i changed my profile picture to an image of menhera chan, an animanga character. i won’t lie, i didn’t know who she was until my friend told me. i just thought it would be a cute profile picture and had a cozy, comfortable vibe. and i would love to be wrapped in a blanket drinking hot cocoa right now.
this is a confessional “vlog” that victoria garrick posted on tiktok as a part of her series about intuitive eating. it’s confessional because she is very open about how she eats in order to encourage a healthy relationship with food. for her followers who also know her history with eating disorders, it’s even more confessional because she is sharing her journey of gaining body positivity and being comfortable with eating.
this ad encourages viewers to view coca cola as part of their identity by labeling the bottles with words such as “friends” and “family,” and even specifically naming a few. this makes viewers want to be a part of sharing coca cola.
a video about their relationship is very personal and "confessional" because they posted it wanting to not hide anything from their viewers
this insta post revealed a lot about her family and she wrote it during a very vulnerable time in order to support something important to her
similar to the previous media, this is a very personal and vulnerable insta post about her experience as an asian american. this is very confessional because she is sharing specific events to a large audience
i am most interested in trying out visual media such as videos and images because i think it's interesting how they incorporate many elements together (lighting, props, etc) to create a product. i am hoping to try out new forms of media that i am not used to creating.
the idea of "confession" through media is a bit complicated because you have to determine how true the "confession" is. personally, i choose to publically share very few personal things on social media, but i tend to overshare with friends. i try to stay true to myself and what's important to me, though i believe many others may "confess" things with the intention of being perceived a certain way. additionally, as important as it is to consider what people are posting, it is also worth noting what they choose to hide, because some may believe that only sharing your best parts, even if they're true, is not authentic.
