I like to believe Eli is good at makeup and just, styling in general. Otherwise they have no reason to keep him in the salon with THOSE scissor skills just for his face. I refuse to believe it.

So I'm rereading Eli Jang's backstory and now that I think about it, Heather is kind of wrong.

I know that they were both 15, but Eli had the education of a 2nd grader, he was mentally and emotionally stunted as well. Instead of mentally being 15 it was more like he was stuck at being 7 or perhaps 10 at best.

Heather, though just being 15, emotionally and mentally was a healthy teenager. I know she was a child as well, but it seems predatory now looking back that she had sex with him. She was old enough to know what the act was and what it entailed. She was old enough to know how it worked and that a baby could be produced. Plus she had access to a cell phone and a school library. Probably a laptop as well to do whatever research she wanted.

Eli had no idea. He didn't know what it was. He didn't know how to do it. Going back to him mentally and emotionally being 7-10, he thought that holding a girls hand would make him pregnant. I don't think someone in his situation could've properly consented to doing the act honestly.

He was delayed emotionally and mentally due to trauma and abuse... if they were both on the same level mentally and he was a normal kid then it just would've been an oopsie, but him being in the state he was makes it seem like he was taken advantage of to me. Even Sally herself recognized that something wasn't right with Eli in her words he "didn't know any better" and was "slow," so code words for delayed essentially. Just words for thought. She didn't technically do anything illegal but I think that it was morally wrong. Though because she was 15 she probably didn't think that deeply into it aside from "he's handsome" and "I like him."

Eli’s Redemption & My Thoughts - Spoilers

Nobody asked for my opinion on this but whatever. I feel like Eli’s redemption was too…easy(?)

Like it took Vasco “talk-no-jutsuing” Eli out of being “evil”???? I’m aware that with the recent chapter that Sally had a part in facilitating the beginning of the redemption arc, but come on…

It just feels like PTJ, and Eli/Hostel by extension, are forgetting that need MONEY to keep things afloat. Like “believing” in your friends is cool, but bills aren’t fun and games.

Maybe it’s cuz I’m a fan of character corruption and dark plot points but, it was clear that Hostel was receiving a good chunk of change from Eli & Warren’s work. Obviously at the expense of both Eli and Warren’s health, but a DECENT FUCKING WORK SCHEDULE could’ve mitigated any more physical damage. All I’m saying is that, have Eli stay as antagonist would’ve been great.

I can’t say that PTJ is afraid of writing villains, cuz it’s clear that he isn’t lol. Idkidk.

however crystal validating his efforts at being an actually good parent, was definitely wholesome. eli very much needed that assurance during the god dog arc, when he was taking care of yenna all alone without his hostel family... like they have potenitial, but ptj doesn't explore it however

hey anonie!!! sorry for the awfully long wait. thank you for the ask and hope you enjoy. fem daniel and the ansan arc? HELL YEAH, let’s get into this

- starting right off with daniel and eli impersonating the runaway fam while looking like runway models… the inspiration for eli's fit in the comic was from a popular kpop boy group member, so i want daniel to be dressed like a kpop girl group member! personally i see her dress like the blackpink girls (especially lisa and jisoo!)...

- it would be so much fun to see daniel and eli bickering here as well like in canon

"eli jang. istg if you get angry."

"i am as calm as i could be. i haven't thought about murder in the past five minutes."

"ELI JANG."

meanwhile passerbys thinking they're up and coming models or actors shooting cfs or something lmaooo

- so the gross human-chair-stress-interview thing with darius probably wouldn't happen if daniel were a girl, because well. BUT i want to see her escape and kick ass while being tied to a chair like natasha romanoff's action sequence at the beginning of the 2012 avengers movie.

- hudson sees her wiping out back door members and for the life of him, cannot comprehend how a little girl did all that. but he seems the type to hit whatever can hit back, he tries to knock her out, only to be baffled at how good of a fighter daniel is. at this point, if it weren't for his ego, he would be mildly impressed. but just like in the comic, darius takes her down with foul play, and hudson is like. oh well. that's all she had? you guys take it from here.

- darius… umm so he just about to discard the pretty girl then BOOM. heat mode daniel. like the ramifications? just manic laughter everywhere, her dull eyes like pools of stagnant water, ink-black hair scattered across her ashen face, her canine teeth bared in a fiendish grin, bones cracking beneath her bruised and bloody hands…

- hudson goes to take a look at the hell she's unleashed, all while being a conflicted mess. should he be impressed that someone survived his hit? should he be enraged at her for getting up? he CANNOT tell.

- ALSO THE "BEAT YOUR ASS" SCENE WITH HUDSON? like daniel wielding her belt like a whip… the flick of her wrist…a panel of her slim waist… i'm down horrible for her.

- then daniel's like "woah woah you could've actually killed me there! are you crazy?"at hudson. and right in the middle of the fight hudson realises no, he doesn't actually want to be done with her. she's far too intriguing, and he's never seen her kind before. only if they hadn't met as enemies… it was really a shame.

- NONETHELESS he keeps attacking her like in canon and daniel kicks him down the building lol

- HER MEETING TAESOO MA!!! like he’s surprised seeing his student, the sun of ansan, lying defeated by a girl. but he's not interested in the second generation, so he tries to ignore her. but she comments about james lee and he loses it… like I WANT HER TO BE THE MOST INFURIATING WOMAN IN EXISTENCE.

- taesoo ma notices something. the girl is weak… but she acts like a real man. he doesn't want to go easy on her anymore. he will fight her with sincerity.

- but, vasco and zack are here too now. So is DG, who lets them know that he'll take it from here. but as i said, i want daniel to be the most infuriating woman ever, so she just says something like. "who is this ahjussi and why's he here??? he's not needed"

- not be outdone, DG's equally annoying smart-ass replies with "jagiya what are u talking about we just went to the sauna together the day before." everyone freezes for a good moment after which they collectively agree to move on and pretend they never heard that.

- jk. dg's a fossil at heart and would probably scowl at daniel like "THIS KID DOESN'T KNOW HOW TO RESPECT HER ELDERS"

- hudson wakes up to his mentor facing an unknown man… but the beautiful girl- daniel? is gone. maybe that was all it was - a fateful encounter, that he wouldn't be able to forget...

lookism inherently being a tragedy is so dear to me.

the existence of good people who will do good unconditionally (sinu, seongji, daniel's mom, vin's mom) wasn't enough to offset the evil that had corroded their surroundings, their kindness didn't save anyone they wished to protect not because it wasn't enough but because they were doomed from the beginning to fail, and thus fuel their beloveds' rise to infallibility.

that post which goes "the love was there. it didn’t change anything. it didn’t save anyone. there were just too many forces against it" , but lookism.

sinu choosing to help johan only for johan to lose everything eventually. jake choosing to spare olly the torment of living like a thug only for olly to perish more painfully. eli choosing to leave hostel only to end up becoming like the very man he despised, upon his return. seongji rejecting james' proposal to become a part of charles' grand design because he never wanted his kids and those of others to be brought to harm only for vin to end up becoming a murderer. gun choosing loyalty over his closest friendship only to embark on the path of complete, irreversible annihilation and being the only one who survives as everything he holds dear turns to stone...

the tragedy occurs because the person making the choice has been doomed from the very start. it matters not how much they loved because their love was never meant to endure.

every choice they made is irrevocably wrong but ultimately made out of love. these are unfixable mistakes but they happened only because someone cared too much.

The argument about Eli getting groomed was something I was looking out for, actually. But that topic just gets brushed off, like????? And Olly getting raped was never addressed properly. And can we not forget that Danial almost got molested by Darius.

one thing about ptj's writing that always leaves a bad taste in my mouth is sometimes i feel he doesn't completely grasp the issues of abuse and sexual trauma, mostly and majorly for the female characters, but the male characters too.

take for example mira getting sexually assaulted by the cult leader and camp instructor, zoe's transaction with logan, club vivi, vin'mom being raped and killed by the shaman, sujin being abused and preyed upon and sexually assaulted before getting beaten to death by taejin... ALL of this feels so catatonic, almost unnecessary in its cruelty. this is a horrible world no doubt. but whatever he inflicts to his female characters seems to be done purely for the sake of shock value, almost like an indelible grief or hurt or helplessness a MALE character has to overcome in his path to nirvana. it is never shown what the woman feels about her own violation, no impact of it can be seen on her own life before she dies or simply forgets and moves on (kinda telling of the author's attitude towards how victims ought to react...).

then lets talk about the male victims. daniel gets stalked, goo and gun and eli were all minors who trained under a man who unironically touches people's genitals and brags about doing so, olly gets raped, eli gets groomed (i will not argue here about this one), sinu is shown naked often with the woman who brainwashed him. not mentioned in the comic but should be pondered upon is the fact that jake and jiho were in juvenile prison, a place with alarmingly high rates of sex crimes. dg is an idol who deals with invasive fans (sasaengs in real life are legitimately terrifying). seongji and vin were the ritual vessels for a cult. but this aspect of their trauma gets completely brushed under the rug, as if even alluding to it would take away from their strength and uhhh, masculine nature.

much to be thought about his treatment of his own characters...
