Their parents buckled them into car seats
Zipped them into tiny coats, and then coats a little less tiny, and a little less, as they grew
Bent low to fit shoes onto their feet
And put them back on when they came off, and back on again, and again
Cut grapes into pieces so they would not choke
Rubbed sunscreen on their little arms as they squirmed to run and play
Taught them to swim, to look both ways before crossing the street, to wear a helmet
How to stop, drop and roll
How to call 9-1-1
Their parents, or their grandparents, whoever they had who loved them
Did everything they knew how to protect them
And all of us who deep down do not believe, cannot believe, that it could ever be us
Be ours
What have we done that they did not do?

Crouch: the famous ex-Auror who put away tons of dark wizards and is notoriously paranoid and jinx-happy
Voldy: yeah him
Crouch: whose literal motto is "constant vigilance"
Voldy: yep
Crouch: who booby-traps his house like Kevin from Home Alone
Voldy: that's the guy
Crouch: could I maybe just hide in a bathroom at the Three Broomsticks in Hogsmeade and capture like Professor Sinestra or something
Voldy: absolutely not
Voldy: then you'll be in at Hogwarts
Crouch: and I'll bring you Harry Potter?
Voldy: whoa whoa whoa
Voldy: let's not get ahead of ourselves
Voldy: first you're gonna teach teenagers for an entire school year
Crouch: I'm going to what
Voldy: then you make sure that Harry wins the Tri-Wizard tournament despite being three years younger than the other champions
Crouch: . . .
Voldy: and when he wins - wait for it - the Tri-Wizard Cup is a portkey!
Crouch: are you open to suggestions about this plan at all

history is fucked up and it sucks because all the people in it who had great viable werewolf names weren’t werewolves. like what the shit. if you knew nothing about history or literature i guess or whatever you’d see names like “virginia woolf” and “oscar wilde” and be like. ah yes. these are definitely some prime secret werewolf poorly masquerading as human intellectual situations? but neither of those people were real live werewolves, factually speaking? they did not take advantage of that opportunity. and i think we are all worse off for it actually
