The Last Unicorn Review
5 stars. So good. Obviously a book and movie are two separate entities, but the movie followed the book very closely which made me happy. There were some changes, but I don’t feel like the movie took anything out that was important.
The book was fantasy heaven. I personally don’t mind fantasy, so it was great for me. I loved how we got more insight on charachters and scenes were more in depth then they had been in the movie.
There were also good points that got brought up. I can’t recall many of them now, but definitely Prince Lir’s quote about loving who he wants to, which yes was about a unicorn, but still brings up a good point in today’s time.
I recommend this book highly, and am having trouble writing a proper review because I loved it so.

“‘Sing to me,’ she said. ‘That would be valiant, to raise your voice in this dark, lonely place, and it will be useful as well. Sing to me, sing loudly—drown out my dreams, keep me from remembering whatever wants me to remember it. Sing to me, my lord prince, if it pleases you. It may not seem a hero’s task, but I would be glad of it.’”

“I am no princess, no mortal, and I will not go. Nothing but evil has happened to me since I left my forest, and nothing but evil can have become of unicorns in this country. Give me my true shape again, and I will return to my trees, to my pool, to my own place. Your tale has no power over me. I am a unicorn. I am the last unicorn.”

“He was the color of blood, not the springing blood of the heart but the blood that stirs under an old wound that never really healed. A terrible light poured from him like sweat, and his roar started landslides flowing into one another. His horns were as pale as scars.”

The Last Unicorn was a movie I grew up watching and is very nostalgic to me. It only seemed fitting I picked up the book. I’m about forty pages in and so far it’s very similar to the movie, but I’m not complaining :)
