burdens 'pon burdens --- war threatening to tear asunder the only home he's ever known. and he has a FAMILY TO PROTECT, ones which he's quite sure have more power than he could ever imagine. so, he spent hours training until his palms bled and his wrists felt brittle with each swing of his sword. clive began to see every monster as a challenge; it was the only way he could ever be sure if there was improvement on his end. sometimes he'd manage to overcome a particular creature, others, he'd find himself sneaking back in through the courtyard. like tonight for instance.

he assumed that his dragging steps and hunched over form would go unnoticed like usual. suffering in silence is the ROSFIELD TRADITION and clive likes to keep his troubles and self-loathing to himself. that was the plan set in motion until he reached the balcony and began to rid himself of armor pieces. when he got to his vest, his body annoyingly betrays him from the pain setting in. blood has seeped through undershirt, shoulder gashed and swelling as each second ticked by. within the silence comes a pained cry, shuffling heels from a dark corner, and the whispered offer of help.

once jill steps into the candlelight, clive's expression changes from irritated to one of defeat. she's the only person who is allowed to see him at his weakest, to hold his closest worries and struggles. he can't begin to explain why jill makes him feel safe and at ease, but he'd never turn away from the kindness she always seem to offer. as her small hands come up to cautiously undo his vest, she scrunches her nose at the sight of his wound. before she can protest, clive is already placing a gloved hand over hers. "yeah, yeah... i'll be more careful next time." he murmurs, cheeky grin in tow. she squints in disbelief and clive lets out a laugh. "i'll TRY TO BE more careful. no promises, though."

"i am quite certain you are not the fire imp my father told me to put an end to." as the sun catches the auburn of the man's hair, clive can't contain the small snicker under his breath from a rather inside thought he should probably be keeping to himself, considering the stranger is... well, exactly THAT. still, the boy voices it anyway. " although, given how FIERY your hair looks right now in the sun, maybe you're the imp after all." perhaps the man was the newcomer his father was talking about? or was he lost? what happened to the fire imp he had to kill? it seems like orders were mixed up everywhere.

the  battle  was  a  fierce  one.  the  maiden  was  at  arms  just  as  quickly  as  she  noticed  that  another  would  possibly  need  help.  however,  it  seemed  as  though  he  could  handle  himself.  

she  needs  to  rest  a  bit,  but  not  after  holding  her  breath  after  looking  towards  this  new  companion.  [  he  sure  is  intimidating  ]  “  heya  !  ”  she  says  in  her  natural,  soft  tone.  “  not  really  how  i  wanted  to  make  my  introduction,  but  ..  ” @gainsflora / CONT.

there were CERTAIN REQUIRMENTS when it came to preparing for the ducal tournament that clive tried his damned hardest to follow. one, do not receive any assistance or aid in the hopes of finding out just how durable he was. trying to explain this to jill had been quite the task, but she's relented... FOR NOW. as his blade is deflected from the recoil of a coeurl, he braces himself for a blow that does not land. instead, there's an UNKNOWN MAIDEN that promptly has the boy's back.

in the heat of the battle, it's not long before the beast is slain and clive comes to a heaving halt, brows furrowed and a scowl already forming on his face. HE FAILED. had it not been for the woman, he'd have gashes in the flesh of his chest and who knows what else. clive finally turns once her melodic tone reaches his ears, sheathing his blade upon his back so he can step closer to examine her for any injuries. "are you all right? what were you thinking, you could have BEEN KILLED.." his concern mixes into scolding, brows seemingly more upset than prior.

clive is definitely the type of person that will cause you to stress and worry over his well-being, especially at his teen years. the drive to prove himself, along with his hereditary recklessness, can lead to him biting off more than he can chew.

CLIVE ROSFIELD

The firstborn son of the Archduke of Rosaria. Though all expected him to inherit the Phoenix’s flames and awaken as its Dominant, destiny instead chose his younger brother Joshua to bear this burden. In search of a role of his own, Clive dedicated himself to mastering the blade. His practice pays off when, just at fifteen years of age, he wins the ducal tournament and is dubbed the First Shield of Rosaria - tasked to guard the Phoenix and blessed with the ability to wield a part of his fire. Alas, Clive’s promising career is to end in tragedy at the hands of a mysterious dark Eikon, Ifrit, setting him on a dangerous road to revenge.
