“Probably, but it’s not just mine, is yours too, and every other boring sacred twenty eight.” Alastair shrugged. “I was planning on listening regardless, that you decided to reply to me is completely out of my control, so it’s not just my choices but yours too.”

“Did it ever occur to you that being a pureblood is not as exhilarating once you leave school? I don’t enjoy being told what to do.” Vale said vaguely though knowing that he would understand. “I can tell you are obsessed though, everyone is,” he smirked.

“You mean the talks about war, death and living in a pure blooded world? I’m as into that as I’m into dying young.” Alastair laughed, shaking his head. Talking about the future was just a big no. “No one likes being told what to do, Valerius, but we gotta do what we gotta do. At least you know that when the time comes I’ll be obsessed enough to follow you into battle.”

Scarlett watched him stare out at the wall out of the corner of her eyes. ‘This is off to a great start. He can’t even look at me.’ She thought to herself before rolling her eyes at her own mind. ‘No, you don’t care. This will be called off..’ She told herself confidently. “I don’t think I have to really prove anything to you.” She said crossing her arms over her chest turning towards him. “Besides, I wouldn’t want to make you fall in love with me.”

Had Alastair been more motivated to move he would have already left, but that was not the case, just once he didn’t want to give another the satisfaction. “I hope so, can you imagine actually having to live together? Death would do us apart a lot faster than I can say mudblood.” he chuckled and shook his head. “Are you afraid that could ever happen?”

“The point is, you have jam on your face.” He paused. “Happy now?”

“Very.” he said, running his sleeve over his face until it was covered in jam. “Thank you, maybe you are useful after all.”

“Ugh” Scarlett sighed dramatically. “Can you keep it down? We don’t need anyone knowing about our ‘marriage’ thing. Okay?” Getting married to Alastair isn’t the worst thing that could have happened, but he wasn’t her first choice and she didn’t need anyone knowing about this situation. Convinced she could talk her parents out of the arrangement Scarlett kept on pretending that it didn’t exist. “And I am incredibly interesting, alright?! You wouldn’t know interesting if it slapped you in the face..”

“Yeah, yeah, sure I can.” Alastair rolled his eyes and later fixed his gaze on something other than her. He could either just look at her or listen to her, unfortunately not both at the same time.  What would he do to avoid ever getting married to her, or anyone for that matter. “You saying you are just proves you are not.” he smiled. “Try me.”

“Well, good thing I wasn’t talking to you then wasn’t it?”

"Hey that’s never stopped me from listening to the foul things that come out of your mouth from time to time.”

“If you don’t shut up I will most certainly give it my best shot.” He said with a roll of his eyes. “Are you so obsessed with me that now you follow me around? Or did you get lost roaming the grounds again? You can’t be that obsessed wit me.”

“Sure, but why so serious? Did you get to betrothed so some banshee? I almost did.” He laughed. “Does saying I’m obsessed you give you any sort of satisfaction? Is that what you are missing today?”

Davey began to blush, spotting his wand beside the other boy and shyly walking towards him to pick it up. “Well I’m glad I was able to bring you some joy at least.” He said, his voice a wavering a little with embarrassment. Davey dropped to his hands and knees and crawled a little towards where he spotted his wand, talking to the boy all the while. “I thought I was alone out here, I’m normally alone out here at this time. Why are you here?” He asked, not really thinking of how that might come across. 

“At least but there was no other option. I had to either laugh or roll my eyes and walk away, but that’s no fun.” Alastair said still laughing as Davey went after his wand. “Why should I not be here is a better question. Even snakes have to come out of hiding every now and then. I was bored.” He said, kicking his wand the opposite direction.

“Keep you guessing.” He stated with a grin. “It’s more fun that way. Besides, you’re a smart lad Avery.”

Alastair passed his free hand over his mouth, not finding any traces of food along the way. “Just get to the point.”

“Honestly, it’s none of your business. Can’t a girl talk to a friend without someone listening in, Avery?” She looked away from her blonde friend whom she was venting to about her love life and moved her attention towards the male. “I doubt girl drama interests you anyways.”

"I said I wasn’t listening. I don’t know if you were aware but I’m really not that interested in anything you may have to talk about with other people.” Alastair said and smiled at her before looking away. “It can interest me when it comes from the right person. I may one day marry you but it doesn’t mean you are the right person.”

Narcissa gave the girl she was talking to an excusing look before marching over to Alastair. “You must be beyond daft if you think I would allow such a thing, what could you possibly want anyways? I thought you said I was too uninteresting to spy on.”

“Is that so?” Alastair said, furrowing his brows. It was incredibly easy getting under Narcissa’s skin and if he didn’t take advantage of situation he was going to be left bored out of his wits until dinner. “I do remember saying that, but it’s a new week so why not start over?”

“Very subtle” If Regulus had bothered to put extra effort in the tone could have come off as mocking, as it was with the boy caring very little it just came off bored. “Feel free to keep listening in, you might actually learn something. The professors would be grateful.”

"I like to point out the obvious” Alastair shrugged, tapping his fingers on his leg. Nothing that Regulus said ever moved him, especially since he didn’t really care much for what any of the Blacks had to say. “I’ve learned quite a lot. I know how tune you out, for example.”

“No I wasn’t listening to that conversation.” Alastair said, his smile though saying otherwise. “But even if I was I wouldn’t tell you, so go on, keep talking.” 

The slytherin commons were far too crowded for Alastair’s enjoyment so off to wander the castle he went, hoping not to be disturbed by any off occurrences. He was crossing the grounds when he came to find someone struggling with what he thought was a simple charm. How pathetic, he thought, even if the sight of his struggles did bring him an odd sense of joy. “Long enough to laugh about it until morning.” 

Davey  was out in the grounds practicing his charms homework. It had been over an hour and so far he still hadn’t succeeded. What must have been 100th time the charm Davey said the charm, flicked his wrist and everything finally fell into place. Throwing his arms into the air and allowing his wand to go flying Davey let out a large whoop of celebration. The Hufflepuff, after a little celebratory dance of course, started to look for his discarded wand when he found a body watching him. “How long have you been stood there?”

Alastair glanced at the candy rolling around his feet and then at the boy, laughing slightly as he shook his head. “I do mind, so no.” 

Hugo returned from Hogsmeade and entered the castle with his hands holding too many bags of sweets and his pockets full of candy, humming to himself as he walked towards his common room. That was when one of the bags he held split open and the sweets began to roll around everywhere. “Hey, hey!” he called to the person who was walking before him. “A little help please? If you don’t mind!”
