Mina’s Recs (Season 4 trailer angst special)

Hi again! In light of the season 4 trailer coming out tonight, I wanted to do one final rec list before I kind of disappear from tumblr for a while (because I want to watch the premiere spoiler-free and that means being away from my dash because I can’t risk any details being spoiled for me). And after that, I start university, so I’m sure my rec lists will be more sporadic. So yeah. I know it’s a Friday, but here are the last recs I will do for a while, and because it’s the last one, it’s a bit longer than usual too. :)

Party Favors by @rosietwiggs (Toliver) – ahhhhhhh, I ADORE drunken Toliver so much. Just. Wow. I can totally see this happening – Tommy being rejected by his crush and Oliver comforting him. I love Tommy’s vulnerability here and how he so easily lets out his insecurities to Oliver. And I love love LOVE any story where best friends become something more, however fleetingly it might be.

Postcards and Promises by felicitybarry (Olicity featuring Barry) – I recently rewatched 1x23 of The Flash, and when I did, I remembered this fic. I love this insight into Barry’s head, which admittedly I haven’t really sought out much in fanfic, and especially the way the Flash has become a brand – to the point that Oliver and Felicity were able to find a postcard with a lightning bolt on it. :D Also, the way Oliver was actually making jokes on the phone to Barry is just glorious, and Felicity’s double entendres were the best. <3

Staccato by anonymous033 (Black Assassin) – I’m not usually into AUs, but there is something I just love about Laurel and Nyssa together, especially when they’re characterised like this. I love Nyssa’s speech patterns, how she’s kind of weirdly posh and it’s super endearing. <3 In a sense, this fic kind of mirrors the show, in that Nyssa is Laurel’s trainer, and the “don’t forget to turn your hips” remains one of my favourite Nyssa lines. :) And I’ve always said that one of Laurel’s best storylines was her addiction/alcoholism one, and it was great to see how that was explored in this fic.

“Now, this time, kiss me like you actually mean it” by padawanparent (Olicity featuring Tommy) – I will never have enough of Olicity fics that feature Tommy in any way. I love the idea that Oliver and Felicity were meant to be an undercover couple, and I can totally see Oliver being a total douche to Felicity in such a situation and Tommy calling him out on it. And, of course, I automatically love any story that doesn’t kill off Tommy in the Undertaking. :D

First, Do No Harm by kaleidoscopes-and-carousels (Nyssara) – DO YOU KNOW WHAT NYSSA AND SARA SAYING THINGS IN ARABIC TO EACH OTHER DOES TO ME? It makes me weep little OTP tears, that’s what. This is wonderful, and I honestly don’t know why it doesn’t have more notes, because this author is incredibly talented when it comes to Nyssara. I love how Nyssa justifies the League’s mission to Sara. And I love the way Sara tells Nyssa how she feels about her – it’s just so beautifully written.

To Ease the Ache by gnimaerd (Black Assassin) – oh God, all the feels! I love this fic. I love how this story is all about comfort. It’s about both Laurel and Nyssa wanting to be close to Sara by being physically close to each other, and that just breaks my heart. And again, I absolutely love the way Laurel’s alcoholism is never brushed aside or forgotten and how it ties in to the story in the end.

Taer al-Sahfer by biracialhalsey – duuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuude. To this day, this remains my favourite ever Arrow fanfic poem. It’s no secret that I freaking ADORE Laurel Lance, and good God, this was such a beautiful homage to my pretty bird. I love the imagery of the canary’s wings and also the fact that this gorgeous poem addresses the fact that Laurel does have demons, but that she is a hero in spite of those. Just. WOW.

Extra Base HIts (nsfw) by machawicket - definitely up there as one all-time smutty Olicity faves. To steal a phrase from a friend - holy sexual situations, Batman! I may have had to take a shower once I was done reading this, hehehe. Macha describes this as PWP, and sure, it’s super smutty, but it’s also super HOT, and I honestly felt like the intimacy in this fic and the trust I could feel between Oliver and Felicity in this was just as deeply felt. And the whole thing with the jersey and all the baseball innuendoes… I LOVE IT.

That’s it for fics. Onto graphics. I have been on a Nyssa kick lately, as I’m sure you can tell, and this one by nyssabarry is wonderful. I love how Nyssa’s journey has been explored in each step of the graphic and how much she has developed as a character in season 3. Such prettiness.

Then there is this lovely Sara Lance tribute by caitlinstorm which is just beautiful in its black and white glory and, in addition to showing all the different ways characters mourned Sara, makes me super excited for Legends of Tomorrow and Sara as the White Canary. :D

And I also was going through my “pretty” tag, and this one came up. And whoa. This 3x20 Olicity graphic by solitude-am-i is super sexy and gorgeous, especially in terms of colouring.

I also found this lovely graphic based on 3x21 by beemichelle7 which again is just beautiful. It is also super painful seeing Oliver as al-Saheem, knowing it was all a ruse. So much lovely angst.

Next up is this beauty by fallingmeleth that I love, using one of my favourite Felicity lines and incorporating a lot of really lovely images of Oliver and Felicity and Diggle.

Lastly, I have some lovely videos for you all. The first is possibly my favourite EVER Arrow video by iforeveryooung, which spans over the three seasons and is basically the epitome of all the family themes in Arrow. I love the way the vidder explored the characters’ relationships and how they grew as characters over the seasons. Complete and utter gorgeousness.

Then there is this Toliver video by sayaxsama that is just heartbreaking and set to one of my all-time favourite songs. I love their friendship so much and this was such a wonderful homage to Tommy and Oliver.

Then there is this Olicity video by andrajacsi, which is such a beautiful montage of what I can totally imagine Oliver and Felicity’s road trip to be. I’ve always gone on about how much I love Olicity road trip fic, but I also LOVE road trip videos, apparently.

And I also came across this wonderful video by foreverxyoungxwildxfree which uses Stephen’s amazing Green Arrow speech really quite beautifully to describe Oliver’s journey as a hero and is definitely up there with my faves.

Last (but by no means least) is a gorgeous Olicity video by @jbdolicity that quite literally tugged at my heartstrings in all the right ways. Just. Wow. So many feels induced by all my favourite moments and all the great parallels struck by this one.

That’s it from me. Once again, this will be the last rec list I do in a while, at least until the season 4 premiere. I’ll still be writing and if you tag me in anything non-spoilery for the premiere, I will totally read/reblog it. Outside of that, though, this is probably the last you’ll see of me in a while (in fact, I’m already seeing most of my dash is blacklisted with some variation of “arrow spoilers”, lol).
