MOTHERLOAD from LYNCH SISTERS FILM on Vimeo.
It is often said that the hardest part of any adventure is getting out the door. Planning and packing are tedious and time consuming. But the moment you cross over the threshold from the distractions of the real world to the freedom of the hills, everything seems to just fall into place.
(Said no mother ever.)
Follow professional skiers and mothers Izzy Lynch and Tessa Treadway as they carry the load of loss, life changing events, and the love of their children into the mountains where they find the moments of peace, growth and healing that help them carry on.

An tOileán Tiar / The Western Island - The history and culture of the Blasket Islands. from Yoho Media on Vimeo.
A film for the Blasket Island Centre in Kerry, South West Ireland, exploring the the history and culture of the Blasket Islands.
The Blaskets are a group of seven, small islands off the South West corner of Ireland. Exposed to the full force of the Atlantic Ocean, the islands have a remarkable history, having supported a population of around 150 people since the 16th century. The islanders emerged from relative obscurity in the middle of the twentieth century when linguists, ethnographers, writers and photographers began to visit, seeing the islands as a last outpost of Ireland’s language and culture, untainted by English rule or the Catholic Church; the islands had no priest, doctor or shop. The islanders responded by putting pen to paper; building on centuries of oral story telling they produced over 40 new books, a mixture of autobiography and island tales, just as their culture and community was starting to implode. In 1953 the islands were abandoned.
We were commissioned by Ireland’s Office of Public Works to make a documentary film telling this extraordinary story. Shot over four seasons, using specialist 4k equipment and a drone, the film captures the full glory of a year on the edge of the Atlantic. It is shown in a purpose-built cinema at the Blasket Island Visitors Centre, which is situated on the mainland, overlooking the islands.

Here in this project we didn't plan to show an exact image of objects. The main idea is the search and transmission of the harmony of the surrounding world. We believed that nature of Kamchatka is perfect and any copying of it is meaningless.

Letter to a Cycad from Natural History Museum Denmark on Vimeo.
'Letter to a Cycad' is a visual homage to the historic Palmhouse in Copenhagen, and a reflection on the evolution of plants and our human impact on the planet. Using a fictional voice of the late botanist Frederik Liebmann (1813-1856) who found and described the cycad species Dioon edule, the oldest specimen in the Palmhouse, the film explores life histories and the current biodiversity crisis.

Sounds of the South - Official Trailer [4K] from HTN Films on Vimeo.
(2021, 60 min, dir. Hubert Neufeld)
Dutch musician Ruben Hein’s love for nature and wildlife has always been central to his creativity. But when he decided to visit Antarctica and the sub-Antarctic, some of the wildest regions on the planet, he had no way to know how deeply the experience would impact him.
From February to March of 2020, Hein embarked on a 22-night voyage to the Falkland Islands, South Georgia, and the Antarctic Peninsula. Known for their colossal seabird colonies and abundant marine life, monstrous glaciers and ruggedly beautiful coastlines, these still-untouched areas allow visitors to see a side of the planet few of us are ever lucky enough to experience.
As creatures who spend much of our lives plugged into a near-ceaseless succession of laptop screens and smartphone apps, the stresses of society are all around us and the sounds of civilization almost always in our ears. What does this do to us and at what cost? How often do we really get the chance to break away, to harken to sounds more natural than those that surround us every day?
Join Hein as he attempts to do just that, searching for inspiration for his next album as he ventures among some of the far south’s most surreal landscapes and iconic creatures. Overlaid with his own original music, this documentary seeks to capture some of the magic of his journey into this wondrous other world, in whose presence the most immediate response is awe.

M166 - The Changing Currents Of The North Atlantic from Vincent Urban on Vimeo.
In late 2020, I had the chance to accompany a team of oceanographers from the University Of Hamburg on the FS Meteor, one of Germany’s main research vessels, on a journey to the North Atlantic.
This 17-minute documentary explores the connection between ocean currents and our planets climate, shows how life feels like on a 4-week journey at sea as the scientist doing the hard work of measuring the effects of climate change.
Specifically, this cruise collected data about the overflows, the exchange of cold salty water on the sea floors, between the Artic and the Atlantic Ocean. This is part of the circulation system that affects the climate in Northern Europe.
This was a very special experience to me, learning about such a complex and interesting topic, interacting with the crew and living with the scientists on a ship for such a long time, finding friends and great moments.
Thank you so much to everyone who helped me on this long journey, from start to finish.
