Astarion x OC!
Act 1; Chapter 1:
Eyes Open.
Yeonie wakes, eyes blinking as she sits up from the sandy beach. She looks around, reorienting herself.
Get to the helm—
I am no thrall.
Get to the helm—
You keep dangerous company.
Get to the helm—
Connect the transponder—
Get to the helm—
Ishtik—
Get to the helm.
She looks around for her new companions but to no avail. Yeondil moves to stand but her ankle is tender and her head throbs.
The tadpole.
Yeonie shivers as she tries not to think about that infernal thing wriggling around in her brain.
She stumbles across Shadowheart and a wizard named Gale that she pulled from a portal-gone bad.
She’s thankful the two survived the nautiloid.
Shadowheart dismisses herself to set up their camp once they free Lae’zel from her Tiefling cage.
There was some bad blood there that Yeonie would need to dispel later.
Yeondil had convinced the Tieflings to flee from the ‘monster’ they had captured.
She felt wary that Lae’zel didn’t even seem to be bothered by the fact Yeonie had called her a monster.
She seems to have let her thoughts wander.
We’re all monsters, at some point in time.
Yeonie nearly jumps out of her skin before glancing at Lae’zel in surprise. The githyanki returns her expression.
“T’ch,” she speaks aloud.
—it seems we can converse within our minds. I didn’t believe this to be true during all my teachings. We best be extra guarded.
Lae’zel shifts uncomfortably, as if she had seen Yeonie naked just then.
Agreed. The Druid nods.
Lae’zel gives a curt nod in return.
As the group carries on, they come across him.
His eyes. His honeyed words.
She doesn’t trust him.
However, he is also infected. So despite them tussling on the ground, he joined them.
His arm had come down onto the ground beneath her to support her neck and shoulders, while the other held the knife to her throat.
If he had wanted to kill her, why not let her skull crush against the unforgiving ground?
Talk about mixed signals.
Eventually, the group comes upon a fight in process- Yeonie jumps to aid. The others follow without complaint.
A Tiefling had been downed. Another unfortunate death befalls Yeonie’s presence. She quickly grabs her bow from behind her back.
An arrow whizzes past her ear and in return, she hears someone shout “ignis!” and decimate the goblin with their sights set on her.
She frowns, arrow prepped at the ready.
“I’ve got your back.” She hears Astarion in her ear suddenly.
She wrinkles her brow but hears another shout.
For the Absolute!
The goblin’s cry confuses her, but she’s able to discern that fire may not be able to harm the mage.
Her arrow is coated with a toxin that she picked off a deceased goblin and she finally lets it fly.
“Excellent.”
She smirks at Astarion’s approval.
Gale sends the final blow of ice towards the Worg. The human warlock that had gallantly joined their fight sends along an eldritch blast that kills the last of the goblin horde.
While he’s helping the injured soldiers to the gate, Yeondil shouts to her companions.
“Inside, hurry!”
Astarion is quick to follow, Lae’zel and Gale close behind him.
The red Tiefling that was above the gate is yelling at one of the soldiers as they make their way into the Grove.
Yeondil tingles and knows she will thrive in the Grove. She’s a Druid after all, and has a deep respect for all the life that is there.
She of course, diffuses the argument before her.
“We just ended a fight and now we’re about to start another one? Stop and think.”
The human soldier glowers at her and stalks off with the other soldiers in tow.
“Enough waiting around, let’s go hurt someone~” Astarion giggles.
“Shut it. You had your fun.” Yeondil rolls her eyes at the elf, he glances back with a wink before he sighs.
“Alright, I suppose.” He tugs. “You’re absolutely no fun.” He teases.
Zevlor, the red Tiefling, thanks her profusely for her help with the goblins. Yeondil has excellent perception, and even though the tiefling’s skin is red, she notices a slight tinge of pink dusting his prominent cheekbones.
She smiles at him and agrees to help the Tieflings escape the grove by taking out the goblin leaders.
Astarion of course, is not amused.
“Really? We’re messengers now?” He huffs, hands waving dramatically.
Yeonie let’s out a deeper sigh. “Astarion.” She says simply before turning back to her conversation with Zevlor.
“I’ll speak with Kahga, maybe I can reason with her. Just to buy everyone more time.” She shrugs.
Zevlor’s eyes narrow.
“Do what you must. There seems to be no reasoning with her. I would suggest to steer clear of her, for now. Halsin on the other hand, he’s the arch Druid who was captured by the goblins. He is our best chance.”
Yeondil freezes, blinking at Zevlor in confusion.
“Halsin?”
Zevlor’s expression shifts to confusion.
“You know him?” He questions.
Yeondil shakes her head.
“What’s the matter, my dear?” Astarion drawls. Almost in concern.
Yeonie rolls her eyes at Astarion’s question.
“We have a history. I think he can help us with our little problem. But I will be speaking to his substitute first. She doesn’t sound like the ideal person for the role of Arch Druid if she’s this unwelcoming.”
Zevlor shifts.
“Please do what you can. We are only trying to reach Baldur’s Gate.”
“I have a feeling we are right there with you.” Yeondil says before turning to her companions.
“Let’s rest for the night, and speak with Kahga in the morning. I’d like to get a general consensus.”
Gale nods.
Lae’zel and Astarion moan and groan about Yeondil’s decision.
“I’ll meet you at camp, I must seek out the Tiefling who has seen my kin.” Lae’zel near growls as she sets off.
Yeondil looks around at the two left with her.
Astarion would not be a good suggestion to send with her blood-driven companion.
Gale would be a bit of a push-over.
She sighs. “Alright, I’ll go with her to make sure she doesn’t start any trouble. You two head back to camp and catch Shadowheart up to speed.”
“Happy to.” Gale smiles warmly as he turns.
Astarion groans. “But I want to see if she hurts someone.”
Yeondil pivots again. Maybe it’s not a good idea to let Astarion out of her sight. She seems to be the only one that can keep him in line.
Why does he listen to her?
“That’s why I’m going with, to make sure that she doesn’t do just that. C’mon. I don’t trust you not to cause ruckus back at camp.” She muses as she grabs his sleeve and drags him after her.
“My dear, that is fine linen-“ he persists, but allows her to do as she wills. She lets go eventually.
With Gale out of earshot, she says:
“You’ll do well to remember one thing, Astarion. I don’t typically take charity cases, but I will do whatever it takes to be rid of this tadpole.” She starts. “And these people need our help. So if you’re with me, you’re with me. Got it?”
“You’re only saying that because that old man likes you.” Astarion huffs as they near a group of Tiefling children.
“I’m hardly unlikeable, Astarion. You wouldn’t be following a merciful Druid if you didn’t like me.” Yeonie finds herself winking at him with a smile.
She earns a small chuckle in response as he falls into step behind her.
As they come upon the Tieflings training with the young warlock human, Yeonie smiles and crosses her arms as she watches from afar.
“May I have a word?” She pipes in once the man is free.
They find that Wyll is another infected of the awful parasite. He agrees to aid them in their journey to the goblin camp as long as they help him hunt a devil.
Yeonie and Astarion both look at each other, grinning. Neither of them could say no.
The three of them happen upon Lae’zel who is terrifying a Tiefling. As to be expected.
“Lae’zel, enough of this.” Yeondil narrows her eyes, stepping forward.
“Tck, I was just teaching this one the formalities of gith culture.” She sneers. “You may learn a thing or two.”
The Tiefling looks terrified.
“And? Did you get the information you needed?” Yeonie asks as she helps the Tiefling off the ground gingerly. “They just lost one of their own.” She mumbles.
“Yes. My kin are near. We must make haste to the crèche. Our purification awaits.” Lae’zel says confidently.
“The goblin camp will be on our way, then. I have a backup solution that needs saving.” Yeondil says with a smile.
The Tiefling runs off, but not before bowing to Yeondil generously.
Astarion clicks his tongue.
“I was hoping for a disembowlement. I must say, that was incredibly disappointing.”
“Cool your blood.” Lae’zel steps in before Yeondil has a chance to speak. “I’ll indulge you soon enough.”
Astarion is still pouting when Wyll steps up next to Yeondil.
“Let’s channel this energy for the goblins, shall we? No innocents.” Wyll says directly to Astarion and Lae’zel.
Before Lae’zel can speak, Yeonie steps in.
“Agreed. We need more allies than enemies. There’s strength in numbers. You know it’s true.” Yeondil says.
Lae’zel and Astarion don’t answer, but a nod from each of them is enough.
