Rep. Schiff says committed to strengthening US ties with free and independent Artsakh
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In a message on Armenia’s Independenc Day, Congressman Adam Schiff has reiterated his committment to deepening the ties between the United States, Armenia and, and a free and independent Artsakh.
Below is the full text of the message:
Today, I join with my Armenian-American constituents and Armenians around the world to mark the 30th anniversary of the independence of the Republic of Armenia.
The road to independence has not been easy, but time and time again, Armenians have proven that they are survivors. Having persevered through war and genocide, the Armenian people have emerged from these terrors united to secure a better future for their families and people. In the United States, Armenian-Americans continue to illustrate what an essential part of the national fabric they are with contributions in every field — from government, law, arts and education to science, medicine, and engineering — that serve as an inspiration to us all.
As we mark this anniversary, we must also rededicate ourselves to confronting the continued threats to Armenia and Artsakh, especially as we approach the one-year anniversary of the six-week war in Nagorno-Karabakh. We must do everything we can to bring liberation and peace to our Armenian brothers and sisters abroad.
I will always stand with the Armenian people, and remain committed to deepening the ties between the United States, Armenia and, and a free and independent Artsakh.

Tumblr media
As Armenia celebrates the 30th anniversary of independence, the Library of Congress spotlights the plenty of books, periodicals, newspapers, maps and photographs on the history, politics and culture of Armenia.
September 21 marks the 30th anniversary of Armenia’s Independence from the Soviet Union. The day in 1991 was the second time Armenia declared independence in the 20th century. The foundations of statehood were laid during the short-lived First Republic established on May 28, 1918, before the Bolshevik takeover in 1920.
The Library of Congress has a wealth of books, periodicals, newspapers, maps and photographs on the history, politics and culture of Armenia and its expansive diaspora communities. A significant part of the Armenian-language material is held in the African and Middle Eastern Division (AMED).
The Library has shared an illustration from a book published in Soviet Armenia (1961) depicting Armenian epic hero David of Sassoun from AMED’s Armenian Rarities Collection; a plan of Armenia’s capital Yerevan (1920) during the First Republic from the Geography and Maps Division, and an image of Armenian women sewing shirts for the army (1918) from the Prints and Photographs Division.

“In the three decades since Armenia rejected oppressive communist rule and declared independence from the Soviet Union, the United States and Armenia have developed a strong partnership based on respect for human rights, the rule of law, and democratic institutions.  We appreciate Armenia’s dedication to both these shared values and to its international commitments that play such a vital role toward strengthening peace and stability in the region,” Blinken said in a message.

U.S. urges Armenia-Azerbaijan dialogue amid mounting tensions

U.S. urges Armenia-Azerbaijan dialogue amid mounting tensions
Tumblr media
September 21, 2021 – 15:53 AMT
PanARMENIAN.Net – The situation on a key interstate road in Armenia’s Syunik province makes the need for negotiations and discussions between Armenia and Azerbaijan more vivid, U.S. Ambassador to Yerevan Lynne Tracy said in an interview with the Public Television on Monday, September 20.
Tracy’s remarks came amid months-long tensions on the border with Azerbaijan and the latter’s incursion into the sovereign territory of Armenia since mid-May. In recent weeks, Azerbaijan has at least once blocked the road – which in the aftermath of the Second Karabakh War now passes through Azer-controlled areas – as well as started collecting money from Iranian truck drivers transporting goods to Armenia.
Citing the capabilities of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairmanship, Tracy said the U.S. is also open to other platforms if it can play a role in resolving the situation. According to her, the demarcation and delimitation of the border is especially important.
The ambassador said the process is going to be a difficult one, which will take time and dedicated work to achieve the desired outcome.
Azerbaijani forces violated Armenia’s border in several sections in the provinces of Syunik and Gegharkunik on May 12 and 13 and are still refusing to withdraw their troops from the area. Since then, almost a dozen Armenian servicemen have been killed in Azerbaijan’s shooting, a dozen others have been wounded, while six troops were captured on May 27, although four of them have already returned home.

Iran’s President Ebrahim Raisi has congratulated Armenian Prime Minister and the people of Armenia on Independence Day.
“It is gratifying that in the past years the mutually beneficial relations between the two neighboring countries, the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Republic of Armenia, have progressed, developed in quantitative and qualitative terms. However, in regional and global conditions, the two countries’ great potential has given greater impetus to the deepening of bilateral relations and necessitated the implementation of previously reached agreements, redoubled efforts, the discovery of new areas of cooperation and the strengthening of structural ties between the two countries, especially in the fields of transportation and energy,” Mr. Reisi said in a message to Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.
He said it was no coincidence that the new governments of the two countries started their activity in the same period, and voiced hope that due to the diligence and vigilance of the parties and the efforts of the respective bodies of the two countries it would be possible to reach significant achievements in terms of regional security and stability, and reinforcement of interests of the two friendly peoples.

European Court finds the freedom of expression of Armenian Haykakan Zhamanak daily was violated in 2008
New Post has been published on https://armenia.in-the.news/society/european-court-finds-the-freedom-of-expression-of-armenian-haykakan-zhamanak-daily-was-violated-in-2008-78913-21-09-2021/
European Court finds the freedom of expression of Armenian Haykakan Zhamanak daily was violated in 2008
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In today’s Chamber judgment1 in the case of Dareskizb Ltd v. Armenia, the European Court of Human Rights held, unanimously, that there had been a violation of Article 10 (freedom of expression), of the European Convention on Human Rights, and a violation of Article 6 § 1 (right to a fair trial).
The case concerned actions by State authorities during a state of emergency following a presidential election in 2008, during which the applicant company was prevented from publishing its newspaper, Haykakan Zhamanak. It also concerned the court proceedings that followed.
Armenia’s incumbent Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan was the editor-in-chief of Haykakan Zhamanak daily at the time and held the post until 2012.
The Court found in particular that the restriction on publication had had no purpose other than to limit criticism of the Government and had thus gone against the core of the right to freedom of expression as protected under the Convention.
It furthermore found that the Administrative Court’s refusal to hear the applicant company’s case, claiming jurisdictional issues, had specifically denied the applicant company access to a court.
The Court ruled that the respondent State is to pay the applicant company, within three months from the date on which the judgment becomes final in accordance with Article 44 § 2 of the Convention, EUR 9,000, plus any tax that may be chargeable, in respect of non-pecuniary damage, to be converted into the currency of the respondent State at the rate applicable at the date of settlement.

Armenian President calls for unity, awareness on Independence Day

Armenian President calls for unity, awareness on Independence Day
Tumblr media
September 21, 2021 – 13:08 AMT
PanARMENIAN.Net – President Armen Sarkissian on Tuesday, September 21 is the 30th anniversary of independence of the Republic of Armenia, as the country is going through a “critically difficult situation, with many problems and challenges,” such as the aftermath of the Second Karabakh War and the coronavirus pandemic.
“For thirty years, due to various objective and subjective reasons, we have not been able to fully realize the opportunity provided by independence, develop our victory and success. Everything seemed to be there for it, from the dream to the idea, from the excitement to the will, from the experience of the past to the pursuit of the future,” the President said in his message.
“Today, the history of our country, the people, the present, and the future are intertwined. We must learn from the past. At the same time, we must not let the past prevent us from moving forward. We must make more efforts for the future development of our Motherland, Armenia, and Artsakh. But first, we must assess and realize the vital value of an independent state realistically, not emotionally.”
Sarkissian called for a clear national and state agenda, vision and program, which must also guide the country’s actions in contacts with its partners and international relations, in general.
“We need a deep awareness of our national identity and statehood. We need unity to make our Homeland a safe, defensive, strong, and healthy state in all respects. We need patience and awareness to realize that difficulties are temporary, and we can overcome them,” he said.
“We need farsightedness to see new opportunities even in the current situation. We need realism and a revaluation of reality. It is not only the state that needs restarting but also our feeling of statehood and the awareness of the consequences of the possible danger of losing it.
“We must get out of the situation with our heads held high, our backs straight, and move forward: in an atmosphere of solidarity, tolerance, and national accord, with the courage to look into each other’s eyes with dignity, straight, and honestly, with the persistence in renouncing pretense and populism, and taking actual steps, with the aim of making our Homeland, Armenia and Artsakh, secure and prosperous.”
