imagine having a little garden where you grow strawberries for your cakes and cucumbers for your sandwiches and you have tea with your partner every midmorning.  you plant each other’s favorite flowers and give each other bouquets. thats the life.

“i look at you and feel like a future where we live with our rescue pets and greenhouses. painting our bedroom the bluest of blues because i know it’s your favourite. i’ll spend all my time finding ways to fill up your life. to hear your soft sighs at sundown. to find your books left by my nightstand. listen to raindrops bumping onto rooftops, with your head that rests, always, in the crooks of my shoulder.”

a dining-table in a dining room set with four chairs. a starched tablecloth embroidered with roses. armchairs in the sitting room placed around a small wood fire. our house is modest - nothing fancy, no show - the kitchen small but with everything we need. we eat rice and peas on weekdays with grilled chicken and corn. on weekends the kitchen smells like a buffet of roast meats and vegetables and hot soup bubbling on the stove. you fix the roof that leaks and the creaky board on the verenda. i sip lemon tea by an open window and look on at the golden horizons that stretch. there’s a horse that strolls by in the cold evening, passing over daffodils blooming with all the colours of a brilliant rainbow.

i know he curves your lips into a smile and your heart feels safe inside his steady palms. but you have parted ways for a reason. you are a gem of a woman and you will find someone who makes you feel like the lightest element, brighter than any sunrise, like a kite running loose in the wind, you will - but it’s just...not going to be him.

when it's time for you to leave this dunya
that wounded you with its bitterness
may you declare your faith one last time
before your soul enters the realm
before your soul meets its Home
before your soul peacefully finds refuge
with The One who heals all pain

Thinking about how ertugrul said, “be the sultan of my heart, the mother of my children and my companion til the end.” And then halime said something like “how can I be your sultan when I couldn’t even be the sultan of my own palace”.

i can't wait to grow old with you. a cottage in the countryside, gentle smiles and kisses on the cheek, tending to our garden. we can sit on the porch and watch the sunset, fingers softly intertwined, silhouettes bathed in the golden light.
