I feel like someone needs to make a video on the phenomenon that is Midokoto because I don't think I have ever seen what is essentially an OC be so regarded and treated as if he's actually in the story

Hey, I need you all- I need everyone to stop for a second and bask in the cover instrumentals of trial two. Just take a minute and just really drown in the ridiculous amount of characterization they jammed into the second trial instrumental for these characters.
Especially with Kazui's Neo-Neon. It's cool and subdued. Calm with something just waiting to bubble up from beneath the surface. The sound of water being disturbed subtly throughout it leading into some simply eerily paced beats that come off as though waiting for something. Just giving that feeling of time passing. Then this light part that leads into a stark silence that can only be really felt in the full cover. Just to end us off with.
The disinterested beat of Vampire. With noises strewn in for the sole entertainment of the one performing until it all roughly breaks. Just to pull itself together again and move forward as though nothing's wrong. Teasing the listener into expecting a climax that never comes. The distorted cacophony of noise that just embodies the idea of not getting what you expected just to be followed by those well whatever tones. All coming together perfectly to give this feeling of dissatisfaction, annoyance, and anxiousness around wanting to ask for more. That just fits Yuno too well.
The covers are just so good honestly. They're all soo good...

The thing about milgram is that at the end of the day no matter what heinous actions got them in this situation all these characters are a victim of a system that has done more harm than it proclaims to do good. The characters are flawed people with selfdestructive tendencies that end(ed) up affecting others and i will nawt be persuaded into ostracizing them because some mysogynistic bunny with horns told me theyre murderers that deserve to be punished and thats independent on whether i approve/condone/excuse their actions or not

I wonder if Kotoko's refusal to talk about herself/her past is because she needs to be seen as competent? Im sure it's also because she can't open up to others but i feel there's more to it than just that. Yuno talks about how much she hates being pitied and seen as naive, so she fights against it by showing how much she likes her life and how in control of it she is- but Kotoko doesn't have any of that. She hates herself and the life she lives, and she constantly feels like she's losing control of herself and the people around her. She can't 'prove' she's competent or stable or sure of herself, because she isn't. She hates abnormality, but she herself has lived a very abnormal life. If she tells people that, they'll surely pity her or think she's just like the people she hates or worry she's not stable enough to carry on her mission, so she doesn't say anything.

whenever you make an analysis or theory post on kotoko you have to remember something for me, okay? you have to remember that though she seems to say many things, seek out the real her, in the space between the truth and the lies- hidden away so well, okay? that today shes playing the girl taking things to a foolish extreme, okay? that her giving rise to a sense of hatred would be a great success, okay? that she just wants to die already so she can finally be at ease, okay? that all she knows is pain but theres nowhere to run, okay?

I've been a bit too drained to work on any of my actual theories or detail catching(there's a yuno draft I keep staring at) so with that said, I may or may not have been listening to the entire Mili discography and couldn't help but assign MORE songs. I've previously assigned Yuno(Camelia), Mahiru(Rubber Human), and Mikoto(Sleep Talk Metropolis) songs. So they don't get any. Yeah.
Haruka: Extension of You
There is me, and there is you Who knew everything, teach me how to sing Teach me how to sing, teach me how to sing
I learned the good and the evil Learned your boundaries, learned your mortality You're out of service, out of service
There are still many things that I want to know Stories left untold Does it feel good to love? To hand out your own? To hand out your own? Does it feel good to hate? To shelter one's self? To shelter one's self?
Note: Vibes.
Fuuta: Painful Death For The Lactose Intolerant
Cleanse up your body, cleanse up your soul
Perfect life for you and I People who's trying to get by Painful death for the lactose intolerant For you there is no lament
Begin the revolution!
Note: Technically is the one that gave me the idea to actually make this list, though I came up with Kazui's WEEKS ago, and Amane's I gave to her basically as soon as it was released- which was a few days ago. Either way, Fuuta fits the allegory of this song for me- the disdain for people who 'can't change' in his view. I think his views of change are... changing now, so this is definitely for before he was injured. Yeah.
Muu: GIVE ME RICE
Honey This is all, this is everything All the things you want All you'll ever need
The entire 'give me' section that I am NOT pasting. It makes more sense listened to.
Note: I'm not entirely sure how to explain this song. While the song is mostly of just wanting things, there's elements of the singer knowing that this isn't what they need. It feels like a song of just not knowing how to end a cycle that is actively hurting you, even if you want to, and ending up perpetuating it as you give up. Maybe my explanation of why doesn't entirely make sense as to why I'd give it to Muu. I think with Muu, she didn't really want to break the cycle in the first place- when she was on top, of course- and that she simply fell into her role when she was no longer in that previous position. Muu is fairly passive, and I feel as though this song is better for the Muu shown in It's Not My Fault.
Shidou: Nine Point Eight -special edit-
Please don't leave me behind, leave me behind So you held me tight And said I will be just fine
Take me to where your soul may live in peace Final destination Touch of your skin sympathetically brushed against The shoulders you used to embrace
Note: I don't really have anything particular to say. I don't think it fits well per se, but I think the softness of the special edit over the original better fits Shidou. There's also a lot of flower imagery, so.
Kazui: From A Place of Love
There's just so much work Too much work to be done Committing to commitments Hiding my indulgence The freedom we sacrifice for love
You're a nice girl I'm just not ready now But then mommy said It ain't family biz Get over it Toughen up Just like the man we expected
I know that I agreed to this myself (Myself, myself) I wish it was their fault
Note: I was so tempted to paste all of the song lyrics. I also hope that all Library of Ruina fans that see this post take sanity damage from seeing THIS song here. I don't think any arguments can be made here. There's so much about getting into a relationship that ends disasterously because of being pressured into it, and then the blame that the singer puts on themself, that just works so perfectly for Kazui's story. The version specifically posted here is the battle version, not the Key Ingredient version, because that version leans more into some of the other elements of what this song was made for, elements that just don't fit. Either way. Kazui song. Don't read the comments.
Amane: Duetting Solo
(Holy land, with Her we stand) The love we teach, violence we preach (Knives in hand, we're innocent lambs)
My hands are red, my heart is black
I cried I screamed I slept I woke up mad
Note: Duetting Solo is a song of revenge, one that just so happens to have a heavy layer of religion on it. I know nothing of the source material, it is just kind of there. But yeah, to me, at least, this song feels very similar to Purge March in tone to me. Amane doesn't completely respect the beliefs she's been born into, even if she uses them to justify herself.
Kotoko: Rosetta
For everyone everywhere everything Will betray your innocent heart All of them
Vile, vile Shield yourself Mind my words Don't let yourself corrupt
Come back to me Rosetta No-one nowhere nothing will take anything anything anything from me
Note: There's a certain... anger to Rosetta that I can't really explain. It's just one of those things you feel, you know? Anyways, this one is a Kotoko and Lucky one. The song is so concerned with Rosetta remaining 'pure' and 'uncorrupted.' It's so distinctly paranoid that she will be hurt in some way. I have more reasoning but I began writing it and quickly realized 'oh! I should save this for my very complicated thoughts on what Kotoko and Lucky's relationship was, WHICH I WANT TO HOLD OFF ON BECAUSE LUCKY IS DEFINITELY BEING ASKED ABOUT.' The not-really summary on that though is that the singer of Rosetta, in my personal analysis, seems to be an overprotective/helicoptor guardian of sorts, paranoid of what the world could do to their child, and so paranoid that they end up being left behind by Rosetta anyways. The last lines of the song to me indicate that the singer saw Rosetta less as human, and more of something the singer 'had' in some way- just like how Kotoko seemed to treat Lucky like something she needed to protect and not much else, regardless of her genuine thoughts on her. Please do not make of that what you will I have a lot of thoughts and it's VERY hard to elaborate what I mean. Just. Rosetta. Kotoko and Lucky song.

Stop posting about Mikoto Kayano! I'm tired of seeing him! My mutuals on tumblr send me MeMes, on Discord it's fucking meme! I was in a server, right? And all of the channels are just Kayano stuff. I showed my programming assignment to my friends and scrolled to the double datatype, I highlighted it and said, "Hey, guys, when the datatype is double!" Haha, tada yume o mite ita nda yo sore o yurusanain darou? I fucking found my tarot cards and I said, "That's just like MeMe!" I boarded a train, I think of John swinging his bat, and I go, "Nande!" Aaaaaaargh!

I think the reason why people miss that Shidou is like Kotoko other than...being a hot man in fandom, is because Shidou's actions are a lot less visibly violent, and a lot more insidious as a result. Which goes to a thought of mine that I think this focus on Kotoko's violent actions and surface-level self-righteousness miss the problem of "Kotoko's mindset and worldview is built on ideals that are fascistic and conservative which harm people, including herself."
Cause Shidou and Kotoko share very similar worldviews. They both believe that people should be useful, they both desire to "save" people, they both pick and choose who they believe should continue living, they both hold onto the past, with Shidou especially romanticizing it.
I'm just saying I want a shift in focus with how people talk about Kotoko's actions, it's not Just her beating up people, it's the worldview that surrounds that violence that makes it bad and it can be expressed in non-violent ways that are Just as dangerous.

Does anyone find this moment of the new minigram kinda strange? Especially because of how ooc Kotoko is here, and how different it is from the usual lighthearted minigram tone.
We're shown that Kotoko is certainly not enthused with Kazui looking at her and trying to figure out what kind of martial arts she does, so much so that she feels actual discomfort at the situation (there's even a whole ass panel dedicated to her reaction).
And then she immediately jumps into calling him a "pervert", even though we all know that Kazui is not that kind of person at all:
Tumblr media
She covers and retreats further into herself, and her first reaction is to call him a "pervert"? She simply could've just told him to stop, but she immediately jumps to "stop looking at me like that", which is a pretty major conclusion to jump to for anyone much less Kazui, who doesn't show any outward hostility towards her or the others.
This minigram is based off of this timeline conversation, and while minigrams aren't considered canon, timelines are. Before, I wasn't sure how to gauge Kotoko's interaction on whether or not she was simply telling him off so he would stop analyzing her, but from the information shown from the minigram, we can now see how uncomfortable she actually was based on her physical reaction:
Tumblr media
Idk, it just seems like a strange reaction coming from her of all people, especially since we haven't seen Kotoko react this way to anyone before. We see her keep her cool the majority of the time, except here where she's ooc from her usual self. I do wonder if this detail/timeline convo implicates some kind of traumatic experience she's had in the past. If that's the case, Kazui's actions ended up reminding her of the memory, and that's why she acted the way she did here.

saw ur crane wives post and i just wanna say i think the garden could also be a shidou song
Tumblr media
Oh, I like these! The Garden was a song that I felt could be assigned to someone, but I was already dead set on Metaphor Shidou- I am considering it now though, and same for Ribs Amane! Ribs is a song I don't think I understand very well yet, but I can see what you mean by it fitting her.

You know what? I'm not hiding this please have all of my crane wives music assignments for the prisoners plus Es(Note: I am not confident on all of these):
Haruka: Empty Page
Cut me a path, and I will follow it, Draw me a line, and I'll avoid it- I'm nothing if not obedient. You have my word.
You'll do it better, show me how. You'll do it better, show me how. Tie me up by my callow belief, Someday I'll make something out of me, Years of imitating mastery, Only made me a better thief.
Yuno: Pretty Little Things
I cut straight to the heart. I don't believe the pretty little things that you say, I've heard a lot of little pretty things. Don't buy me flowers, It pains me to watch pretty little things wilt away.
Maybe you're right, and maybe I have been used up, By another man's hungry hands. And maybe you're right, and maybe I have been ruined, By another man after him- But maybe I'm the one who's right.
Fuuta: High Horse
We get what we deserve, We never really learn.
I keep tallies, I keep score. I'm a petty thing on a high, high horse. You've got your mouth open, I hold my tongue, There's so many things that we can't ignore.
You are never gonna change her mind, so don't try.
Muu: Icarus
They're burning down the orchard to the soil, To the soil, to the grave. Spreading out the ashes of a love, That only gave and gave.
Our hands are pulling everything apart, Fall apart, falling back- Tell yourself there's no more need to lie, We don't have time for that.
Leave our footprints to be lost along the ground, Oh my brother, my brother, my brother, There is nothing left to bring me back down.
Shidou: Metaphor
I cut my teeth on secondhand sentiments, You can't trust a single thing I say. I keep my closet free of skeletons, 'Cause I'm much better at digging graves.
I've gotten good at stretching the truth out of shape, And all these words are sweet and meaningless!
Mahiru: Strangler Fig
Now I'm trapped within your walls and all I want is to be free, For as Winsome as you may be- All you're doing now is losing me
From your pulpit what will you preach? How to live a good long life that's full of suffering.
Oh, I Gave you everything I had, Now I, now I want it back!
Kazui: The Well
All the words I couldn't say to you, Fill up the spaces in my chest, Like spare coins poised on the tip of my tongue, I make a wish and hold my breath.
Oh, the damage I'd have wrought- That old house, those rotting memories, Burned easier than I'd have thought
Amane: Scars(from what I know, this one has only ever been played live! So no studio recording if you look for it)
I’m not the person that I thought I was- I couldn't tell you where the ache came from. Maybe born in a storm beneath an angry sky- Now it’s raining in my head nearly all the time
All the love, all the kindness, all your best laid plans, Couldn't stop me from becoming the way that I am.
Was I born with a hole in my heart? A fatal fault at the start, Tell me it’s inevitable that I’d end up with scars.
Nothing could’ve been done, Is that right?
Mikoto: Queen of Nothing
Stop the car, I wanna get out. I'm craving open air and solid ground. 'Cause I've been watching from the backseat, Watching the world slipping past me.
Isn't this what you wanted? Time sure feels like it's running out- Just finish what you started.
On and on to the next town- Can we slow down?
Kotoko: The Wolf
I am not a builder, I'm much better at blowing things down
I light torches in my sleep, I have gasoline in my veins- I am always burning, burning, burning
Can it be easy for once? Cause I'm no good at being kind to myself, Or anyone. I am a falling axe, I am a sharpened knife, I am a poison asp, I am a risk to your life, My love.
I am a beast at your back, You better run for your life. Your life.
Es: The Crooked, The Cradle
There's blood in the water. The quiet are restless, the silent are still. I'm nobody's daughter.
I won't pretend, My season won't end. But I pray When it's done, when it's through, I'll have something left for you.
Can anyone hear me? Can anyone hear me? The crooked are smiling, they know me the best.

Milgram Trial 3 Cover Predictions Survey
I have a soft spot for Milgram’s Deco*27 covers and how they reveal and reinforce characters’ feelings, so I wanted to gauge which songs are expected to be covered in Trial 3. I definitely have some ideas of my own, which I’d like to expand upon at a later time 😄
[Reblogs are appreciated!]
