This is written for the song “Hope” by Shinedown from @drarrymicrofic
Word count: 140
Drarry microfic: four-letter word
“What’s a four letter word for ‘a feeling of expectation and desire for a particular thing to happen’?” Harry’s voice came from the bed.
Draco turned around on his chair, looking at his husband over the rim of his glasses. “Hope.”
Harry hummed and counted the letters on his fingers. He frowned. “Hope’s not a four-letter word, though?”
Sighing deeply, Draco shook his head. He stood from his place at his desk and walked over to the bed, taking the crossword from Harry’s hands and filling in the word himself. He silently handed it back to Harry.
“Oh,” was the only thing Harry said, a sheepish smile lifting the corners of his mouth. “I knew that.”
“Hm.” Draco walked back to his desk and placed his glasses on it. He stretched his arms above his head. “Sure you did, love.”
Why did you show him the washing machine in the first place Harry ?

The last few days I really thought a lot about how Draco would cope with not being able to use magic.
Maybe some allegations against him or a bet that he wouldn’t survive a month without magic and money? It doesn’t really matter I love the thought of how Harry tries to help him out and explain muggle technology while Draco just lacks the ability of trying to do anything without magic.
Little Spoon: Feeling of being held and protected. Comforting pressure, like a weighted blanket. Warm. Down side: Slightly claustrophobic. Limbs lose circulation. Possibility of being crushed. Risk of overheating. Difficult to change positions without disrupting your partner. Good for the partner who sleeps like a fucking log and is always too cold.
Big Spoon: Satisfaction of keeping your partner safe and covered. Also warm. Easier to sneak away and piss. Loose, whimsical clinging options. Down side: Vulnerable to outside threats. Risk of becoming too cold. Little to no soothing surface pressure. Good for the partner who is protective and proactive.
Middle positions: Covered on all sides. Maximum skin contact, maximum surface pressure. Warm, protected, cherished position. Down side: Restricted range of movement. Possibility of overheating. Morning breath from at least one partner.
Face-to-face: Intimate. Offers the opportunity to stare lovingly at your partner while their eyes are closed, to admire and observe and to think of the past and future. Excellent for late night conversation. Down side: 100% certainty of direct morning breath blast. Relatively distant, physically. Weird blanket drape allows for draft.
Back-to-back: Primary choice for defensive position. Eyes on both sides. Maximum blanket tension. No morning breath. Easy to sneak off and back without being disruptive. Booty buddies. Down side: Feels a lil like you're a married couple going through hard times in a hallmark movie. The least cuddly of cuddles.
Stacked, Top: Freedom of movement. Warm. Heartbeat and breathing both detectable. Good for a spur of the moment nap on a shared surface. Perfect for a small partner on the go. Down side: Somewhat cold. Feels a little one-sided. Might roll off.
Stacked, Bottom: The most surface pressure possible. The most body heat possible. Heartbeat and breathing detectable. Secure position, greatest validation of affection. Down side: Zero freedom of movement. Worst for circulation. Worst for pee and water breaks. Highest risk of being drooled on.
Stacked, Middle: Expert level. Do not attempt. Worst of both top and bottom positions with the benefits of neither. Zero ventilation, no range of motion. This ride only stops for emergencies, and crying is not an emergency. Avoid.
What can I say about Running on Air that hasn’t been said already? Running on Air was one of the first fics I read when I started seriously reading fanfiction about a year ago, and it profoundly shaped the way I think about fanfiction, let alone Harry/Draco. It’s remarkable on so many levels—incredible worldbuilding, really nuanced character work, and some of the most exquisite writing I’ve ever read. It goes so far above and beyond the source material and resonated so deeply with me that I’ve been chasing eleventy7’s Harry/Draco ever since. I honestly think about Running on Air at least once a week, and can only hope I did this beautiful story justice!
Cover design, layout, and binding by me. Bound in custom bookcloth and endpapers using a variation on a long stitch binding that’s inspired by the wonderful marujitobooks over on Instagram. More pics below the cut!
Hi!! Welcome to Tumblr!! I love RoA and I need to ask: how was your inspiration or what had sparked the plot idea into your mind? The fic had developed just like you wanted, or did some things got cut off, rewritten etc.? I hope you had a good day!! 😚😚
Hello :)
Running on Air had two inspirations, I guess. The first one began with an impromptu road trip I took one day along Great Ocean Road. I found some of the pics I took:
Around the same time, I was reading a report, The Geographies of Missing People, which sounds like an incredibly boring muse (I’m sorry!) but I am deeply interested in that stuff. The report looked at people who had decided to leave their life behind (either temporarily or permanently) and basically how they felt about the entire process. The personal stories in the above report were so poignant and had so much emotion, it immediately made me want to write about them.
Looking at quotes from the report, you can definitely see where I got my inspiration from:
And:
And:
So you can see where the inspiration for setting and description intersected with the plot idea. And off I went! I wrote it (about 2 months) and edited it (3 months). Editing was mostly fussing over details and doing a metric ton of research about England (never been there, didn’t want Brits to be like ‘wow this is laughable’). Nothing was really rewritten or removed - there were no ‘outtakes’. It was a pretty straightforward process :)
