For a second, I want to talk about that upcoming scene where Buck comes out to Eddie. Personally, I don't think this is leading into Buddie, but if you do, that's great! But let's set Buddie romance aside for a moment to talk about the platonic friendship and what this scene is going to mean because I haven't seen anyone mention it.

Buck is going to come out as bisexual to his (presumed) heterosexual best male friend, Eddie. And Eddie is going to EMBRACE HIM on national television and tell him that he loves him and that this changes NOTHING. They are BEST FRIENDS. Buck didn't lie to him. His sexuality doesn't make Buck any less important to Eddie (or Chris') life.

Now think about watching that from the POV of all the heterosexual men who won't turn off their television next week. All the men who, very possibly, have a best friend who is queer, whether they've come out to them yet or not. And they watch this and this makes them realize how important it is for them to be there for their friend when they come out. How this will help them realize they should embrace them and tell them this changes nothing, because it doesn't! It changes nothing! At least it should change nothing. And guys, holy shit, this is so important. As much as we don't get a man in his 30s discovering his sexuality, we ALSO don't get their male best friend embracing and comforting them after coming out!

Do you realize how historic this is? How this is going to help so many friendships to see next week? And Ryan and Oliver are going to absolutely kill the scene. And I am so excited. I am so exited to be back in a place where buddie's friendship matters. And, honestly? It matters more than ever.

also love how buck easily could’ve just said “listen you don’t have to tell me how great eddie is” and left it at that but instead we got a whole paragraph about how he’s so amazing and of course anyone would die for the opportunity to be his friend and i’ve known all this since the day i met him

Wanting buddie is not diminishing the importance of Bi-Buck and yes without buddie still great representation with just bi-Buck however how many shows have had this connection usually two same sex characters that should 100% be together but never are? Like buddie would literally make tv history with a slowburn/friends to lovers same sex couple. So people suddenly not caring about buddie at all look at the bigger picture….yes this representation is amazing but it could be even better. It’s the thing so many shows have been too scared to do, but right now we are like basically half way there. Heterosexual relationships get it all the time and I genuinely believe if 9-1-1 goes for it. It will open doors for other shows to realize hey we could really do this. Then even making more beautiful relationships and representation. Because I don’t know about you but same sex couples shouldn’t only be pre established or quickly established. It would be so nice and rewarding to get to see the characters get to know each other and slowly fall in love even if they don’t realize it’s happening for a while.
