a teensy tiny blonde girl
blush on her cheeks
gloss on her lips
wearing a gorgeous,
white dress
tulle and lace
blonde hair curled
surrounded by flowers.
i’ve never seen a casket this small,
never mourned a child this young,
never imagined that
i would be waiting in line
to see a 14 year old’s body
looking inhumane
like wax or clay
from the feeble attempts to make her snapped neck look how it used to.
i hug her mother, sobbing,
“i dont know why” she whispers.
i shake her father’s hand
he says nothing,
but his face tells me everything.
i can’t remember the last time I
