Sometimes corporate archiving is extremely boring. Today in the archives, I helped a widow dig through bins destined for our offsite shredder to find calendars used by her husband when he worked at the company. Crawled around on the ground, threw paper all over the floor, and cleaned it all up. We didn’t find all of them, but we found several and she was so happy to have help. My job sometimes feel soulless, but today I felt so fulfilled.

the feeling of learning is legitimately so cool. there’s a little whoa sound effect that plays in your brain whenever you read a sentence that expands reality for you a tiny bit

Still alive. Still archiving. Except now I’m working at a law firm in the pnw.
Upsides:
-money
-significantly less penises in my day to day work

at my job we have to go through a training program that teaches us the library of congress classification system, and when i was first being trained my boss started to boot it up and she gave me a really anxious and guilty look and said “listen, i’m really sorry in advance, there’s nothing i can do about this, just…. just try to get through it” and i was like lol what’s she talking about and then the program loaded and i was greeted with a deliriously funny-looking photoshopped wizard with glowing eyes pointing at some intro message like “AH YES, JUST AS THE PROPHECY FORETOLD… APPRENTICE, YOU COME AT A TIME OF MOST DIRE NEED… YOU MUST LEARN OUR WAYS” and my boss just looked at me helplessly and was like “i’m so sorry. it’s like two hours long.”
thankfully it wasn’t an elaborate fever dream and i have found screenshots

I sat at my desk and cried while writing my last email to my supervisors, then went to my friend’s office and kept crying. Pulled myself together enough to say goodbye to my boss without crying. It’s not that I’m sad about the job ending, it’s that I’ll miss the people who make that place run and, also, big transitions are really hard.
I applied to volunteer at a wildlife rescue in town and will also apply at a local food pantry. Unless I get a job in the next few weeks, I won’t be moving until July, so it’s time to do all the things I wanted to do in this town but never had time for!
May 8th is my last day working for my current library and, although it has a bunch of problems, I am going to weep like a lil bitch when it's over

Welp. I’m graduated. I cried for most of today. So many things didn’t go to plan and yet so many exceeded my expectations. I really thought I wouldn’t be that emotional, since I graduated with my bachelors already, but this time is different. I don’t know what comes next, all I know is that my time being a student is over.

Submitted my last every grad school assignment last night. Got a confirmation email from my prof/advisor that made me cry. All that’s left now is to graduate and I’ll have two master’s degrees. Holy fuck.

Reading a really interesting article on the immediate and long-term effect of the algorithmic censorship during the porn ban on this lil hell site of ours for a class. It's a bit dense, but it's fascinating to see that era distilled so academically and read "cherish the tiddies" in a published paper.
It's open access, if you're curious! https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/full/10.1177/1461444820979280

The paper is for my class about Intellectual Freedom, if you’re curious. I’d love to know your thoughts!!
Just out of curiosity (and because I’m writing a paper about it) what do y’all think about algorithmic content moderation? For or against?
