Overall thoughts on the finale? :)

Well it rounded up the series as a whole quite well in the way that I was sort of ambivalent on it. It was no Hell Bent thank god but it wasn’t a Journey’s End either. Doctor Who seems to have a bit of a problem with finales imo..the last finale that I really remember enjoying was A Good Man Goes to War and even that was technically a mid-season finale. This finale just…was. It was better than the S10 finale and better than any of Capaldi’s in fact. It was satisfying in every way but it still felt like it was missing something. 

The weakest part of this season unfortunately seems to be Chris Chibnall. The acting is brilliant (I need my Jodie Whittaker solo ep!) the special effects and music have really stepped up. The writing however is about average. The thing with Moffat, even as I hated him, was that about once or twice a season he would churn out a genuinely good script (eg. Listen, Heaven Sent, Extremis). There have been no stand out eps for me this season, apart from Rosa, which was written with very little input from Chibnall. The idea to not have a series arc I think is the thing that really killed this series and the finale in fact, because we ended up with a semi-series arc anyway with Grace and Tim Shaw but it wasn’t developed enough to truly be called a series arc. 

Another thing that ticked me off is that there was no reference to the Doctor as a Time Lord (or Time Lady now I suppose). When Tim Shaw was talking about being a god, or the Ux were talking about bending space and time I thought that surely there would be one of those moments. A moment when we see the Doctor for who they truly are, a sad old alien who has seen more than we can ever imagine. We caught a glimpse of it in the last ep…but I want to see more of it (but if the Daleks are coming back on New Year’s we hopefully will!)

I’m not disappointed…just not surprised. Which isn’t how I should feel after a Doctor Who finale.

What was that talking frog about?¿ I'm so annoyed. The rest of the episode was decent :(

Right? I thought the plot jumped around a bit but apart from that it was actually quite impactful. The frog was just shoehorned in there and completely ruined the emotional flow of the episode
