The Bickers Action guys arrive on set with the SuperTechno 50' crane making the interesting angles possible. These guys had worked on them all from BBC's Top Gear through to Pirates of the Caribbean and for this week Storm City 3D in Teeside :P

Time for something a bit different and also time for a long overdue update to my tumblr. This was from back in March 2012, we were shooting a Sky 3D documentary called "Storm City 3D" with Ben Fogle up in Teeside. It was 0*c in the morning and 25*c by 12pm, the weirdest of March's. What you can see in the pic is the PFX Atlas Red One 3D rig with 15-40mm compact zoom.

Down the Bee Hive at the Bigg Market, Newcastle filming for the Brown Ale commercial. We didn't have any background artists or actors at this location so we offered to buy a pint for a few of the locals, job done :)

Another one of the locations for the Brown Ale commercial, even though this wide shot shows you we're in Newcastle this will end up being York in the advert. The dog is now brewed over in Yorkshire as the breweries up here were decommission some years back. The camera was situated up on the roof of the Castle Keep behind me doing a birds eye view of the outside of the pub.

Down at this years Focus on Imaging and I saw this beauty. I know it's a field camera but apart from that and the name badge I don't know much more about them. I'm guessing it uses plate film like 5x4 but one thing I do know is that it looked and felt amazing and cost about £10k. In a more realistic note I also got to have a go on the new Nikon D4 which will be no doubt my next purchase!

Working on a BBC2 documentary about big machines and how they work here at Seaton Sluice beach. It's going to be on later this year straight after Top Gear on a Sunday. I was doing 2nd camera on the 7D, not the nicest of cameras to work with, mainly because of the crap lenses and lack of a rig but it got the job done.

I love prime lenses! I know that sounds a bit odd but once you've used one you'll never want to use a zoom again. I've got the 24-70mm F2.8 Nikon wide zoom but these bad lads wipe the floor with sharpness and speed. Pictured are the 24mm F1.4 and 85mm F1.4, I got to use these the other week at the Unit-44 'One Year On' party thanks to Reid Ingram Weir. You can see some of the photos shot in hardly any light over on our Facebook http://www.4130.co.uk

One final update before Christmas morning arrives (so excited!!). I had a nice, easy going, bed mattress 'making of' commercial to shoot at the beginning of the week. A perfect way to finish off what has been a fantastic year! I've got so much more to put up on here from the year but I have to wait for things to be released before I can tumblr about them. Geek facts about the commercial; shot on the Canon 5DmkII, 50mm, 70-200mm, extension tubes, Miller ProJib and a good dollop of Dedolight's for good measure. The ProJib is a totally amazing piece of kit, allowing you for some fantastic angels, I totally want one of these!! In the mean time if you like shooting on DSLR's then check out http://www.dslr-devices.com for a reasonably priced, British made jib that ain't too bad for the money!! Merry Christmas!!

Heli-cam time! Bringing in the big lads for the all important heli-shot. How much do you reckon a 10 second shot would cost? Mounted in the dome (I forget it's tech name) is the Arri Alexa Plus with zoom lens shooting 120fps

What an amazing location, down on Tynemouth North Pier in the North East of England. Great light, great backdrop, and massive waves that occasionally got the crew a tad wet

This little off roader is called 'The Mule' it can take a shed load of weight and can handle most terrains. Rigged up with a couple of 1.2kw HMI's, the Phantom, steadycam and a bunch of crew it was no problem for this power beast.
