I needed some low stress doodles and ended up making little crayon style chibis of all my dinosaurs <33

They ended up as great little avatars for my toyhouse folder lol I have three more dinosaurs that are WIPS, so I'll probably end up adding them later (Spinosaurus, parasaurolophus & dilophosaurus)

How much trouble could one hyena be?? Doodle of my unhinged were-hyena Ryder I needed to get out lol inspired by the cover of 2WEI's song, BURN. Also was just really in her headspace yesterday. I gave myself a challenge to write out her storyline in just 30 lines. Each line couldn't start a new one. And I got it? Finally out of my brain and it felt AMAZING! So much so that I continued onto the next section with Rassa. It makes me happy lmao

Thornebrook Family Tree

Still working on planning for my lil novel idea - today the need hit me to draw out Talon's family :)

Starting with Juno and Oak - the Matriarch and Patriach of the Thornebrook family.

Their family pack is a strong one, most assume due to the sheer size + strength of the patriarch - but in reality Juno is very cunning. There's little that gets by her. Oak is just a big ol squish, especially to his kids. They have both since retired.

Taking over the family is Asher, the eldest Thornebrook son and his wife Elowen.

Asher may be large like his father, but it's his brain that runs the operations. He took over and immediately organized the extended family pack

They have 3 hellacious daughters.

Next brother is Rowan. The strong sarcastic type, he is second hand to Asher and spends most days with a keen eye on the enemy. Is very much his father

Since losing his leg he spends most of his time as a wolf, and has lost exactly 0 ferociousness.

or sarcasm.

Talon is the third son. Taller and lankier than his brothers and is far more like his mother. Which comes with high intelligence, but also quite a cut throat attitude.

He leads the charge in research & intel for Asher, and begrudgingly stays out of most conflicts for safety...for now.

Finally, the youngest - Laurel. 100% a daddy's girl. Asher sees her as a valuable - when he can get her to focus.

More often than not she's partying, but does take breaks to push her brothers' buttons by setting them up with friends. Neither T or R appreciate her hard work.

All in all, they're a pretty happy lil family unit. Oak is endlessly supportive and ready to do anything for his kids or grandkids, while Juno does most of the thinking and planning. Although don't let her general air of "these emotions are beneath me" fool you, she'll be planning out the best way for her husband to remove your head without aggravating his heart.

The pack is made up of a few cousins and extended relatives, but for the most part they're all more condensed down to the main family.

I did it! It’s been allot minute since I could draw a human I liked but damn! These two Talon + Sable are mains in a story idea thats taken hold of me lol Werewolf archaeologist & his Witch bodyguard ;) I've written up a whole book plan& a hand full of drabbles - I love them

Talon is on a hard quest to engage his people with open culture, one his family head deems dangerous. enough so to hire a witch skilled in protection- Sable who just wants to learn a bit of every magic discipline. And of course, being hunted by a cult of conspiracy theorists :)

This comic came out this week while I was spiraling through that literal mindset, complete with tears and rage lmao

I went to the doctors to finally get a start on discussing my fertility and family planning - only to find out I instead have PCOS.

It was such a kick to the guts, here I had been holding out until I had a good job, savings, the right partner - and it's suddenly exponentially harder.

Bright side / unfair side; all my fertility markers are great. Excellent even for a 30 year old. It's just the rest of it that's misbehaving and wants to throw my plans into shambles. o|-<

So instead of actually getting to start trying like we wanted, I now have to make some big lifestyle changes, change my diet, and even then - HOPE it actually works. If it does? I still have 3x the chance to lose it. I'm stubborn and determined, but thinking of the emotional and physical heartache I have in my future just pulled me all the way down this week.

So this comic is hitting me right in the heart, but also in that feral side of me that refuses to lose. My heart is hurting but damned if I'm going to lay in a puddle - if it wants to take me down it'll have to take me screaming.

You can do it! (Throwing a little tantrum along the way never hurt)

Finished painting up some sketches over my lunch <3 Been listening to a lot of Colter Wall and the Rassa vibes are immaculate. He's in a hat so often I've never played around with how he'd look without it, so working through that lmao Just a tired lion man.

Arthur Morgan, Cullen Bohannon, and my husband (particularly how his glorious beard sits) has helped figure out his face proportions greatly lol Still working on him though, one day I'll get back to drawing him in entirety...maybe even a proper ref lmao

It gives me so much joy that people have the same reaction? I have gone and seen this boy, just about every year since he's come out. (sometimes more than once a year)

He sits in the very center of the room in a tall glass box. Iron marks out the pieces missing. A podium style infographic sits in front and tells the insane story of how he was found. How, if the foreman hadn't been to the museum in the previous few weeks - he would have never known to stop the digging that destroyed the back half.

There's also a cast of borealopelta's head sitting outside the glass box, for one specific reason - so we can feel the texture of that skin and those scales. To give him a little pat on the head like he deserves.

They've included new plant matter in their fossils in focus exhibit that may match the food found in his belly.

It's such an incredible thing to think about, and seeing it is a whole other experience. I really really hope you get to see him eventually, along with all the other incredible pieces found throughout the museum.

as a huge fan of paleontology, that one borealopelta fossil makes me so fucking emotional. just look at this

this isn't just fossilized bone. this is a fossilized body. it looks less like a several-million-year-old specimen and more like a living, breathing animal that simply fell asleep.

also of note, this particular fossil was preserved in three dimensions, rather than having been flattened over time like the majority of fossils that you would typically find. a lot of specimens look more like an imprint than anything else. but this has depth, and volume. and its so detailed that researchers have been able to determine its skin color based off the compounds found on the surface.

idk it just really makes me want to burst into tears. so much of paleontology relies on making inferences from bones and a variety of trace fossils, and there are likely several details about prehistoric fauna that we simply don't know because they dont fossilize well, and fossilization is already an incredibly rare process as is.

for example, if spiders all died out before humans ever saw any, and all we had left were fossils, would we know they spun webs of silk? would the spinnerets be enough to tip us off?

there are so many things we still don't know about prehistoric life, and likely never will know because it wasn't preserved. can you imagine how many species we just don't know about because they never fossilized?

but here, with borealopelta, we have such a well-preserved specimen that it looks as though it could wake up at any second. It just makes me feel something inexplicable.
