Found on twitter. The best advice on getting into the Gundam series. Especially if you’re someone like me who at first found the serious not that interesting.
is it just me or is the #allcountriesmatter thing really... bad? Like, I feel like it’s inappropriate to take language used by racists and then shoe-horn it into something that doesn’t really make sense just to try and “own the repubs”
I mean, the 4th of July is a stupid holiday that is just used to glorify a crappy country that has systemically oppressed anyone who isn’t a well-off straight white cis person. But I don’t think anyone has ever used the 4th of July to imply the same message about America that the term BLM invokes for the black community.
Just like making a shirt that says “Dog Lives Matter” or something is inappropriate because it takes an important message used to bring awareness to the systemic killing of a marginalized community and boils it down to some slogan applied to something that it wasn’t meant for, I feel like saying something like “All Countries Matter” is inappropriate, even as a joke, because it takes this language that has been used to silence voices and tries to legitimize it in a way just to try and make conservatives mad...
I dunno... I mean, obviously I’m not black so I don’t have much authority over what is or is not appropriate when it relates to this stuff, but I feel like, if for example a bunch of cis people started tweeting out #Country Critical or something and started to co-op TERF language and mapped it onto something that doesn’t make sense just to “troll epic-style” I, as a trans person, would feel pretty uncomfortable.
I feel like we should use our time to signal boost important matters relating to the protests, BLM, and the history of minority identities, not just trying to (poorly) own people online.

It’s incredibly adorable and I love it.
I'm super early in the series, but so far it is such a good series. Honestly, Gundam Wing was a bit of a disappointment but Turn A was so unique, looked beautiful, and had an amazing soundtrack (Century Color is one of the best anime ops ever). Plus it has a gender-queer POC as a main character and how often do you get that kind of representation in an anime let alone a mainstream anime. This show is super underated and it 100% deserves your time.
Likely because it came right on the heels of the widely popular Gundam Wing, Turn A Gundam was considered a disappointing flop. Which is a shame because it’s an incredible series with top notch animation, super cool character design, awesome mechs and a very fun story*. Plus it’s main protagonist is both a person of color and (sort of) transgender. It’s hard to find, but definitely worth searching for. Highly recommended.
*granted, the copy I watched didn’t have subtitles so I could only sort of tell what was going on in the narrative, but it was still crazy fun to watch.
