so much of what people call “sexual orientation” these days is just virtue signalling and has nothing to do with how sexuality actually works

“i’m attracted to everyone except for cis men” girl you’re either attracted to men (cis and trans) or you’re not and guess what? it’s okay to be attracted to men! attraction isn’t something you control and it’s not something you have to act on. you can be attracted to men and still be a feminist/queer enough or whatever you’re worried about.

“i don’t care about gender or body, i’m only attracted to personality” is just an esoteric way of saying “i’m bisexual but not like one of those dirty slutty bisexuals, please respect me”. acting like you don’t see gender in a society where people are gendered since before we’re born and where gendered discrimination is an everyday thing and acting like sexuality has nothing to do with appearance is naive and just straight up not how things work

“i’m attracted to trans/nb people” of course you are, everyone is, every sexual orientation is trans/nb inclusive or you’re transphobic

i don’t understand this sudden shift from sexual orientation being you sexuality to sexual orientation being a reflection of your values and a proof of how woke you are…..sexuality is sexuality and that’s fine. i thought the whole point of the LGBT movement was to show that your sexual orientation doesn’t make you an inherently bad person but now we’ve somehow circled back to a mentality where your sexuality has to be woke™ and show everyone that you’re a good person which is really just the “gay = sinful” mentality but reversed
