RecSpot App Connects People with Movie and TV Passions
Boasting of being founded by serial entrepreneurs and pop-culture obsessives who have led or built for leading brands, #RecSpot promises to make sharing and receiving genuine recommendations easy, convenient and fun. And it is.
“No bots, no trolls — only verified friends and their passionate picks,” expresses a new social media app that aims to do what others can’t – recommend a good movie that you’ll actually appreciate (among other things). Launched this week and available on iOS and Android App stores, RecSpot is a place to exchange opinions, discover new TV shows and movies and even watch them right then and there…

‘Addams Family 2’ is Painfully Unfunny it’s Scary
Directors Greg Tiernan and Conrad Vernon don’t get everything wrong, (having the family ride barrels down Niagara Falls is a fun touch) but overall it’s just too chaotic to enjoy. Instead of a solid storyline, they settled for a mediocre one.
I really enjoyed 2019’s animated version of The Addams Family. The MGM film found a way to revisit this iconic family that remained faithful to the old TV series and original comics by Charles Addams. Although not perfect, it had a nice balance of humor and sweet moments while giving this family a contemporary setting without over-doing it. I was thrilled to learn that a sequel was in the works…

'Le Brea's' Plot Must Have Fallen in that Pit Too
While the hour of #La Brea plays out with a few exciting scenes, there’s no real tension. You know that the people in jeopardy are going to be okay. It’s actually quite boring. A reboot of The "Land of the Lost" would be more exciting.
Without having watched an episode of the new NBC show, some have described La Brea as TV’s next Lost. That’s being kind. Lost was unusual and mysterious when it first premiered in 2004. There was nothing like it. But it was huge and became the talk at the watercooler every week. Since that time, every network has tried to come up with their own “Lost” but it has proven to be a difficult…

'The Big Leap' is a Clever Surprise
‘The Big Leap’ is a Clever Surprise
Ever notice that the trailers for FOX’s new comedy/drama The Big Leap resemble the same storyline as the animated film Sing? In the cartoon, a group of unhappy characters try out for a singing talent show despite their lack of experience and in some cases, the support of their family and friends. In The Big Leap, the storyline is very similar substituting dancing for singing. The Big Leap is…

'Ordinary Joe' is a Nice Guy, but That’s About it
‘Ordinary Joe’ is a Nice Guy, but That’s About it
Clearly, NBC is banking on it’s new high-concept drama, Ordinary Joe, to be the network’s next This is Us success story. Like This is Us, Joe has a unique storytelling device but I’m not sure that it is on par with the former show. The pilot episode opens with narration by Joe Kimbreau (James Wolk) who is late for his college graduation and decides to stand back rather than try to slip in…

Tammy Faye Bakker is Humanized in New Film
Tammy Faye Bakker is Humanized in New Film
I had never heard of Jim and Tammy Bakker until the now infamous PTL scandal was revealed in the late 1980’s. Oh, I had heard of the Praise the Lord TV show, but had never seen it as it wasn’t shown in my area. Not that I would have watched it anyway, it wouldn’t have been my thing. My perception of the couple came from the news reports of the day. The skits that portrayed the couple during late…

ABBA Comes Back 40 Years Later
ABBA Comes Back 40 Years Later
Rumors that the Swedish rock group ABBA would be reuniting have been swirling since the group broke up after their last album, The Visitors was released in 1981. The quartet, Benny Andersson, Björn Ulvaeus, Agnetha Fältskog and Anni-Frid Lyngstad have made the occasional appearance together briefly every now and then, but nothing more. And in a 2013 interview with The New York Times Fältskog…

‘ANW’ Makes History with Youngest Finalist Yet
‘ANW’ Makes History with Youngest Finalist Yet
Based on the Japanese series called Sasuke, American Ninja Warrior has been appearing on American TV screen on channel G4 since 2009. NBC picked up the show during its fourth season in 2013. Since that time, only two contestants, Isaac Caldiero (season 7) and Drew Dreschsel (season 11) have completed all four stages of the course making them the official winners. All of the other seasons featured…

Peacock’s ‘Frogger’ is No ‘Wipeout’
Peacock’s ‘Frogger’ is No ‘Wipeout’
Our world is a difficult place to live in these days. That might explain the resurgence of TV game shows in recent years. If a network is lucky, they’ll have access to a long-forgotten but fondly-remembered franchise like To Tell the Truth or Name That Tune. If not, then they can try their luck with a whole new concept show like The Hustler or Hollywood Game Night, but creating a hit out of an…

‘The Alpinist’ Raises Questions About Following One’s Dreams
‘The Alpinist’ Raises Questions About Following One’s Dreams
Mountain climbing is a dangerous sport, but one that even the meekest human can understand the draw. Marc-André Leclerc once said, “One of the coolest feelings a human can experience is to feel so small in a world that’s so big.” For some of us, all we need is to view the world from a skyscraper window and we’re good. Others will travel with groups and climb to the tops of mountains just to say…

‘DWTS’ Reveals Cast for 30th Season
‘DWTS’ Reveals Cast for 30th Season
Almost since its first debuted in 2005, ABC’s Dancing with the Stars has relied, at least partly, on stunt-casting by bringing on controversial celebrities unto the dance floor. Sometimes they were involved in recent scandal. Other times they were people known for big egos or political views. Some times they were just elderly and people tuned in to see if they still had the moves. Oftentimes they…

Favorite TV Shows Based on the Classroom
Favorite TV Shows Based on the Classroom
With few exception, most of us would have rather had teachers like Mr. Moore (Head of the Class) or attended classes with Zack Morris (Saved by the Bell) then the ones they got stuck with in real life. TV presented these and so many others as the ideal. As families are all heading back to school, here is a list of some favorite American series based on the classroom. We left out shows where the…

New 'Cinderella' Pales in Comparison
New ‘Cinderella’ Pales in Comparison
It is pretty brave of Kay Cannon and Amazon Studios to present a new Cinderella movie since the story has been done to death. Cannon’s version is pleasant enough. It features a good cast, great costumes and some nice toe-tapping tunes, but in the end, it resembles a live TV musical production more than it does a big, Hollywood motion picture. It’s earnest, I’ll give it that, but it has no teeth.…

Mike Richards Completely Done with ‘Jeopardy!’
Mike Richards Completely Done with ‘Jeopardy!’
It appears that the syndicated TV game show Jeopardy! continues to be in … jeopardy. According to Variety, Mike Richards, the executive producer of the show, has been fired. Although I doubt few people will be shocked by this news, it is still a fairly swift decision after Richards was fired as the show’s new host a little over a week ago. At that time, Richards recorded a week’s worth of…

Dr. Phil is Now Making ‘House Calls’
Dr. Phil is Now Making ‘House Calls’
While a dream come true for some families, it can be a perceived nightmare for others. Dr. Phil McGraw is now making house calls courtesy of CBS. House Calls with Dr. Phil, the one-hour primetime series which debuted earlier this week, takes what you know and love about the good doctor and places him in a home setting or an extended time. “I am so excited because unlike anything I’ve ever done…

Mike Richards One and Done as ‘Jeopardy!’ Host
One day in and Jeopardy! is already looking for a another hosts. Mike Richards recorded one episode for the 38th season yesterday and then immediately stepped down this morning reports Variety. But is anyone really surprised? After a full year of celebrity substitute hosts for America’s #1 game show including the likes of Katie Couric, George Stephanopoulos and super-champ Ken Jennings, the…
