All right, let’s clear some things up regarding this scene:
^^^ So people are saying that it looks like Rey destroys the helmet stand whilst battling Kylo, or she’s trying to destroy it and Kylo is trying to stop her. (and by the way I’m not trying to call anyone out or say you’re wrong, more than likely I’M wrong about this but we’ll just have to see come movie time.)
Here’s the thing: the stand is already being busted up by Kylo’s saber BEFORE Rey’s. If Rey was trying to get it first before Kylo it would be HER saber close to it before his, but that’s not the case. His saber has already flown through it and is being recoiled back while hers is just starting to be flung in that direction.
^^^ Here you can see hers going through whilst Kylo’s is being recoiled back.
^^^ This is just showing that if they WERE fighting Rey would’ve turned towards Kylo to see his reaction rather than to watch the whole thing crumble. If they were doing this together it makes sense that they would both be watching it happen.
^^^ Just a little extra to show that Kylo is reaching up to take off his helmet. If they WERE fighting it would make more sense he would keep his helmet on for protection etc, but he’s taking it off, most likely for the audience/Rey to see his reaction.
^^^ The fade out to the next scene makes it a bit harder to see but you can still see Rey is looking at the mess and not at Kylo, if she was truly wanting to fight him she wouldn’t be taking her attention away from him. You can see Kylo is about to take his helmet off, and I tried to look at this clip until the very end of it but no you can’t see him take it off.

The very air between them bent and wavered as Snoke harnessed the Force and made it his weapon. Rey thrashed in pain, screaming and seeking an escape that didn’t exist. Kylo could feel Rey’s pain and panic, a bright roar in the Force that overwhelmed all else—even the dark presence of Snoke.
