Anne McCaffrey’s work is excellent if a bit dated-you can tell she was an Irish Catholic woman in the sixties and seventies, but it’s not overt. The works done with her son are ok but the things he’s done on his own since are not as good, plain and simple. Sorry bro. My personal favorite was the smaller Harper Hall trilogy, Dragonsong, Dragonsinger and Dragondrums though I’ll note dragondrums was set up by the story told in song/singer and otherwise was rather different. They were designed for younger readers to a degree but they’re also lacking the very slight homophobia of other Pern books. However, her books are great overall for subverting traditional female roles to work *for* her female protags rather than against them.

they’re going out for a walk

Authorities on Wednesday started hauling away 177 lions, tigers, jaguars and other exotic big cats that were found at an animal rescue center in the mountains on Mexico City’s south side.

The federal Attorney General’s Office for Environmental Protection said 202 animals in all, including monkeys, dogs, donkeys and coyotes, were being taken to other locations.

Dozens of heavily armed city police raided the “Black Jaguar White Tiger” animal sanctuary Tuesday after images of rail-thin, distressed and injured lions circulated on social media.

The founder of the reserve told local media that he had rescued some of the animals and that some of them arrived in bad shape.

“It all started with a worker who had been laid off recently and he had lots of video evidence showing abused animals,” Association of Zoos President Ernesto Zazueta told Reuters. “We tried to approach (the sanctuary’s) area at the back, where you can see animals in very bad conditions – animals down to their bones, with mange, maimed, some of them had had their tails cut out, some with bugs.”

Mexico City police chief Omar Garcia Harfuch said the property had been seized “for the crime of improper use of property and mistreatment of animals.”

City police said in a statement that “according to the inspection, the property where the animals were kept is zoned for agricultural or grazing purposes, not for keeping the kind of species found.”

Under Mexican law, private individuals can register to keep exotic cats and other animals in supervised wildlife management units. The facility raided Tuesday appears to have filed such paperwork.

- Michael Gove, another cunt who is hated by all, was going to resign but was sacked instead in what appears to be the prime minister going “you can’t quit you’re fired!”

- government meetings are being cancelled because there is literally nobody in those departments anymore

- despite literally everyone begging him at this point to leave, including his most loyal little evil henchman, prime minister is refusing to resign in disgrace as is traditional for British prime ministers

- prime minister genuinely seems to be in complete denial anything serious is happening

- people are calling for Larry the Cat, no. 10’s chief mouser to be the next prime minister. When asked for comment, he licked his arse on live television

a lot of young girls need to realize that keeping friendships alive gets so hard after high school/uni and that you have to actively nurture your friendships if you want them to last yes even the friendships of 2 decades….. your 20s are so disorienting and trauamtizing no one can afford to take friendships for granted… everybody worries about not finding a romantic partner lets start worrying about being friendless by the time you hit 30

In my state the percentage of teachers leaving the profession in 2022 was 7.2% (up from 4% in 2020). 

As a high school teacher at a fairly calm school I feel like I don’t have room to complain, but I really feel for the elementary and middle school teachers. They’ve always been asked to do so much with so little, and they build the foundations that we add to at the high school level.

This is also why it is critically important to vote in your local elections for school board and your state elections for your education leaders; they play an enormous role is support for students and staff (hourly and salaried positions.) Please vote this year.
