I can never forget how i was treated from 4-17. that's why if I see a kid getting yelled at when they did nothing wrong, I tell them they're being treated unfairly and did nothing wrong. they have to know that. in my last year of high school, I had more confidence and made a point to do this every time I saw one of the new year 7s getting mistreated. this happened a disgusting amount in the special educational needs corridor. if I saw what had really happened, I would butt in and tell whoever was yelling at them what happened. if it was for something bullshit, like *gasp* asking for a teacher to deal with people bullying them for wearing a pride pin, I would wait until that teacher was gone and tell the kid that that was bullshit and I'll sort the bastards out myself if I have to. and I was in the oldest year group in the school, so they listened because it can't be blamed on lack of experience, which is something year 7s had to hear all the time. I'm older now and I don't see young kids anywhere near as much, but I still won't let any kid get treated the way I was.

you cant ever let yourself forget what it felt like to be 15. how adults treated you. being treated without a shred of respect because people think youre too young to have thoughts and feelings of your own. the lack of autonomy. you cant ever forget that because if you do you might become the kind of adult who treats kids like theyre not people
