tried to say this on twitter but the character limit makes me go insane so

i’ve noticed that these days 2-D is written as very babyish and I’m not a particular fan of it. Genuinely, it’s hard to find a recent occasion where he’s discussed something that wasn’t snacks, or toys, or socks. it’s off-putting and feels like flanderization. which is an amazing feat considering 2D is so, so simple and easy to write, you’d be hard pressed to fuck it up!

like, for comparison’s sake: in phase 2, 2D is a bit strange and spacey and simple-minded, yes, but he’s also a ladies’ man with illegitimate children, plenty of vices, interesting hobbies like horror films and tinkering with electronics (and monster trucks!), and more importantly, the autonomy to go off on his own and do his own thing while the band isn’t together. he’s a little vulgar without meaning to come off as malicious and it’s as infuriating as it is charming.

in more recent years, 2D talks about ryvita and curly fries and losing his toys and wearing socks, he talks about people politely telling him to go away without seeming upset by it at all. i can’t think of much more that he has done beyond that. which is astounding because phase 5 was supposedly all about him finally having autonomy beyond murdoc’s control! and they threw it all away! all we got was a few gentle jabs about him calling murdoc a “really annoying dinosaur.” you know, as opposed to the times where he has told him to fuck off and called him a tart and gotten into physical altercations with him.

tl;dr please write 2-D like an adult he’s not a #sweetboy #angel he’s 41 years old and he acted older when he was in his 20s

I’m not ready for the new Debunked with Murdoc to completely throw away any chance of character development and lore but I know that’s exactly what’s gonna happen... he’s definitely gonna say something stupid about how he wasn’t really upset or whatever. I’m kinda sick of everything being turned into a joke with him, I want like actual serious character development.
