clover's final experience was hearing flowey call them a friend. they had no idea he was trying to use them.
flowey was the last friend on clover's mind.
flowey allows time to run its course and does not reset after clover gives up their soul. maybe in clover's selfless act, he sees a skewed reflection of his own sacrifice for monsterkind.
and perhaps, for a passing instant, the burden of his past choice felt a little lighter. might have even been the first tremor of forgiveness he allows himself to feel in a long, long time.
he thought clover was the one. he'd reset so many times, granted them numerous chances to attempt anew. and there'd already been 5 humans before them yet... he felt a pull towards clover he just couldn't explain, a tug towards something long buried.
it was a forgotten warmth, a connection he'd sworn to suppress. they were a naive n tender-hearted child willing to sacrifice all they are for the benefit of others. isn't that foolish? doesn't that get you nowhere? and, good god, isn't that what he'd tried to do?
he can't understand. wouldn't even try to. a grudging respect grows and somehow, he's come to accept their decision in pacifist. allowing them peace; rest. a fucked up lullaby
clover was his last straw, though. they were supposed to be the answer. but they weren't. they failed. this hardens him further.
forget the honeyed words and phony charm, that act died with them. now, only bitterness remained.
this is why frisk faced nothing but pure animus. no more elaborate games, no manipulative attempts at friendship, just pure lashing out.
detachment, after all, meant less heartache. less heartache meant easier violence.
he would get attached no longer.
he will become god.
