Australians need to be aware that, although it's easy to get caught up in the horrendous tendencies of the American government, the Australian government is just as bad in its support of Israel.
info and sources below
the Australian foreign minister has expressed open support of Israel and the government's official statement states that they aim for "a two-state solution in which Israel and a future Palestinian state co‑exist, in peace and security, within internationally recognised borders" which is quite frankly a bullshit response to the ongoing genocide.
In response to a question regarding whether Australia will oppose Israel's invasion of Palestine, MP Albanese said that "this parliament... unequivocally condemned the attack on Israel by Hamas... Israel does have a right to defend itself, and we stand by that"
Refuse to be complacent, educate yourself, call your local representatives and prompt them to take a stand. Support groups such as the Australian Palestine Advocacy Network (APAN) , the Australian Friends of Palestine Association and the numerous other Australian advocate groups. Attend protests if you can, be open in your disgust.
Australia openly supports and allows the shipping line ZIM, the oldest and largest shipping company in Israel, to operate in Australia. The company has a noted "long history of supporting war crimes and ethnic cleansing against Palestinians"
this is but the tip of the iceberg, if you will pardon the idiom
I am starting to get really nervous about the outcome for Australia.
The no campaign has spread so much misinformation that we have see a rise in racism towards the First Nations people. They are using fear, with the “if you don’t know, vote no”, HOW ABOUT IF YOU DON’T KNOW DO YOUR OWN RESEARCH.
If the result is a no, which sadly at the moment the likely, what will that say. Australia is one of the only colonised countries that do not have a treaty with their first peoples. The First Nations people of Australia are the oldest living culture on earth and we should celebrate that not shame it.
The no vote maybe mean no actual change in the government, but it is a step back. 80% of First Nations want this, and even those who are saying no, for some part it’s because it’s not enough. This is the bare minimum we can do.
I would like to finish of with a statement going around which I think is important “Not everyone who votes no is a racist but every racist is voting no.”
"If the Israeli assault stopped today, and we decided to hold a funeral every single day for each Palestinian killed in the last eight months, it would take us 100 years to honor them all."
The Palestinian speaker at the UN Security Council highlights the devastating toll of casualties among Palestinians resulting from the Israeli genocide in Gaza.
