the difference between karkat and kankri when it comes to their shared aspect of blood is that karkat, as a knight, will protect and cultivate the bonds between his friends and will form connections with others easily due to his empathetic nature, even if said others are fucked up people in the eyes of others (see: his whole deal with spades slick, the way he formed moriallegience with rampaging gamzee), people naturally come into his orbit, meanwhile kankri being a seer doesnt want to create a connection between himself and others, but he wants to understand and study how those bonds work between people, basically looking outside in on the relationships and forming a list of do's and dont's when it comes to cultivating that connection

in other words, karkats that one motherfucker at the party whos somehow friends with everyone here, no matter their background, and everyone fucking loves that foul-mouthed guy, meanwhile kankri is standing in the corner like a creep and nobody knows exactly what his deal is but he knows what everyones deal is and somehow has knowledge of all of partygoers dirty laundry, even if theyve never seen him in their fucking life

My current Homestuck hot take is more people need to like Kanaya and actually think about her and until then you need to stop writing her. Girl who has so much going on but gets reduced to Rose's wife, passive observer, or hot violent alien girl. I need a special Bechdel test. Can you write Kanaya doing something totally on her own away from Rose while talking to someone without mentioning Rose. You can substitute romantic interest in for Rose if you write her with someone else.

idk how exactly to word this exactly but in the same vein that homestuck fans demonize jane they put roxy on this pedestal of being the perfect angel. except roxy is.. just as much of an asshole as the rest of the alpha kids? obviously her alcoholism effects her in her earlier depictions but like. she still pushes her friends boundaries. she sents that virus to jane that blows up her computer. she constantly hits on dirk despite acknowledging his sexuality and his lack of interest, telling janes secrets to jake with minimal pushing. i love roxy, dont get me wrong, but ignoring her flaws and acting like shes incapable of acting selfish, mean or hurting her friends (JUST LIKE THE REST OF THE ALPHAS DO) is stupid. you dont like roxy if you only like the idea of her as a flawless person.

the bloodcastes in homestuck are so funny like heres this canon system of oppression these aliens have. heres how theyre bigoted with it. btw this only matters for about twenty minutes and the characters who are canonically the Only of their given blood color on their planet (and thereby the Most oppressed or quite literally Training To Be the Empress) are never going to talk about that to anyone else except One Guy and the One Guy is going to be a Huge Douche about it to them. the only hemoist character left by the end of the story is vriska also because everyone else is either A. dead or B. lowblood. no this isn't ever resolved because of the retcons for all we know vriska is still in fact hemoist by the end of the story because most of her character growth was removed
