfort as the loss of his arm, on top of everything else, sent him into the darkest place he’d been in years. Ezra told himself, he didn’t need a replacement, he would learn his way with one arm, and be just fine. He’s a man who weathered many storms. But he found his phantom arm haunted him. His mood, his self-esteem, and his sense of purpose all plummeted.
Ezra sat up with a groan and followed the scar on his torso with his eyes. Sometimes he could still feel that jab, sometimes he woke up in a sweat thinking it was happening all over again. He’s endured worse, he’s gone toe to toe with no hesitation with some of the meanest, more dangerous men and beasts one could face. Still, the events on the Green haunted him the most. Sometimes he could still hear that disturbing music in his ears.
Ezra died twice on that noxious moon; when he lost his arm, and when he was stabbed. But he was revived too. Cee, bless her heart, dragged back some version of him to civilization, a shell of him he didn’t recognize. The price of that job was the highest he’s ever paid; one he was still paying for now.
Ezra coughed as he rummaged the surface of the nearby table, then he found it, the recent letter from Cee.
