In case anyone was curious, here is article 2 from the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide:
Article II
In the present Convention, genocide means any of the following acts committed with
intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group, as
such:
(a) Killing members of the group;
(b) Causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of the group;
(c) Deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to bring about its
physical destruction in whole or in part;
(d) Imposing measures intended to prevent births within the group;
(e) Forcibly transferring children of the group to another group.

The IJC made its ruling on provisional measure today.
To boil it down, what Israel is doing is not a genocide at this stage and a ceasefire has not been called however Israel must take all measure to prevent a genocide and get urgent aide into Gaza.
When I initially heard this, I had so much relief rush through me.
This means that Palestinians are not currently going through a genocide. That is a good thing. We all should be celebrating this.
That's not to say that whats going on isn't terrible. Its just saying that it isnt a genocide. Which is a good thing. Wanting a genocide to be happening is a terrible thing.
What is going on is just a war. War is also terrible, but we can all agree that a genocide is worse than a war.
It is good that the worst option is not happening.
It is also good that urgent aide has been ordered to be sent. It is needed and is good that it has been ordered by the IJC.
Overall I am just happy that Palestinians are not being subject to a genocide and will recieve much needed aide.

After seeing South Africa’s articulate presentation at the IJC in Hague documenting Gaza genocide, and Israel’s Trump-esque make stuff up and throw everything at the wall “defense”, this is obvious: anyone still “Standing with Israel” is either an idiot or a shill. Or both.
You want a world with considerably less “anti-semitic” sentiments?
Be a mensch and persuade your buddies in Israel (at least the 98% of them who support the Gaza “war”) to stop the genocidal blitzkrieg and pull the fuck out, something their parents forgot to do.
Then apologize for war crimes: terrorizing and killing thousands of Palestinians including journalists, and destroying hospitals, libraries, infrastructure, apartment buildings while spinning lies about it.

It's crazy how so many people have changed their tune about the IJC.
I saw so many posts about how the truth was going to come about about Israel's actions during the trial and so on and so forth.
And now the truth has come out and because it's not what people wanted, people are dismissing the IJC and saying they're useless and Yada Yada Yada.
I would first like to say that unless you have relevenr degrees and experiences similar or more relevant than those at the IJC, you are not as qualified as them to say whether or not they denied that a genocide is happening. If they said its not, then its not! I don't go around saying that biologists don't know what they're talking about when it comes to biology as I'm not qualified to do that.
Secondly, I think this just speaks to a larger issue within the pro Palestinian movement and even leftist activism as a whole.
A whole lot of people don't care about saving Palestinian lives, they just care about punishing Israel.
This is in line with leftist activism. Punch Nazis, acab, etc, all focus on punishing the oppressors rather than uplifting the oppressed.
I'm not saying that those phrases on their own are bad. I'm just saying that if you are using them as the main course of your activism rather than an accouterment, then it's a problem.
Yes, punish Nazis but uplifting jews should be the main priority. Yes acab but uplifting those who are affected by police brutality and unfairly targeted by police and the justice system should be the main focus.
Uplifting an oppressed groups also punishes oppressors as a little bonus as well!
Focus on uplifting minorities not punishing their oppressors!
